Supreme Heir Son-in-law-Chapter 1127 - 1126: Poaching
On one side, the two women were huddled together, making him feel like a third wheel, even the waiter couldn’t help but give him a curious look.
Luckily, he was thick-skinned, and the food was good too, so he hypnotized himself into forgetting about those strange looks, shoveling food into his mouth!
"Are you very hungry? If it’s not enough, we can order another serving!"
"Hungry, how could I not be? Since yesterday, I’ve only had one meal, so they say you must choose your boss wisely when working!"
Without lifting his head, Xu Ke didn’t forget to mock Lin Yiran a couple of times. Lin Yiran glared fiercely at this bastard, her face reflecting some embarrassment!
Things came up suddenly yesterday, and she was taken away unexpectedly too. Anyway, her three meals a day were delivered on time, but she truly didn’t think of Xu Ke.
"Since you’re unsatisfied with your work, do you want to try changing your boss?"
Shen Mi showed no reservations, poaching in front of Lin Yiran.
Lin Yiran was taken aback, punched Shen Mi lightly, and said angrily, "You still haven’t given up? What’s so good about him?"
"Complaining about hunger only now, isn’t that his good point?" Shen Mi chuckled, giving a quirky reason.
Xu Ke felt a black line cross his forehead. Seriously, if her standards were that low, wouldn’t a mute be even more convenient?
Lin Yiran was also defeated by Shen Mi’s reasoning. Luckily, Shen Mi was tactful enough not to dwell too much on this topic.
As an observer, Shen Mi could clearly feel that something had changed between these two, though unsaid. She was also happy for Lin Yiran.
As they chatted on, they naturally touched upon the purpose of Lin Yiran’s visit, and to Xu Ke’s surprise, Shen Mi already knew about the theft of cultural relics.
"Who exactly are you? Dressed like a star, how do you know so much?"
Shen Mi giggled, but Lin Yiran replied, "I told you before about the seven major consortia. Besides the Qi family, others we met yesterday, like Old Man Chu and Shen Mi, all belong to the Big Seven!"
"No wonder!" With that, Xu Ke finally understood, realizing this woman had this layer of identity, no wonder she was being targeted.
"It’s nothing much, people mention the Big Seven with envy and resentment, but aren’t we still being hunted down, nearly afraid to go home!"
Shen Mi spoke on her own, and Lin Yiran’s eyes involuntarily dimmed. But Xu Ke acted as if he hadn’t heard anything.
Those wealthy family secrets sound like big trouble. He’s already entangled in enough problems and doesn’t want to get involved in this affair, so he was preparing to steer clear.
Just as he put down his chopsticks and prepared to make a run for it, Shen Mi brushed back her hair with a touch of sorrow, saying, "You’re my friends, there’s nothing I can’t say. Ever since my younger brother died, the Shen Family has been a battleground every day!"
"Stop, can I not listen?"
Xu Ke looked dismayed, instantly extending his hand in front of him, with a melancholy face.
"Of course not, when a beauty finally opens her heart, how can a man be so undignified?"
Lin Yiran also glared at Xu Ke, reaching out to hold Shen Mi’s hand, and said softly, "Although I can’t help much, if there’s anything troubling you, you can tell me, I can at least be a listener!"
Xu Ke rolled his eyes and had to sit back down, feeling awkward to leave at that moment.
Shen Mi started speaking slowly. It turns out, the Shen family had reached its current generation, leaving just one child. Her fourth brother, who was assigned the heavy duty of inheriting the family business since birth, died half a year ago.
Their parents were already at an advanced age, unable to have more children, pushing the older three sisters to the forefront.
Shen Mi was the third child, with two older sisters already in key positions in the company for years. But oddly enough, the elders favored her, the idle one, excessively.
Though she had no such intentions, sometimes, for some people, their very existence is a thorn stuck in the throat of others.
"Your family is truly loving!"
Xu Ke couldn’t help but interject, but as soon as he spoke, Lin Yiran shot him a harsh look.
Shen Mi, however, didn’t seem to mind, her face showing even more bitterness, as she took a breath before saying, "I’ve tried to run away, but the outcome..."
She didn’t look at Lin Yiran but cast a glance at Xu Ke. Xu Ke didn’t say anything, but he understood what she meant.
"I’ve come to terms, I can’t sever ties with the Shen family, nor can I find an uninhabited island. So, I might as well accept my fate!"
"So what now?" Xu Ke asked calmly. He didn’t simply believe that this woman was just venting to them.
"Since you know Old Man Chu, I want you to introduce me. Internally, I can’t compete with them, so I can only seek external help!"
"Wait a minute! Aren’t you afraid of inviting wolves into the fold?"
"Since it’s already a den of wolves, what difference would one more make?" Shen Mi said nonchalantly.
Upon hearing this, both Xu Ke and Lin Yiran couldn’t help but frown.
With just one sentence, they could hear the danger in her thoughts. Lin Yiran opened her mouth but ultimately said nothing.
In this matter, since she couldn’t help, she didn’t have the right to interfere. She knew Shen Mi better than Xu Ke did, knowing she was not unprepared.
"The exhibition starts tomorrow, with an auction that night, hosted by the Chu family. I’m also invited, and with Old Man Chu’s personality, you’ll definitely get invitations too. Then, I’ll rely on you!"
"You make us sound like pimps! Who knows if we’ll get invitations! Anyway, don’t get your hopes up too high!"
Xu Ke pouted, neither refusing nor promising. After all, he had just tricked the old man, who knew what he thought of him.
The meal had taken on a strange flavor. This was a matter he didn’t want to get involved in, but seeing Lin Yiran, he knew he couldn’t avoid it.
With that in mind, those few tails outside couldn’t just be ignored, and it so happened he had other questions for them.
"You keep eating, I’m going to the bathroom." Putting down his chopsticks, Xu Ke called Park Jiahui.
Since he wasn’t suitable for direct confrontation, and considering that she had nothing better to do, he tasked her with it.
Besides, violence was her second favorite thing. If given a chance to practice, she’d eagerly agree.
As expected, things were arranged accordingly on this end, but trouble arose on the other side.
Because their girlfriends wanted a late-night chat, he ended up paying for another room, making his already thin wallet even slimmer.
"That old bastard from the Chu family, why book such an expensive hotel!"
