Delayed Passion: Miss Lynch's Unrequited Love-Chapter 41: Did Thea Lynch Hit Someone?
The incident happened so suddenly that even Foreman Chandler shrank back in fear. Seeing Thea Lynch’s dark expression up close, he didn’t dare to breathe too loudly.
Connor Warren on the opposite side felt the same. A man of science, he had never seen anything like this in his life. He was quite shaken by Thea’s sudden outburst.
Thea normally didn’t seem like someone who would resort to violence. Even when she was angry, she would just be expressionless, at most saying a few words without any profanity. She had never thrown things around before.
It took Foreman Chandler a while to react. Before this, Thea wasn’t really angry; this was the real deal. Her aura was so overwhelming that it left him in awe.
Despite working together for a while, at that moment, he wasn’t sure if Thea would actually hit someone. To be honest, he was a bit scared too, worried that Thea might mistake friend for foe and punch him while she was at it.
Thea Lynch: "Equal exchange, where does the insult come in? Agree if you agree; if not, then go back to where you came from. If negotiations fall through, and you immediately throw a tantrum and explode, who’s spoiling you?"
"Is this your home? Do I look like your mom or dad?"
"..."
Thea gave him a cold sidelong glance and rose to her feet leisurely, "I am a reasonable person. If Foreman Warren wants to reconsider, he’s always welcome to transfer people when ready."
"If you haven’t made up your mind, then say less of such things next time."
She turned around and smiled softly, "It’s easy to get hit."
After Thea pushed the door open and left, Foreman Chandler came back to his senses, grabbed their laptops, and chased after her. He was afraid that if he delayed for even a second, he’d be the next to get hit.
——
Watching the elevator doors close, Foreman Chandler finally exhaled a sigh of relief, as if escaping from a disaster, "Foreman Lynch, you were really... amazing just now!"
He freed up a hand and gave Thea a thumbs-up.
At that moment, the icy aura around Thea had faded, and she had returned to her usual serene manner.
"Honestly, Foreman Lynch, you scared me too. And, by the way, can you take them if it came down to it?" Foreman Chandler asked, curious.
"I can’t." Thea replied without the slightest hesitation.
Foreman Chandler’s mouth twitched, "I thought you were going to take a swing at Connor Warren."
"Why would I do that? No matter whether I can take him down or not, he’s not worth my effort."
"True." Foreman Chandler knew it was because she disdained it, "Connor is just using the project above us as an excuse to bully us."
As they exited the elevator, Foreman Chandler continued, "Our Division One is the Stratus’s R&D default favorite."
He shook his thumb, "All important projects are given to us first, but this time Valiant was too booked, so it went to Division Two. Connor previously wanted to transfer to Division One, but the higher-ups didn’t allow it."
"And he also sees that you’ve just joined Stratus not long ago, and being a young woman, he thinks you’re easy to bully, so he wanted to show off to Division One."
On this note, Foreman Chandler couldn’t help but laugh, "But that guy didn’t expect that there’s no one easy to mess with in our division. And who would have thought a young lady like you turned out to be the toughest nut to crack."
"This time he’s probably losing face and regretting it a lot. But Foreman Lynch, don’t let it get to you. That guy’s stuck-up, thinking he’s the best in the world. He doesn’t even understand the concept of ’there’s always someone better’."
"Just like your new assistant, high and mighty, holding in some kind of grudge."
Back in the office, Foreman Chandler dramatically recounted what had just happened to everyone.
The next day, when Thea returned to the company, she noticed that many people were looking at her with a touch of caution in their eyes.
Previously, they were secretly sizing her up, curious about her background.
There was no need to think twice—she already knew the story from last night’s meeting had spread throughout the company.
Upon learning of this, Foreman Chandler swore that he had only told a few brothers in the office, all of whom got along well with Thea and wouldn’t leak it indiscriminately.
Thea told them not to worry.
She sat down at her desk, turned on her computer, "It’s not really a big deal. With that many people in the meeting room, it was bound to get out eventually."
"This is good. I guess no one will dare mess with me in the future."
During lunch, Thea turned off her equipment and went to the canteen with Foreman Chandler and the others.
After getting her food, she had just sat down when someone occupied the empty seat beside her.
At first, she didn’t pay much attention until a box of cream puffs was pushed over to her.
"..." Thea’s chopsticks paused. She turned her head.
There came Silas Cheney from somewhere, leaning his head on one hand, smiling at her.
With just a glance, Thea calmly looked away and continued picking up her food:
"Here because of the Division Two incident, huh."
She didn’t even ask, certain of his purpose.
Silas’s laughter rumbled in his chest, "Who says that? I saw the old brand store had some new products on my way to the company, so I brought a box for you."
Seeing she ignored him, Silas sighed, "Fine, fine, it’s about that matter."
"I heard you hit someone yesterday?" It wasn’t an accusatory tone but rather sounded schadenfreude.
Thea frowned slightly, "Where did you hear such gossip?"
"That’s what everyone’s saying."
"No. Do I seem like the kind of person who would hit someone?"
Silas didn’t dare comment on that and could only smile.
Back in the day, the same girl who dared to hit Ian Preston wouldn’t hold back her temper if she got upset anywhere else, right? Not likely.
"You didn’t hurt yourself, did you?" Silas asked.
Thea took a deep breath and reiterated, "Really didn’t get into a fight."
"We just exchanged friendly greetings. It was merely normal work interaction. You don’t need to make it a big deal; I can handle it on my own."
Silas seemed to take her word at face value, nodding, "Alright."
——
At the end of the month, Thea specially took a day off to return to Westmere.
Today was her grandmother’s birthday, and after dropping off her gift, Thea went out with her grandfather to buy groceries.
On their return, just as they entered the door, Thea heard laughter coming from the living room.
Her grandmother seemed to be chatting with someone. Was there a guest?
"Who came by?" She changed her shoes and peered inside curiously.
Her grandfather closed the door and answered with certainty, "It should be young Ian, right."
"Who?" The name made Thea instantly alert.
"Young Ian." Her grandfather, unaware of the generation’s events, replied happily, "It’s probably him who came over."
"Ian Preston? Why is he here?" Thea was bewildered.
Her grandfather chuckled as he changed his shoes, "These years, since you haven’t been home, whenever there’s a festival, New Year, or birthday, young Ian would come over to have a meal and chat with your grandma and me. He often sends supplements from Coronet too."
She widened her eyes, "E-every year?"
"Yes. The kid is thoughtful, each time he comes over, he’s never empty-handed. He always prepares two gifts, saying one is his intention as a junior, the other on your behalf."
Thea: "..."
