Chapter 40: Stealing Another Kiss -1

The next morning, Rivana slowly woke up and found the other side of her bed empty. Lightly lifting her head, she looked around for Azrael and heard the sound of water in the bathroom. With a sigh of relief, she fell back onto the bed and tried to sleep more.

But the memories from last night kept her awake. The way he had pulled her onto the bed and how he had coaxed her to sleep when he was the one more hurt filled her with warmth. A light blush crept onto her cheeks, realizing they had slept together... Shaking her head, she corrected her dirty thoughts—they had slept on the same bed.

Just then, the bathroom door clicked open, and Azrael came out wearing just a tracksuit pant and wiping his hair dry. She immediately pretended to be asleep, feeling flustered and shy. Her heart thudded loudly as she felt him walk towards the bed, closing the gap between them. She felt him leaning over.

"What the heck was he doing?" she internally thought, closing her eyes shut. It was too late to open them now.

Azrael took his phone from the nightstand and called his assistant, asking to "rearrange all the meetings missed last night." Rivana heaved a sigh as he walked away and slowly peeked with one eye.

And what the heck was she doing? She cursed herself for acting so foolishly. She should have just woken up and run out of his room before he came out.

Her thoughts disappeared as her gaze fell on his wide back. He was standing in front of the mirror, drying his hair with the towel. His back was broad and muscular, with defined ridges that made her swallow hard. Her eyes traveled up his spine, taking in the sight of his perfectly sculpted back, like those male leads in dramas.

His shoulders were broad, and she noticed he had all kinds of bruises, a few marks fading while a few were still visible. They made her worry. She couldn’t help but feel guilty for the new wound on the right side that was still bandaged—she was responsible for it.

"Good morning, baby girl," his voice brought Rivana out of her daze. Her cheeks turned beetroot red; he had caught her red-handed, almost drooling at him. When he turned around, his knowing smile made her blush even harder. Oh, if only she could dig a hole and bury herself right now.

Rivana thought, trying to hide her face under the blanket. With much courage, she replied, "Good morning."

"Did you sleep well?" Azrael asked, drying his hair. Tossing the towel aside, he turned around to look at his cute wife.

Rivana’s mouth slightly opened wide at the mesmerizing view in front of her, exactly what her devil side had been hoping to see. She hummed in response, but even if she tried, she couldn’t take her eyes off his body. Her eyes traveled down his broad chest, the alluring dragon tattoo, to his well-defined abs, moving through the ridges and stopping right over the band of his pants. Though she had seen it before once, it felt so alluring that she shamelessly kept staring at his body.

Azrael chuckled at her reaction, as she was making it too evident that she was loving what she was seeing right now. And he was having a hard time controlling himself. All it took were a few strides to close the distance and capture her lips. But no, he needed to take things slow and needed to confirm her feelings for him too.

Just then, a knock on the door interrupted both of their thoughts.

"I need to change the dressing of your wound, sir," the nurse’s voice came from the other side.

"Come in," Azrael ordered, and the nurse opened the door and stepped in. But her eyes went wide as they fell on the enticing man standing in front of her. She gulped, blaming herself for not being professional, but she couldn’t just follow her mind.

Rivana squinted her eyes as the nurse stood by the door, something stirring within her. Quickly, she got down from the bed and stood in front of her husband, trying to block his goddamn show-off with her petite body.

Rivana crossed her arms and questioned the nurse, "Don’t you have a male nurse?"

The nurse came out of her daze and met Rivana’s gaze. Embarrassed, she pursed her lips and shook her head. Even Azrael was surprised by her sudden outburst. A smile escaped his lips as Rivana muttered something under her breath, his eyes fixed on her little frame in front of him.

"Leave the trolley behind. I will do it," Rivana declared, making Azrael press his lips to hold back his chuckle. She was declaring that he was off-limits, and her possessive jealous side was too cute to watch.

"Let the professional handle it," Azrael said, trying to play with her a little.

Rivana turned around and glared at him. "I am a professional too. I learned it during high school," she grumbled, her cheeks slightly red with anger.

The nurse looked worried, and at Azrael’s nod, she quickly moved the trolley towards them. Leaving it, she bowed and walked out, leaving the couple alone.

