The Billionaire's Rental Wife Is A Hot Shot-Chapter 21: Sweet Gestures
Chapter 21: Sweet Gestures
"Calm down, guys!" Avery walked over to the group and continued, "He’s her brother, Elias Wright."
While Kiana sighed in relief, Zevian narrowed his eyes in confusion. He relaxed when he caught sight of Elias’s face—the boy had transformed completely into a man, almost unrecognizable.
"So, he’s my uncle?" the little girl asked excitedly. When Avery nodded, she clapped her hands. "Yay! Daddy, let’s go greet him."
Zevian nodded, and they walked toward the Wright siblings with Avery, while Natalie excused herself and walked toward her mom to greet the arriving guests. The entire acre of the Reign Mansion’s garden was decorated lavishly, every part exuding luxury and royalty with a stage set in one of the corners. Many guests couldn’t understand why the Reign family treated Evelyn nicely.
"Hi, Eli!" Avery hugged Elias, ruffling his messy hair. She couldn’t help but admire how the little rascal she had raised with Evelyn over the past seventeen years had grown into a handsome and charming man in his crimson-red tuxedo.
"When did you return?" Avery asked. Elias’s scowl replaced his earlier happiness, anger flashing in his eyes. He had been tricked by his mother and kept under house arrest for the past few days, with no network and three huge men guarding his every move. Luckily, he managed to blackmail his way back here, only to hear the shocking news that his sister married the bastard who had broken her heart.
Avery understood the situation from his silence and razor-sharp gaze and didn’t press further. Turning to Zevian and Kiana, she introduced them with a smile, "Meet your brother-in-law, Zevian, and his sweet daughter, Kiana." freeweɓnovel.cѳm
Elias smiled at the little girl who waved at him, but his expression hardened as he shifted his gaze to Zevian. Gripping Zevian’s extended hand, he warned, "Hurt her this time, and I will murder you."
Avery and Evelyn exchanged worried glances as the two men stared each other down, their handshake turning into a silent wrestling battle. Elias refused to release Zevian’s hand until he gave his word, fully aware of the events that transpired six years ago.
When Zevian’s family suddenly arranged his marriage with Katherine Grey, Evelyn was ready to break up, understanding his tough spot within his family. Zevian promised to talk with his parents, to fight for their love, but when he failed, he recklessly urged Evelyn to marry him, thinking it was the only way out of this business-marital trap.
Elias felt guilty too, having persuaded his sister to agree back then to marry Zevian. He had waited with Evelyn in front of the marriage office that day, only to get betrayed.
"Don’t worry, I don’t want to break my nose again," Zevian joked, breaking the handshake with a small smile. When Elias saw their engagement pictures flooding that night, he stormed into Zevian’s office and threw quite a few punches. Avery, who had been present during that incident, couldn’t help but chuckle, remembering how the twelve-year-old Elias had climbed on the table to hit Zevian.
"I’ll break everything except your nose this time," Elias replied, squaring his shoulders to showcase his strength. He had enough muscle now to beat the pulp out of him if he broke his sister’s heart again.
"Your muscles say it all, Mr. Superman," Avery joked, squeezing Elias’s arm lightly, trying to lighten the mood.
Kiana also leaned forward and curiously poked Elias’s arm at Avery’s comment. Looking up at her new uncle, she mumbled, "They are really hard." Everyone laughed out loud at her comment, the earlier tension quickly dissipating.
They chatted for a while before Kiana grumbled that she was hungry. Since Avery had to make some last-minute arrangements for the stage, and the main couple had to greet Zevian’s family and the guests, Elias decided to take care of the little girl.
Evelyn smiled as Elias and Kiana happily chatted and walked toward the food court. It felt like seeing two of her kids in one frame, and she sighed, hoping Elias wouldn’t get mad for lying to him. When he called her upon arriving home last night, she confirmed that everything Reign Constructions posted was true. She further lied that she agreed to marry Zevian given the circumstances, fearing their enemies might be spying on their calls.
Sensing she was lost in thought, Zevian decided to distract her. "Looks like I convinced you," he teased, bringing Evelyn out of her reverie.
She blinked at him, before following his eyes to her gown. A small blush crept up her cheeks as she recalled the incident. Composing herself, she lifted her gown to reveal the sneakers and replied, "Oh, yes! You totally did!"
Zevian let out a slight chuckle, and Evelyn’s smile revealed that this small gesture had touched her. If he continued being this sweet instead of irritating her, she wouldn’t have a problem falling for him again. But that would be too much for this son of Satan.
Zevian noticed that Sophia and Annabelle had arrived at a distance from them. Feeling it might only ruin her mood, he took her hand and asked, "Let’s go and greet my parents."
Evelyn nodded with a smile and let him escort her to his parents, who were talking with a few international guests. Rosalind’s face instantly lit up and Jonathan reluctantly introduced Evelyn to their partners from a different state.
"Thank you for coming all the way here. Hope you enjoy the night," Evelyn replied in Italian, surprising both the guests and the Reign couple. Avery, who had joined them, couldn’t help but smile, enjoying everyone’s reactions.
As the guests nodded and were escorted by a staff member, Rosalind couldn’t help but praise her daughter-in-law, "You were so good, Evelyn. Did you take classes in college?"
Avery smiled at her aunt’s excitement, imagining how she might react if she knew Evelyn was the designer Grace they eagerly wanted to meet. But this was not the right time; they had planned a bigger surprise to reveal it on the right occasion. With a cheeky smile, she replied, "She learned it a few months ago, specifically for a special friend."
Zevian’s expression darkened at his cousin’s words. Just when he was glad to hear Mr. Igor canceled his plans to be here because of an emergency, here they were talking about him again! He glared at Avery, who stared back before completely ignoring him and nudging her friend to reply.
"It was hard for him to express himself rightly through the translator, so I decided to take a few basic classes," Evelyn explained, talking about expressing the designs he wanted, but Zevian mistook it for something romantic. She couldn’t help but stifle a chuckle feeling him glare at her.
"And what else did you learn for him?" Zevian asked, his voice dripping with vinegar. He snaked his hand around her waist and pulled her closer, forcing her to look into his eyes.
Rosalind sensed the tension and quickly pushed her husband toward other guests, letting the younger ones enjoy their time without making things awkward.
As the elder couple moved away, Avery decided to annoy him further, "Oh, she even learned piano for him."
Zevian’s expression changed, his eyes fixed on Evelyn, asking if it was true. When she shyly nodded, his grip tightened and, if not for the thick bodice of the gown, Evelyn would have felt his fingers digging into her waist.
But before they could continue their little argument, Avery suddenly pointed toward the faraway entrance and chirped, much to Zevian’s displeasure, "No, way! Look! Mr. Igor is really here!"
