Swordsman's Regression: Reawakened as a Necromancer-Chapter 176: Role Assignment
⸢Soul Soldier: Mercius Seagrave (Lvl 132)⸥
⸢Class: Knight⸥
⸢Talent: Talent of Battle Supremacy - Legendary⸥
⸢Innate Talent: Holy Purification - Legendary⸥
⸢Summon Role: Do you wish to allocate a specific role to this summon? Yes / Later⸥
Giving Soul Summons roles wasn’t a necessity, but it had its benefits. In a growing army, barking orders at each soldier would easily become a frustrating thing to do.
It worked better for everyone if everyone knew exactly what they were meant to do, hence creating harmony in a battlefield where chaos was the story.
Back in the old inn called Grim Gazer, in the unorthodox village of Deathlehem, Percival sat applesauced on the bed, prepared to begin this process.
As much as he wanted sleep, he thought it best to get this handled as soon as possible.
For his first and most powerful Summon, Mercius Seagrave:
The Blade of Brackenbridge, undeniably, had the makings of a leader. Despite the onslaught of the Demonspawns back in the Battle of Brackenbridge, he held his own, fighting for his fallen brothers and for the province.
He was fierce and direct. He wasn’t a tactical fighter, but not all leaders led with tactics; they led with spirit and drive.
Mercius was the embodiment of both those traits.
More importantly, his Innate Talent was quite a surprising one, and it made sense to Percival now, why Mercius once held the record for the most Demonspawn killed.
He must have been literally hunting them. Because killing them made him stronger.
⸢Innate Talent: Holy Purification⸥
⸢Description: Possessing extremely holy mana makes killing Demons and their spawns significantly easier. With every Demon slain, your strength continuously increases, and this holy energy can be actively extended to empower fellow warriors as the ultimate purger of evil⸥
Percival remembered how Mercius fought back in the Demon Gate World. He had slaughtered through those Manor Vampires and Revenants like he had a personal vendetta.
It all made sense now.
More so, if this holy mana that helped him purged Demons could be extended to fellow warriors, that meant Percival’s Summons could also be imbued with this interesting Innate Talent.
—at least for a time frame.
But what types of Summons would be best fitting for this? Demon Summons felt counterintuitive.
They weren’t really warriors anyway, their only purpose in the battles was to sow chaos in the enemy and allow Percival and his legion the space to carry out other things.
Soul Soldiers could benefit from it. But like Willow and Mercius, any Soul Soldier Percival resurrects would likely have their own Innate Talents.
Besides, there weren’t that many of them yet, and with Mages, Beast Tamers and Archers planned for the future, the need for the Talent extension wasn’t that high.
At least not at high as it was for the Skeleton Soldiers.
With no mana or powers of their own, if Percival’s Skeletons were going to face Demons and Demonspawns, they needed buffs of their own.
Mercius’s ⸢Holy Purification⸥ was the perfect candidate.
Since the only way the Talent could be applied to them was if they were fighting alongside the Brackenbutcher, Percival came to the decision of what Mercius’s role would be.
⸢Soul Soldier: Mercius Seagrave (Lvl 132)⸥
⸢Class: Knight⸥
⸢Summon Role: Do you wish to allocate a specific role to this summon? Yes / Later⸥
He selected ⸢Yes⸥.
The interface narrowed to a rectangle.
⸢Please input the role and role description for your Soul Summon, Mercius⸥
Percival slowly typed down the role and description using a mental keyboard.
⸢Role: Skeleton General⸥
⸢Description: Mercius Seagrave leads my Skeleton Army, Soldiers and Beasts. He gives them orders based on my directive and his war instincts. He leads them into any and every battle, fighting by my side as my second-in-command⸥.
The system hesitated for a moment as it scanned and interpreted Percival’s words, sending the directive into whatever dark, unexplainable software that controlled his powers.
⸢...⸥

