The Civil Servant's Job is to Raise The Furries!-Chapter 76: Misdiagnosis
The interior of the Desert Rescue Station Headquarters was also quite basic; the white paint on the walls had started to peel off. In the hall, there was a simple wooden counter and two rows of metal seats, with photos and notices about various desert animals attached to them. The setting was reminiscent of a village health clinic.
Three employees at the rescue station were chatting together when they saw Xu Ying bursting in while carrying a fridge. They all widened their eyes in surprise; they had just been discussing Xu Ying online, and now the main subject had appeared right before them.
"Hello, I’m Xu Ying from Station 032," Xu Ying presented her credentials. "I need to arrange blood tests for these seven Snow Cleaning Weasels; could you tell me which examination room I should go to?"
A woman in a white coat immediately responded from among the three in the hall, "This way, I’ll take you."
Xu Ying followed the woman into a short corridor flanked by consultation rooms, a surgery room, and an observation room.
The woman led Xu Ying into the comprehensive consultation room, and the other two rescue workers also joined them to assist with the blood tests. The three workers operated very professionally, without any unnecessary chatter.
The blood tests for the seven Snow Cleaning Weasels were quickly completed, and they were hooked up to IV drips to start receiving cold physiological saline to correct dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and for cooling.
It took the four of them less than half an hour to settle the seven little creatures. Xu Ying found that out of the more than seventy desert rescue stations, most of the people there were normal; it was just that a few with more clever minds liked to stick together.
The seven weasels lying on the small beds with IV drips were already in much better condition than when they were in the desert. Their breathing had returned to normal, and they visibly seemed more lively.
Xu Ying breathed a sigh of relief; now all that remained was to wait for the blood test results to see if there were any other complications. She gratefully thanked the three rescue workers who helped her out, "Thank you for your assistance."
"No need to thank us; this is all part of our job."
The woman in the white coat took off her mask; she looked to be in her forties, wore silver-rimmed glasses, had almond-shaped eyes, curved eyebrows, and a composed demeanor.
Xu Ying noticed the name "Fu Qiuhua" written on the badge on her chest.
The other two workers were a pair of young man and woman who appeared to be just two or three years older than Xu Ying. Their demeanor seemed somewhat like they were still in school, with badges on their chests as well; the young man’s name was Qi Xingchen, and the young woman’s name was Zhuo Yi.
Qi Xingchen finally couldn’t help but ask Xu Ying, "Can you really understand what small animals say? That’s amazing!"
Zhuo Yi blinked her twinkling eyes, "Can you teach me how? I want to learn too."
"It might not be possible to teach you how to communicate freely with small animals, but I’m summarizing the patterns of the sounds they make."
Xu Ying pondered seriously, "Once I have figured it out, I can share the experience with you at least it can help you determine their mood state."
Zhuo Yi’s eyes brightened with a smile as she heard Xu Ying was willing to teach, "Wow, you’re awesome!"
The older Fu Qiuhua said nothing, but she smiled kindly as she watched Xu Ying patiently explaining.
They had barely exchanged a few casual sentences when a piercing, raspy animal cry suddenly came from the next room, startling Xu Ying and the others. They quickly made their way to the corridor.
The surgery room next door currently had its red light on, indicating that a severely injured small animal was undergoing surgery.
Xu Ying listened carefully to the sounds coming from the surgery room.
[Don’t cut my leg!! My leg is fine!]
[Help, help, help, help, help!]
Zhuo Yi was so frightened by the cries that she got goosebumps and hugged her arms, "Oh my, I didn’t know lynxes were so fierce—scary!"
"Lynxes are known as mountain cats in my hometown; I heard they can even eat people," remarked Qi Xingchen.
Xu Ying understood the conversation between the two and realized that the surgery room contained a lynx (shē) (lì), a feline animal. No wonder she could comprehend its cries.
The lynx kept crying for help, saying that its leg was fine. Could there be some misunderstanding?
At this moment, the door of the surgery room opened, and it was Kuang Ming, the Deputy Director of the Desert Rescue Station Headquarters, who stepped out. He had intended to call for help but saw the hallway crowded with people and immediately waved Xu Ying and the others in.
"Quick, hurry over and help hold this fellow down; it’s too fierce and not cooperating at all! Several anesthetic shots have been wasted."
"If we don’t hurry with the amputation, the spreading bacterial infection in its leg will lead to life-threatening situations!"
Xu Ying was already concerned that the lynx might have a condition. Hearing this, she quickly entered the disinfection area, disinfected herself, put on appropriate clothing and equipment, and went into the surgery room.
Inside the surgery room, a robust lynx was secured to the operating bed, its limbs bound with straps. However, its body struggled violently, and every brown fur stood on end.
Liu Wenxuan in a white coat tried to hold down its body to administer anesthesia, but the lynx’s strength far exceeded her expectations.
The lynx, in furious roar, suddenly kicked back its hind legs, causing the surgery bed to creak as if it was about to be overturned, scaring everyone away from it.
The scene seemed extremely urgent, as if the lynx would escape its restraints and lash out at any moment, truly terrifying!
But after understanding the lynx’s roars, Xu Ying felt that the creature on the bed wasn’t a temperamental predator; instead, it was a desperate lynx trying to protect its legs.
The lynx on the operating bed struggled violently, preventing Liu Wenxuan from getting close. The distinctive tufts of black hair on its ears shook like pigtails as it moved furiously: [Don’t cut my leg off! Help me!]
[My bellyache extends to my leg, but there’s nothing wrong with my leg!]
[Mom, I won’t roam around anymore; turns out lack of hygiene leads to humans cutting off your legs.]
[You quacks, is no one going to intervene?!]
"Xu Ying, why are you standing there in a daze? Quickly come over and help hold it down!"
Liu Wenxuan recognized Xu Ying and impatiently urged her.
"Aren’t you the one from a prestigious university majoring in animal medicine, flaunting your skills? Surely you’re not lacking clinical surgical experience and backing out, are you?"
Xu Ying automatically tuned out Liu Wenxuan’s comments and rushed to the lynx’s side.
The lynx noticed new strangers appearing, with two people following behind. Its eyes widened, pupils contracted into thin lines, and its golden irises flickered with despair.
[Quack doctors, get away from me; oh heavens, please save me~]
Xu Ying cautiously approached it, asking in the loudest voice, "You just mentioned you have a bellyache that extends to your leg, is that right?"
[Quack doctors go away (you walk away); the world is ending for me, sob sob...]
[Hmm?]
The previously frantic lynx suddenly paused upon hearing Xu Ying’s question: [Mama mia, heaven has shown its grace!]
[You understand my speech?]
"I can understand, where exactly is your belly uncomforta—"
Before Xu Ying could finish her sentence, Liu Wenxuan swiftly moved forward with the anesthetic needle ready to be injected, "Quick, it’s run out of strength from struggling; hurry up and give it anesthesia!"
The lynx instantly became agitated again!

(Take a look at the lynx with pigtails on its ears, the second picture is a bit fierce, proceed with caution)
