The Billionaire's Secret Bump-Chapter 57: The offer
Fiona had just had a long, dragging day at Voss Éclat.
Every hour had felt heavier than the last. The team meeting where Katherine sat in and offered her polite but pointed compliments that somehow always managed to make Fiona’s work feel smaller. The tense private conversation afterward, where Martin had begged her to hold on just a little longer, his eyes filled with guilt and longing.
By the time five o’clock came, Fiona was emotionally exhausted.
Her shoulders ached from holding herself together. Her eyes felt heavy and dry. She sat at her desk, staring at her screen without really seeing it, one hand resting protectively over her stomach.
She reached for her laptop to shut it down.
That’s when the email arrived.
The subject line was professional and intriguing:
**Exclusive Opportunity – Senior Director of Inclusive Marketing & Brand Strategy**
From: [email protected]
Fiona clicked it open, expecting perhaps a generic newsletter or a cold outreach.
Instead, she found a formal job offer addressed directly to her.
Moonshine Empire was offering her the position of Senior Director of Inclusive Marketing & Brand Strategy. The package was extraordinary — significantly higher base salary, excellent benefits including full creative control, comprehensive maternity coverage, flexible hybrid work arrangements, equity options, and a generous support allowance. The email emphasized that her experience and vision aligned perfectly with Moonshine’s mission of authentic inclusivity and forward-thinking beauty campaigns.
Fiona stared at the screen in disbelief.
Her heart started beating faster.
How did they even know about her?
She had never applied to Moonshine. She had never even looked at their careers page. The company was notoriously private and selective — many in the industry didn’t even know the exact location of their headquarters. Yet here was a detailed, personalized offer with impressive benefits that were simply too good to decline on paper alone.
She read it again, slowly, letting every line sink in.
Stability.
Security.
Creative freedom.
Full maternity support.
It was everything she needed right now — a real chance to escape the daily emotional minefield at Voss Éclat, Katherine’s presence, and the constant ache of seeing Martin every day.
Fiona leaned back in her chair, hand still on her stomach. She closed her eyes and let a wave of conflicting emotions wash over her.
Relief — because this could be her way out, a clean break from the toxicity and pain.
Excitement — because the role sounded like a dream, a place where her passion for inclusive marketing could actually flourish.
Fear — because accepting it would mean leaving behind the life she had built at Voss and stepping into the unknown.
Guilt — because part of her still loved Martin, still remembered the way he had held her, still clung to his promises even as his actions kept disappointing her.
She sat there for a long time, rereading the email, her thumb gently stroking her belly.
Fiona smiled through the tears gathering in her eyes.
She decided she needed to see the company in person before making any decision.
She couldn’t accept something this big without knowing what she was walking into.
Fiona saved the email, shut down her laptop, and left the office.
Instead of going straight home, she headed to Lena’s house.
She needed a friend to talk to.
Lena opened the door almost immediately. One look at Fiona’s tired face and red-rimmed eyes, and she pulled her into a tight, wordless hug.
"You look like you’ve been through hell," Lena said softly, guiding her inside. "Come in. Tea is already on."
Fiona sank onto Lena’s comfortable couch, the familiar scent of vanilla candles and fresh laundry wrapping around her like a safe blanket. Lena disappeared into the kitchen and returned a few minutes later with two steaming mugs of ginger tea and a plate of simple biscuits.
She sat down beside Fiona and waited.
Fiona took a sip of tea, letting the warmth settle in her chest, then finally spoke.
"I had the longest day," she began, voice quiet. "Katherine was there , clinging to Martin, talking about their wedding like it’s already perfect. Then Martin pulled me aside and begged me to hold on just a little longer. I told him I can’t wait anymore. I can’t keep watching him with her while I fall apart."
Lena listened without interrupting, her hand resting gently on Fiona’s arm.
Fiona continued, the words pouring out.
"Then, right as I was about to leave, I got this email. From Moonshine Empire. They’re offering me a senior director position — significantly higher pay, full creative control, amazing benefits , flexible hybrid work... it’s too good to be true. I never applied. I don’t even know how they found me. But the package is incredible. It could be my way out of Voss"
Lena’s eyes widened as Fiona showed her the email on her phone.
"Fi... this is huge. The benefits alone — would take so much pressure off you. And creative control? That’s what you’ve always wanted."
Fiona nodded, tears welling up again.
"I know. It feels like a lifeline. But I’m scared. What if I’m running away too soon? What if Martin really is trying to end the engagement? What if I accept this and regret leaving him behind?"
Lena squeezed her hand gently.
"You’re not running away. You’ve been patient. You’ve been strong. You’ve given him chance after chance. But you have a baby to think about now. You deserve peace. You deserve a future where you’re not constantly hurting. This offer could give you that."
Fiona leaned her head on Lena’s shoulder, letting the tears fall quietly.
"I’m so tired, Lena. I still love him. Even after everything... the pull is still there. But I’m exhausted from waiting. I’m exhausted from watching him stand beside Katherine while I hide my pregnancy and my pain."
Lena wrapped her arms around her.
"Then maybe it’s time to choose you. And the baby. And a future that doesn’t keep breaking your heart."
They sat like that for a long time — Fiona crying softly, Lena holding her without judgment.
When Fiona finally pulled back, she wiped her face and looked at her friend.
"I think I need to see Moonshine in person before I decide. I want to understand what I’d be walking into."
Lena smiled softly.
"Then go see it. Take the step. You don’t have to decide everything tonight. But you deserve to explore a path that puts you first."
Fiona nodded, a small, fragile spark of hope flickering in her chest.
