The Broken Halo-Chapter 43: I Understand
(A few minutes prior)
While Simon was approaching the Basilisk’s eyes, there were changes that occurred to his physical body, and the Grave Lord saw everything.
The major change that occurred to Simon’s physical body was his blood.
His blood was previously red, causing the mist that was being absorbed by the central pillar to be blood-red.
But now, his blood had faint traces of an indigo hue to it.
At first, the indigo colour was very faint and it seemed like it would vanish, but then it deepened and it looked like Simon’s blood was going to change from a red colour to an indigo colour.
The Grave Lord was extremely baffled for several reasons.
The first and most important one was that the colour of the Devourer’s bloodline was not Indigo but black. He was 100% certain of this, so why had no black blood being extracted from Simon’s body?
The second thing that baffled him was that his bloodline felt threatened by the the indigo blood he was staring at.
His bloodline was of the Noble grade, and Simon who was a mixture of a one-horned demon and demon beastkin should possess a Lesser Bloodline.
So, how could Simon’s blood make his Noble bloodline to feel threatened?
The Grave Lord was extremely baffled and lost for words.
With every passing moment, the indigo hue of his blood deepened, and Simon’s hair became Ionger and was turning white. His nails began to turn into claws, and his body became slightly bigger and taller.
As the Grave Lord watched all these changes with a baffled expression, a sound echoed in the hall.
Crack!
The Grave Lord’s head snapped to one of the crimson pillars, and he saw a crack run across the pillar.
It went from the top of the pillar to its bottom. If it was a little bit deeper, it would have split it in two.
"What?"
Crack!
Crack!
Crack!
Crack!
Crack!
Before the Grave Lord could even comprehend what just happened to the first crimson pillar, the five other crimson pillars also developed cracks and fragments of the pillars fell on the ground.
The Grave Lord looked at the pillars in disbelief and worry.
"What the hell is going on?"
CRACK!
A second after the Grave Lord spoke, a loud crack echoed in the hall, and the Grave Lord’s demon heart skipped multiple beats when he saw a deep crack that nearly split the central black pillar in two.
"I have to end this."
Without hesitation, he removed his hand from the altar and appeared directly before Simon.
The moment he removes his hand from the altar, the chaos runes dimmed and the chains that bound Simon loosened.
Thud!
The thirty black needles receded back into the pillar, and Simon fell to the ground with a loud thud.
He was completely unconscious.
The Grave Lord stared at him with a complex and also grave expression, but Simon remained unconscious with blood pouring out from the thirty holes in his back.
But later on, the holes closed by themselves and the length of his hair reduced along with his claws and the indigo hue of his blood.
His blood still had an indigo hue to it, but it was no longer as deep as before.
"What just happened?" The Grave Lord mumbled with a frown as he stared at Simon with a million thoughts going through his mind.
He looked at the black pillar, then he traced the crack with his finger, and his frown deepened.
"Did he... No... Impossible."
The Grave Lord shook his head vehemently, then he closed his eyes and the chaos runes on the pillar lit up and a ball of blood came out of the pillar.
This ball of blood was the same size as a tennis ball, and it was red with an extremely faint purple hue to it.
"This..." He squinted his eyes. "... This is not the Devourer’s blood essence. What is this?"
He shifted his gaze to Simon, then he looked at the central pillar.
"Did he use the pressure of the Basilisk’s Will to force his bloodline to evolve? Or did he awaken something completely unexpected?"
The Grave Lord’s frown deepened when he noticed something else.
"His foundation was not harmed but strengthened. How could this be?"
"He has not awakened his Demonic Heart, and his bloodline should have been a Lesser Bloodine. He’s also just a kid. But the Basilisk’s Bloodine is a Royal Bloodline."
"It should not be possible for him to survive the Basilisk’s Will, talk less of using its Will to evolve his bloodline. How could a kid from a place worse than the slums of a kingdom accomplish such a thing?"
The Grave Lord gritted his teeth and clenched Simon’s blood in anger, causing it to burst and pour on the ground.
"I don’t know how he did this or if he has some talent, what I care about is the Devourer’s blood essence."
"Where is the Devourer’s blood essence? The Master needs it. The clan needs it, not some unknown bloodline or talent."
Although the Grave Lord had the urge to wake Simon up and ask for the Devourer’s blood essence, he knew that if he did such a thing without at least letting Simon’s body heal could cause Simon to die.
And if Simon died, so would the location of the Devourer’s blood essence.
"Damn it!" The Grave Lord cursed, then he turned and walked away with a dark expression.
"Take him back to the cell and find out where the location of the Devourer’s blood essence is. Find out what he knows by all means. I don’t care if you torture him or break him, just make sure you bring me the location of the Devourer’s blood essence. He is just a child, so I don’t expect any complications."
"Do you understand me?"
There was silence for a moment before a robed dark figure rose from Simon’s shadow and bowed.
"I understand."
"Good." The Grave Lord said nothing else, then he walked out of the hall, leaving behind Simon and the robed figure.