"Sit down," Rivana ordered, gesturing at the stool in front of the dressing mirror.

With a smile, Azrael followed and sat down. Rivana took the trolley containing all the medical equipment and stood behind him. Her earlier irritation vanished as her eyes fell on the big bandage on his right shoulder.

"You shouldn’t take a shower when you are injured," she scolded, wearing the white gloves. She slowly removed the wet white bandage wrapped around his shoulder, her expression turning to dread.

"It is a minor wound," Azrael murmured but regretted it instantly when Rivana glared at him, her expression visible in the mirror in front of him.

Rivana slowly took away the white cotton that had gotten wet because of his carelessness. The stitches stung her heart, making her feel even sadder. Why the heck did he have to jump in? With a sigh, she took a disinfectant and cleaned the area.

After cleaning the wound and applying the ointment, she took a new cotton pad and placed it on the wound, starting to dress it.

She couldn’t help but tear up again. She hated it. She didn’t understand why, but it had always been the case. During their childhood days, she would cry more than him whenever he was injured, even if it was a minor bruise. And it seemed like some habits didn’t change even after being separated for so long.

Azrael sighed, seeing her expressions in the mirror. He hated to see her shed tears.

Finishing the dressing, Rivana took off her gloves and threw them in the dustbin. He turned around, and his hurt expression only worsened her emotions. "Call George if you need something," she murmured, turning around to leave.

Before she could run away, Azrael grabbed her wrist and pulled her back. Rivana gasped, her heart skipping a beat as he made her sit on his lap, his hand wrapping around her waist and holding her firmly.

"I-I-I need to take a shower," she tried to reason, but Azrael looked at her, his eyes conveying that he wouldn’t leave her until she calmed down.

"It wasn’t your fault, stop crying," Azrael murmured. Realizing there was something else going on in her mind, he asked, "Tell me what’s going on in your mind."

Rivana looked at him, his expression spelling her confession, letting everything bugging her out. "I... I am scared," she confessed, her voice trembling slightly. When Azrael frowned, she continued, "I thought I had gotten a new chance to live for myself, but everyone is hell-bent on destroying me again. They... they are trying so hard to kill me, and I am scared of dying again."

"Do you think I would let that happen?" Azrael grumbled, his voice intimidating.

When Rivana didn’t reply, Azrael sighed out loud, his frustration to kill that bastard increasing. He slowly wiped away her tears, and made her look at him.

"Keep this in mind, Rain. Even if I had to take hundreds of bullets to save you, I would do it without hesitation." When Rivana locked eyes with him, he caressed her cheek and added, "I won’t let anyone take you away from me. Not even your goddamned fate."

A single tear dropped from Rivana’s eyes, this time out of relief. What good deed had she done to have stumbled upon this man? He was giving her everything she had yearned for when she was busy simping over Viktor. Even after marriage, Viktor never cared to be there for her, or treat her the way Azrael was doing, even when she hadn’t asked for it. Her heart swelled with gratitude, feeling lucky to have reconciled with him again.

Azrael wiped away her tears and grumbled, "Stop crying now. You know I hate it."

Rivana nodded with a smile. "Thank you, Ray Ray." she murmured.

Azrael was surprised to hear that nickname. How long had it been since she had called him that? He smiled in response and pinched her nose, making her huff out loud.

"Stop doing that! I am not a kid anymore!" Rivana grumbled, pushing away his hand.

Azrael smirked in response, a devilish plan flashing in his mind. His grip around her waist tightened, causing her to suck in a breath. She looked at him, her eyes widened, and a blush crept onto her cheeks, his intentions clear in his eyes.

Lifting her chin with his finger, Azrael replied, "Let me upgrade it now that you are an adult."

Rivana’s eyes landed on his lips, and she inwardly gulped, feeling butterflies in her stomach. Her heart raced wildly, and she closed her eyes shut as he leaned forward, inching closer to her face.

But just before Azrael could melt her completely, someone barged into the room.

"We have a new problem!" Callum declared worriedly, instantly regretting it. Oops, wrong time again!

When the devil glared at him, his eyes burning with a desire to kill him right then and there, Callum flinched in his spot. God dammit. He would be the one dying in his hands first before that crazy woman at the door wanting to see Rivana.
