The Broken Halo-Chapter 41: I Want To Live
The method by which the Shadowgrave Clan was using to extract the Devourer’s blood essence from Simon was a dangerous method.
The moment Simon spine was pierced by the black needles, he experienced so much pain that the veins in his eyes nearly burst open and his body began trembling uncontrollably.
If not for the chains that bound him, he would have fallen to the ground while screaming.
Blood began to pour out of his orifices, and it was slowly drawn toward the chaos runes of the dark pillar in the form of a mist.
A few seconds later, Simon’s head snapped to the sky with blood streaming down his eyes and nose.
His eyes became murky white, almost like he was blind, and he lost consciousness.
However, the chains that bound his neck caused his neck to remain in that position.
There was no more scream, no more sound aside from the blood red mist that was being drawn toward the pillar he was chained to.
Before he lost consciousness, there was just a single thought he had.
’I hate my life as a demon.’
Simon really hated his second opportunity at life, and he could not help but wonder when it would all get better for him.
But what he did not know... was that it would only get worse.
The Grave Lord watched Simon with an indifferent expression, but there was a flicker of confusion in his eyes for a moment.
’Shouldn’t the blood essence of the Devourer be black, not red?’
For a moment, the Grave Lord could not help but think back to the words Simon said about not possessing the Devourer’s bloodline.
’No. That can’t be true. I know what I saw.’
The Grave Lord shook his head, and he decided to keep on observing. He believed that there would be a change very soon.
Meanwhile, Simon was experiencing something entirely different after losing consciousness.
He found himself in an utterly dark space. There was no source of light and no sign of any other thing aside from Simon.
"Where am I?"
His voice echoed in the surroundings, and in the next moment, the hair on his entire body rose and his entire instincts screamed at him.
He felt a presence that was so powerful behind him, and the presence was as powerful as him when he fought the Demon King of Death.
He turned, and his body instantly forgot to breathe.
Behind him was a pair of colossal dark green eyes. The eyes had serpentine slits as pupils, and Simon instantly knew that these were the eyes of a serpent.
He could not see the body, but he knew that these were the eyes of a serpent.
His body began to tremble uncontrollably, and he could not even move a single muscle even when he wanted to.
He could feel that his body was fearful and the feeling of fear was bombarding at his mind, clawing at it to make him experience true fear.
However, Fearless was like an impenetrable barrier that prevented him from feeling true fear, especially from something like this.
Although his mind was not in a state of fear, his body was.
He could feel the immense fear his body was feeling, and after making some guesses, he knew that this fear was truly coming from his bloodline.
The serpent’s eyes he was staring at was the manifestation of a powerful demonic bloodline, and his bloodline which is most likely of a very low quality was immensely fearful of this serpentine bloodline.
What Simon did not know that was that the method the Shadowgrave Clan was using to extract his bloodline depended on another powerful bloodline.
The bloodline he was looking at was the bloodline of a Basilisk, one of the most powerful bloodlines of the Demonic Serpent race.
Assuming Simon had the Devourer’s bloodline in him, the provocative gaze of the Basilisk bloodline would have stirred the Devourer’s bloodline and caused it to fight back due to its pride.
Although the Devourer would win at the end of the day, this would cause the Devourer’s bloodline in Simon to become more active and obvious.
Instead of being dormant, it would want to showcase its powers, and then the black needles in his spine would absorb the bloodline as this occurred.
But the issue was... Simon did not have the bloodline of the Devourer in him.
So, his mixed bloodline of a One-horned demon and a Demon Cat was facing the Basilisk bloodline on its own.
And both bloodlines were like ants before the Basilisk.
Both bloodlines were trembling and they also wanted to run for their lives from the Basilisk, and this made it much easier for the needles and the central pillar to absorb his mixed bloodline with ease.
Simon could feel himself dying at a rapid rate. His bloodline, a core part of himself, something he was born with was being extracted from him.
He was dying, and he could do nothing to stop it.
Simon did not know what was happening in the real world, but as he stared at the the dark green eyes of the Basilisk, his body just froze on the spot and if not for Fearless, he would be on his knees, screaming.
’I honestly hate my second life. It has been nothing but suffering ever since.’
Simon wanted to close his eyes, but he could not even do that, his body was just frozen on the spot. He could not move at all.
Just as he was about to give up, a thought suddenly appeared in his mind.
’Is this how I die?’
’Especially after I was betrayed? Not just once but twice? I have not even accomplished anything in this life.’
’Despite having spent nearly sixteen years as a demon, my hatred and disgust for demons still remain.’
’I... really, really, really hate demons.’
’I want to kill every single demon there is.’
Simon chuckled with a wry smile as he suddenly had this thought.
’Oh, you pathetic fool called Simon. I have been betrayed and hurt by both demons and humans... Both are just evil, and I currently a weak demon who is struggling to survive in this pathetic second life I’ve been given.’
’I don’t want to die... I especially don’t want to die like this.’ 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
’I don’t want to waste my second opportunity like this.’
’... I want to live.’
