Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Caves are the Nicest

Wu Yue looked at the low, shabby grass huts around her. ’So, people like me, with no powerful status and no great contributions to my name, are going to live in the shantytown from now on, huh!’

’What is this, refugee status?’

Unwilling to give up, she asked, "So what does it take to get a cave?"

Qingcao tugged on Wu Yue’s arm. "Yue, you should stop thinking about getting a cave. In the Snow Tiger Tribe, besides the witch, no Pure Human has ever owned their own cave." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Qinghua nodded. "The witch once said that if a Pure Human can bring back three Beast Crystals, they will earn the right to live in a cave."

Wu Yue’s face fell in despair. "Even Beastmen and Half beastman Warriors are killed or injured when facing a Fierce Beast, let alone a Pure Human like me. That’s an impossible condition."

Seeing her dejected expression, a rare, faint smile appeared on Qinghua’s usually serious face. "Just focus on finding a place to build your grass hut.

The witch set this condition, and no one is an exception, not even Aya."

Qingcao nodded. "That’s right. Aya lives in one of the grass huts over in the middle. Unless her future partner is a Beastman or a Half beastman, she probably has no hope of ever living in a cave."

Wu Yue stared blankly at the sky. ’Just as I thought. No matter the era, real estate is always a killer industry.’

Suddenly, as if she’d thought of something, her eyes lit up as she looked at Qinghua. "Why are all the grass huts in the tribe so low? Can’t they be built any higher?"

Qinghua’s expression suddenly turned serious. "Yue, you must remember this. The tribe doesn’t care about the size of a grass hut, but its height is an absolute rule. If it’s too high, we’ll be in danger when wild animals or Fierce Beasts get into the tribe."

’Indeed,’ she thought. ’One should never underestimate human ingenuity.’

Wu Yue showed that she understood. "So you mean as long as my hut is the same height as everyone else’s, I can decide the size myself?"

Qinghua nodded, a teasing glint in her eye. "Yue, the design for huts this size has been passed down for generations. Other tribe members have tried to build them bigger, but they collapse easily if you expand the base area."

Wu Yue chuckled. "Amu once told me about a very magical kind of grass hut. I’m going to try and build it."

Seeing her determined expression, Qinghua didn’t try to persuade her otherwise. "Alright. When you start building, my partner and I will come help."

Wu Yue smiled. "Let’s start tomorrow. Can I choose any spot to build the hut?"

Qinghua stood up and led her to an open area, pointing to a stone placed on the ground. "Any place with a stone has already been claimed by a tribe member. You can pick any spot without a stone, as large as you want."

Wu Yue squatted down, picked up a branch, and paced out a section of land. On the empty plot next to Qinghua’s home, she drew a circle roughly thirty square meters in area. "Is this size okay?"

Qinghua gave her a surprised look, then nodded with a complicated expression. "Of course. You can even go bigger. The tribe has few caves, but there is a lot of empty land."

Wu Yue gazed out and saw that it was true. Vast stretches of open land were uninhabited by any tribe members.

"Qinghua, where do we live during the winter?"

Qinghua looked at her, confused. "In the caves, of course. During the winter, many starving Fierce Beasts and wild animals attack the tribe. It’s too dangerous to live in the grass huts."

’So, in the end,’ Wu Yue thought, ’caves really are the nicest thing to have in this world.’