⸢Congratulations! Role Assigning was successful!⸥
⸢Mercius Seagrave’s profile is updating:⸥
⸢Soul Soldier: Mercius Seagrave (Lvl 132)⸥
⸢Class: Knight⸥
⸢Talent: Talent of Battle Supremacy - Legendary⸥
⸢Innate Talent: Holy Purification - Legendary⸥
⸢Summon Role: Skeleton General - Your second-in-command and leader of your Skeleton Army⸥.
Satisfied with that, Percival moved to his second Soul Soldier: the softhearted, inspiring spirit of Willow Lockhart.
⸢Soul Soldier: Willow Lockhart (Lvl 107)⸥
⸢Class: Knight⸥
⸢Talent: Talent of Battle Supremacy - Legendary⸥
⸢Innate Talent: Severed Fate - Legendary⸥
⸢Summon Role: Do you wish to allocate a specific role to this summon? Yes / Later⸥
For Willow, Percival couldn’t really say that her Innate Talent—as overpowered as it was—could point to what role was best for her.
⸢Innate Talent: Severed Fate⸥
⸢Description: You learn from defeat instantly. Any damage type, status effect, or method of killing that is used against you once will have its effectiveness reduced by 100% in subsequent encounters. You cannot suffer from the same cause twice⸥.
Percival was still surprised by this Talent as he was back in the Manor when he had seen her corpse for the first time.
To be able to become 100% immune to the same strike when it’s hit the second time, that was a game changer for anyone.
Ultimately, everyone was limited to their given Class Skills. If she became immune to all of them after the initial strikes of each one, she was basically invincible to that Class.
All she had to do was survive the first strike.
Percival’s brows narrowed with that thought. Quickly, he selected Willow’s name and her attributes rolled out.
⸢Attributes:⸥
⸢Strength: 620⸥
⸢Agility: 890⸥
⸢Speed: 2010⸥
⸢Constitution: 1450⸥
⸢Intelligence: 600⸥
⸢Dexterity: 815⸥
⸢Luck: 410⸥
⸢Perception: 630⸥
⸢Charisma: 900⸥
His eyes locked onto her Constitution stat. ⸢1450⸥.
It was really high. Almost just as high as his. For a Lvl 101, even a Knight, that was slightly out of place. But the reason was clearly because of her Innate Talent.
For the function of the Talent to work, it required her to survive the first strike. And for her to do that, she required a high Constitution.
Alright, now Percival knew what her role would be!
⸢Summon Role: Do you wish to allocate a specific role to this summon? Yes / Later⸥
He selected ⸢Yes⸥.

Percival began.
⸢Role: Penetrator⸥
⸢Description: Willow is the risk-taker of my legion. She is the shock-vanguard who dives into the enemy lines, taking hits that she will grow an immunity to, while using her Skills to scatter the enemy lines and formations⸥.
Percival’s reasoning for this was crystal after he saw all the pieces.
The role of Penetrator—diving deep behind enemy lines to scatter formations and absorb attacks—was the absolute perfect fit for Willow because her attribute spread was custom-built to exploit her Innate Talent in the center of the chaos.
Her massive Speed (2010) and Agility (890) were the delivery systems.
They would allow her to instantly close the gap, bypass heavy frontline defenders, and penetrate straight into the heart of the enemy’s backline or Mages before they can react.
By plunging directly into their ranks and scattering their positioning, she would force the enemy to unleash their strongest Class Skills on her all at once to get her out.
This is exactly where her abnormally high Constitution (1450) comes into play. It almost guaranteed she could tank that concentrated, initial barrage of heavy strikes and crowd-control effects without being killed.
Once she survived that first desperate wave, ⸢Severed Fate⸥ would trigger, and Willow would instantly become 100% immune to their entire arsenal.
Using her Skills, she would disarm the enemy formation from the inside out and render them completely helpless for Percival and the rest of his legion to clean up.
It was a war-ready plan that just needed some training to get used to.

Percival decided to suspend the role assignment for his Soul Beast, the Swamp God Dragon.
It was an A-Ranked Beast, he knew. But it was unfair to give it any role when it was untested and there were no other Soul Beasts to compare it with.
He looked out the window. The sun was still up.
Deciding to leave rest for nighttime, he equipped the cheap leather in his inventory and picked up his Swordcase.
It was time to train.
