The Broken Halo-Chapter 42: An Opportunity
Simon resolved in his heart that he was not going to go down without a fight.
Sure, his bloodline was weak before this serpentine bloodline, his mind was not.
Aside from Fearless which helped him to feel no fear, his decades of experience as a demon slayer also helped him to remain calm as he faced the gaze of the Basilisk.
He noticed that he could move his neck and his fingers now, and this made his eyes flash with a numerous thoughts.
’I just might be able to overcome this.’
Although Simon was not certain why he was suddenly able to move, he guessed that it was probably because of his refusal to give up.
’Willpower they call it.’ 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Simon knew about the power of Will because it had saved him so many times as a Hero.
There were times when he was facing an enemy far more powerful than him or he was in an extremely dangerous situation, but his refusal to not give up and not die would be what saves him.
Simon closed his eyes, then he exhaled softly. When he opened his eyes, a cold and sharp light was reflected in his eyes as he stared back at the Basilisk.
His fingers moved, then he took a step forward.
Boom!
The world trembled the moment he took the step, and Simon felt a ripple travel across his entire being.
"I don’t know what type of a demon you are."
Step
Boom!
"But..."
Step
Boom!
"... I have slaughtered countless demons and I refuse to die without even putting up a fight. Especially in this manner."
Step
Step
Boom!
Boom!
"I fear no demon."
Step
Boom!
"Demons fear me."
Step
Boom!
"I might be a demon now. But..."
Step
Boom!
"I was once called The Halo of Earth. The Demon Slayer."
Step
Boom!
"I am not going to die to a mere projection of a demonic bloodline."
STEP!
BOOM!
The entire world shook as Simon stood a mere meter in front of the Basilisk’s eyes.
Blood could be seen streaming down his eyes, nose, lips, and ears, but he still remained standing.
He was in so much pain as he stood before the Basilisk’s eyes, but he stared at it with an unflinching cold gaze.
The Basilisk also stared at him with the same indifferent gaze, but for a moment, Simon believed he saw a flicker of emotion flash in the eyes of the Basilisk.
Simon knew that he should have died, but for some reason, he had not.
He did not completely believe that it was because he walked toward the Dark green eyes despite the immense pressure bearing down him, he survived.
He believed there was another reason. But he just couldn’t put his finger on it.
It was then that the Basilisk suddenly looked at the space behind Simon, then it looked up.
"Hmm?"
Simon frowned slightly, then he forced himself to turn despite the pain and pressure.
When he saw what the Basilik was looking at, his eyes widened.
Behind him was a faint mirage of a human wearing armor and a sword in his right hand. There were no colours, only white lines, and Simon instantly recognized the figure.
"Me?"
The image was of him as the Hero of Earth... The Demon Slayer and The Halo of Earth.
Simon was immensely surprised when he saw this, but his attention was placed more on what was above the faint projection of him.
"Eyes?"
Directly above the faint projection of him was a pair of eyes.
These eyes were of a sky blue colour, and they were similar to that of a cat’s eyes.
The faint projection of Simon was ten times his size, but the sky-blue cat eyes were the same size of the Basilisk’s eyes.
They were colossal, and the eyes were staring straight at the Basilisk.
"What... the... hell?"
Simon was stunned, but not only by the appearance of the eyes and him, but the faint feeling of fear he could feel from the Basilisk’s eyes.
"What is going on?"
Simon suddenly felt an urge to do something. An urge to shorten the distance between him and the Basilisk’s eyes.
An urge to not only do that, but to touch it, and then claw at it.
Simon could feel a sort of change in his physical body as he stared at the sky blue cat eyes.
Unlike the Basilisk’s eyes which looked real and solid, the cat eyes were faint and looked like they were going to vanish anytime soon.
Simon pondered on this strange feeling for a few seconds before he made the decision to approach the Basilisk’s eyes.
He looked up at the Basilisk’s eyes with slightly furrowed brows.
"I don’t know what demonic beast you are, but I have a feeling that you just changed something about my bloodline... And I have a feeling it was completely unintentional."
Step
Boom!
Step
Boom!
Step
Boom!
With every step Simon took, the world kept on shaking the more, and the cat eyes behind him also solidified the more.
The cat eyes was not the only thing that became clearer and more solid, the projection of his past self also became clearer as he got closer to the Basilisk’s eyes.
’Four more steps to go.’
Every step he took was not an easy thing to do, and he felt like he was walking while carrying a mountain on his back.
However, he was not an ant carrying the mountain but a titan!
STEP!
BOOM!
’Three more steps to go.’
Simon’s eyes shone with intensity and determination as he walked.
He didn’t know what was happening or what would happen, but he had a feeling that if he was able to reach the Basilisk’s eyes themselves and do as his instincts were telling him to do, something incredible would happen to him.
STEP!
BOOM!
’Two more steps to go.’
The world shook violently the moment Simon placed his feet on the ground.
The pressure he felt multiplied by over a hundred, but he got stronger and could handle it.
His Will could handle it.
STEP!
BOOM!
’One more step to go!’
Anticipation flashed in Simon’s eyes as he raised and lowered his left leg, but just as it was about to touch the ground, the Basilisk’s eye turned to mist and so did the cat’s eyes and his projection.
"What?"
He was stunned, then he saw himself also dissipating into mist, and he instantly knew at that moment that he lost a massive opportunity.
"NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" He screamed in immense rage and fury as his body completely dissipated into mist.
He hated his second life as a demon!
