Chapter 216: 216: They’ve Started Attacking?

Instructor Sormon’s words was something Simon did not expect in the slightest, and honestly, he was truly stunned when he heard what he said.

Before today, he knew that the chances of some Instructors or maybe even all Instructors having a sort of disdain, disregard, and disgust against slaves would be possible, but because of Instructor Valdin and Instructor Emith, he had completely forgot about this thought.

He had developed a subconscious belief that the Instructors would not discriminate and would teach everybody equally.

Instructor Sormon was a wake up call to him, but at the same time, it was also worrying since Instructor Sormon was their Instructor for one of the core courses of their Year One class.

It would not be surprising if Instructor Sormon had his ways of making sure that Simon failed at the end of the day, and if the Instructor could truly do such a thing, then it means that he would not be able to advance to the next class.

’Hmm... If that actually happens, then so be it. I’ll just find a way to leave the clan as quickly as possible since it’s not like I need the clan or the academy to grow stronger.’

Simon inhaled then exhaled deeply before shifting his gaze to the smooth cliff wall.

Many of his peers might have felt a strong emotion of maybe shame, anger, or sadness at the words of Instructor Sormon, but Simon felt none of that.

Even with the fact that he actually had the mind of a sixty year old man, it did not mean that Instructor Sormon’s words could not have affected him.

He could have felt anger at being disrespected by a demon who would not have been able to lace his boots back in his prime. His pride might have felt hurt and he might have lashed out in anger.

But after everything he had gone through in the demon realm, one thing he wanted was to have extreme self control even over his emotions.

To be cold and pragmatic.

For Simon, Instructor Sormon’s attitude toward him could not be compared to everything he had gone through and was nothing to him.

Since the Instructor did not want to teach him, he would learn himself.

He was not a child and he had far more experience than the Instructor, so who said he couldn’t learn on his own.

He ignored the mocking snickers, the jeers thrown at him, the laughter, and the gazes filled with disdain.

Those who hated Simon and were dissatisfied with him but were too terrified to attack felt happy with how Instructor Sormon acted.

The cheetah-masked classmate of his to his left was amongst the loudest.

"Useless slave. You’re so pathetic and useless that even Instructor Sormon has no choice but to leave you for last."

Ptui

"Useless son of a bitch."

The cheetah-masked bastard spat and laugh in mockery, but Simon completely ignored everything.

He was scanning the smooth wall so that he would know the path to take.

Unlike the first hundred feet of the wall where he could walk straight up, he could not do the same thing this time around.

He had to look for the best possible path to take, and after spending about twenty seconds scanning the wall, he knew how to move.

But he didn’t move yet.

He crouched, then he removed his boot, making sure that he was barefoot.

But that was not all.

He did something he had not done for a very long time.

He released the claws of his feet, then he released the claws of his hands.

A dark emerald-orange light flowed across his hands and feet, but if one was observant enough, they would see that the demonic energy around his claws were rough and uneven like a chainsaw.

’Since you don’t want to teach me how to climb, I’ll just have to be creative.’

Simon approached the wall, then he pushed his claws into the space where his fingers were meant to be.

He had a firmer grip as a result, then he began his climb.

Sunless had been observing him ever since Instructor Sormon showed off his disdain and perception toward slaves.

None could see her expression or eyes, but Simon was a truly interesting demon to her.

The fact that he didn’t care about the mockings and laughter of his classmates was something that truly intrigued her.

Could she do the same?

She had pride, and she felt that she would not be as calm as Simon after experiencing such.

But what truly surprised and fascinated her was the ingenious method Simon was using to climb the wall.

Using and enhancing the tools he already had.

Such an ingenious method.

And she was also shaken by Simon’s level of control over his demonic energy. To make his demonic energy to form such shape around his claws?

’How high is his control?’ She wondered.

She watched as Simon used his enhanced claws to climb instead of using his finger which would have lesser grip and could be sweaty at the end of the claw.

The claws would pierce into the holes or spaces where his fingers were meant to hold, and it made him move at a faster pace than the others.

’I guess his claws are not strong enough to pierce through the wall, because if they were, he would not be using those tiny spaces and ledges, but creating his own holes in the wall through his claws.’

She observed for a few more seconds before she decided to climb.

’Can I do the same?’

She looked at her fingers, then she closed her eyes and controlled the shadow energy in her body instead of demonic energy.

She had a greater control over her shadow energy compared to her demonic energy because of her high S grade shadow affinity.

But unlike Thorgan, she could not use her shadow energy to perform things like Shadow Teleportation, enhancing weapons with shadow energy, Shadow Dimension, and even Shadow Sense.

This was because Thorgan was a Daemon and a descendant of the Shadow Monarch, and his shadow affinity grade was higher than S grade.

It was the main reason why Simon felt a huge resistance when he tried devouring Thorgan.

Her high S grade shadow affinity allowed her to control the shadow energy in her body and to use it only on her body, but the control she had over it was a lot better than the control she had over her demonic energy.

Her fingers were coated in shadow energy which resembled a dark gaseous matter.

The shadow energy elongated across her fingers, turning into claws.

However, she was frowning behind her mask.

’I can’t do it.’

She had tried making her claws rough and uneven like what Simon did to his demonic energy, but she failed.

She sighed softly, but that didn’t stop her as she began climbing the wall.

As for Simon, his gaze was cold and indifferent as he kept on climbing.

But just as he raised his hand and was about to put his claws inside a hole, he heard the sound of the wind being cut and disturbed behind him.

Without hesitation, he turned to the side, and an arrow crashed into the wall and broke into pieces.

’They’ve started attacking?’
