Chapter 310: Chapter 310 Please... please don’t leave me here alone

Mr. Ford flipped his hand, and that golden sorcery worm shot up into the sky.

Its buzzing noise was maddening, like someone was drilling into your brain, making it hard to think straight.

Karl felt it right away — the Silverwing Queen inside him was going nuts, twitchy and itching to break free.

Luna’s face went pale. Her blood couldn’t help Karl, and she knew that golden worm could wipe out the Silverwing Queen.

If the queen left him, Karl wouldn’t survive. No way she was letting that happen.

Her eyes filled with fury as she stared down her father. "You’ve been obsessed over a dead woman your whole life. Mom died because of you, and you tortured me like it was a sport. Now you want to kill Karl and hurt Sunny too? You’re a monster."

"So what if I am?" Mr. Ford’s eyes glinted with cold rage. "Get in my way and you’re no daughter of mine."

Karl pulled Luna behind him firmly. "It’s been a while since I’ve spilled blood. Luna, close your eyes."

Luna didn’t want to look. Her father, who gave her life but also made it hell, and the man she wanted to spend her life with — how was she supposed to choose?

Then—bang!

A shot rang out, and the golden sorcery worm exploded into nothing.

Mr. Ford coughed up a mouthful of blood on the spot.

Karl frowned slightly, glancing into the shadows. A sniper.

Damn good aim.

Had to be Keith. There was no one else.

Mr. Ford collapsed to the ground, the golden sorcery worm having been the queen embedded in his body — they lived and died together.

It hadn’t even had time to show its stuff before getting blown to pieces.

What a joke.

Deep in the woods, Keith took his eye off the scope and lit a cigarette.

"Less talk, more action."

Someone wanted to take out his boss? Yeah, not happening.

Trying to use Luna to threaten Karl? Karl wouldn’t strike. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Fine then — he’d be the bad guy.

Keith peeked through the scope again. "Well damn, that old geezer looks done for. That’s a sweet bonus. Maybe I’ll finally earn that villa from Mr. Reid."

He packed up his sniper rifle, slung his gear, and started hiking down.

Mr. Ford wiped the blood from his mouth. "This is treachery!" he shouted, though another mouthful of blood followed right after.

Luna took a step toward him, but Karl pulled her back behind him.

"Luna, after everything, can’t you see? He never really cared about you — not even a little."

Mr. Ford’s gaze locked onto her from the ground behind Karl. "Luna, come here... You’re my daughter..."Luna sobbed quietly, but Karl held her tightly. "Luna, if he hurts you, Tristan’s gonna suffer too."

"I’m your dad, how could I ever hurt you? Help me, Luna," Mr. Ford reached out his hand, voice trembling. "Luna, please save your father."

No matter how hard she tried, Luna couldn’t ignore the bond they shared.

She rushed over and knelt beside him. "Hold on, I’ll treat your wound, just wait—"

But in a flash, a blade gleamed in Mr. Ford’s hand.

Before she could even react, a cold glint shot toward her chest.

The chilling sound of a blade sinking into flesh echoed.

A strong arm blocked her, blood instantly soaking through.

Karl yanked her toward him, clutching her tightly. He yanked the knife out—blood gushed out like a broken dam.

Luna stared at him, stunned. "Karl, you..."

Mr. Ford burst into wild laughter. "You’re as good as dead, Karl! The poison’s already in your system, there’s no antidote! Not even Luna can save you. She means nothing to you, doesn’t she? You were only keeping her alive for Tristan—for that woman! She’s never been important to you!"

Karl coughed, blood trickling from his lips. Still, he smiled faintly, "Luna, close your eyes."

She knew exactly what he was planning. She turned away, body trembling hard. "Please... don’t let it hurt too much."

Mr. Ford watched him step closer bit by bit, fear widening his eyes. "You’re really gonna kill me? You dare—"

Blood splattered across Karl’s already pale face as Mr. Ford clutched at his throat, blood spurting through his fingers.

In under a minute, he gave one last twitch and went still.

Luna turned back just in time to hear Karl collapse. She caught his body in her arms—his lips had turned black. "Karl, hang in there. I’ll get the antidote, I’ll—"

"It’s too late, Luna," he whispered.

"No! It’s not! Please, just hold on a little longer!"

Karl gently lifted his hand, brushing her cheek. "Luna, my happiest moments... they were all with you. Yeah, I admit, at first I got close to you because of Megan. But later, you... you became everything to me. Promise me you’ll keep going. For Tristan. But more importantly—for you. Luna, I love you..."

His blood-stained hand slipped from her face. His breathing stopped. From his arm, the winged sorcery worm crawled out.

Luna quickly bit her finger and let blood drip onto the wound.

"Please... please don’t leave me here alone, Karl... I’m begging you..."
