Surviving in the Beast World with a System-Chapter 37: Reward
After bidding farewell to the sisters Qinghua and Qingcao, Wu Yue returned to her cave.
She had always assumed those thatched huts were for the slaves. To think they were actually home to Pure Humans—and her future residence as well.
"Host, don’t be discouraged. You’ll get your meat, and you’ll get your cave. Now, are you feeling up to turning in the Grass Carp task?"
The system’s voice was a bit fawning. Its host was simply too dejected right now. As a qualified system, it felt obligated to give her some hope and help her get back on her feet.
’I feel so inexplicably great about myself~’
"Turn in the Grass Carp task." Wu Yue’s eyes lit up in an instant, and she stared expectantly at her small nest of grass.
"Task ’Capture 20 Grass Carp’ complete. Reward: one cutting board. Please continue your efforts, Host."
As the system’s voice faded, a laptop-sized... stone slab appeared in the cave.
The familiar pattern, the familiar texture...
Wu Yue spat out her ’term of endearment’ for the system through clenched teeth: "You damned system!!!"
Huddled away in a corner of its program, the system stirred silently, not even looking up as it continued to check the instruction manual.
Sensing the system’s silence, Wu Yue’s chest heaved with anger. "Didn’t you say it was a fancy, high-end cutting board?"
"Other than the size, how is this any different from that stone slab I brought back before?"
"Ahem, Host, please calm down. I just checked the manual, and this cutting board is actually really incredible. Don’t look down on it just because of its appearance; you’ll hurt its feelings."
Wu Yue shot it a sidelong glance. "I’m the one who’s hurt here. I’ll give you one chance to convince me. Tell me what’s so incredible about it."
The system chuckled obsequiously. "First, this cutting board is very light, making it convenient to carry. Second... blah blah blah~ Don’t believe me? Host, just try it!"
Wu Yue gave the sturdy-looking cutting board a suspicious glance, then tentatively lifted a corner. "Huh?"
Sure enough, the cutting board looked unremarkable, but it wasn’t heavy at all. Most importantly...
Looking at the cutting board in her hand, now just slightly larger than her palm, Wu Yue nodded with satisfaction.
"This folding feature is pretty nice."
The system wiped the cold sweat from its brow. She was finally satisfied.
"Host, besides what the task required, shall all the remaining Grass Carp be sold for points?"
Recalling where those Grass Carp had come from, Wu Yue nodded decisively. "Sell them, sell them all. Don’t keep a single one." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"DING! 21 points received from selling Grass Carp. Total account balance: 37 points. Please continue your efforts, Host."
Wu Yue was overjoyed. "System, how many points per Grass Carp?"
"One point per fish."
Woo~ Wu Yue’s eyes lit up. She secretly decided to go catch more Grass Carp to sell to the system when she had a chance.
"Long-term quest ’Sustenance’ initiated: Find a food unknown to the Snow Tiger Tribe. Reward: 10 points and the back-basket weaving method."
The mechanical voice sounded again. The reward it announced made Wu Yue’s heart instantly begin to race.
’The back-basket weaving method. Now *this* was a truly useful reward.’
"System, give me more quests like this in the future."
The system was rendered speechless. "My dear Host, this is a main quest. The ones you did before were all triggered quests. Naturally, the rewards can’t compare."
Wu Yue was gobsmacked. "There are tiers for rewards?"
The system was scornful. "But of course. Your current points are only enough to unlock the lifestyle-related main quests."
Wu Yue’s eyes sparkled. "Does that mean there are more exciting main quests too?"
The system’s voice turned cold. "Weakling Host, please continue your efforts. A wonderful life is waiting for you."
’Heh. Damned system. I’m so done with you.’
