A Son For My Billionaire Step-brother-Chapter 21
Olivia’s point of view
"I’ll go get us some drinks. Wait for me here," Daniel said.
I smiled, "Sure, babe."
He kissed me on the forehead before leaving our table. I grabbed the glass and chugged all the champagne like water before wiping my lips, especially since this is stressful.
I thought Gabriel wanted peace between us, but he invited me to his engagement party. If I knew his kindness was weird, I wouldn’t forgive him. But why would I feel upset? I should be happy because finally he is getting married and he will get off my back.
But I can’t. Something inside me was disagreeing with my mind, and that is my heart.
"Olivia! Glad you made it!" Gabriel’s father approached our table. I stood up to get him and my mother. "Gabriel said you will be busy, so we were expecting you."
I chuckled softly, "I am. But this is my step brother’s engagement and I wouldn’t miss it for anything. How are you?"
"I’m fine. Actually, your mother was asking me for another vacation before our wedding. Can you believe it?" He commented.
"Honey! I told you it was a surprise. Why did you tell her?" My mother hit his chest softly and he just chuckled.
I admire their relationship. I just hope Daniel and I will work, especially since I can feel that that is something of going on in me.
"Let me guess, mom. You are planning to kidnap my son again and take him to another vacation," I guessed.
"Well, that’s exactly my plan."
I rolled my eyes and replied, "Why? Gavin was missing so many school activities because of what you did. I have to talk to her teacher or else he will repeat his grade."
"Relax. I told you I already handled it, Olivia. I’m not taking Gavin and leaving you all the responsibilities afterwards, so relax. Besides, I just want you and Daniel to have a vacation. Consider it as your early honeymoon," she explained.
"I appreciate it, mom. But you don’t need to. Daniel and I are good. We don’t need an early honeymoon, or even a vacation. As long as we have each other’s back, we’re good. So don’t kidnap my son. That’s a warning," I answered.
My mother chuckled because she knew I was joking, but I’m also serious about it. She left me a huge problem in my son’s school, and I have to talk with the principal just to make my son take all the tests he missed.
"Dad. Mom." Gabriel’s voice echoed behind them, so they looked around and smiled at him.
He was wearing a dark blue tuxedo with a fairing necktie and a flower brooch. His hair was perfectly combed, and his mesmerizing eyes caught my attention. I swallowed before looking away because I started to feel the heat inside me.
What the hell is happening with me?
"Olivia," he murmured.
I faced him with a four smile and said, "Hey, brother. Congratulations for your engagement. I didn’t know you were engaged with Catherine. Well, I know you are engaged to her but I forgot. Anyway, how is your night?" I changed the topic because I’m getting weird.
Gabriel smiled back, "It was great."
"Really?"
He laughed softly, "Why does this sound like you’re not believing me?"
"Because you’ve been pushing Catherine away, duh."
"Right." He scratched his forehead and sighed, "I don’t like her and I only see her as a friend, but my father had made a deal with her father when we were children. So I have to comply with that ridiculous deal, or else she won’t leave me alone."
"Don’t be upset, son. This is not just a business deal because this is also Catherine’s wish. She has been having a crush on you ever since you were a child, and also her father was my friend. That’s why I think you and Katherine are a perfect match," his father interfered.
Gabriel turned at him and reasoned, "Yeah. You imprisoned me in this marriage."
"No, I didn’t. You just think that."
"Hey, brother-in-law!" Daniel appeared with two glasses of champagne in his hand. He put those down before extending his arm to propose a handshake, and Gabriel accepted it.
Daniel put his hand on my ways after having a handshake with my step brother and took one of the champagne on the table. "Congratulations."
"Thank you."
"You know, Gabriel. Maybe you can convince your sister to marry me."
"Daniel," I shake my head while rolling my eyes with a smile on my lips.
"What? We are already engaged yet you don’t want to discuss the wedding preparations. It makes me think you don’t want to marry me," he commented.
I faced him, "Don’t listen to him."
Gabriel just smiled and focused his eyes on my fiance. "I don’t know how to convince my sister to marry you, but I think it won’t be hard for you to do that." He turned at me and his voice became solemn. "She is kind and not hard to please."
My heart was touched with the words he just said. I don’t know why but I felt the sincerity of his words, even though I’ve been pushing him away ever since.
I averted my eyes, trying to remove that thought in my head because he is getting married. This is what I wanted, so I have to support him. But my heart doesn’t want to. It doesn’t want to cooperate with my mind, and it was telling me not to let him go.
How?
I clear my throat before grabbing the glass with champagne and drinking it all. "Excuse me. I have to go to the bathroom."
Without waiting for the response, I immediately left. Why did I suddenly feel this urge in my heart? Why do I feel defeated instead of happy for him?
Why?
"My gosh!" A voice brought me back to reality and realized that I bumped into someone, and that person was Catherine.
The red wine spilled on her dress, causing me to widen. "I’m sorry, Catherine. I didn’t mean to."
"You didn’t mean to? Where are your eyes at? Don’t you see me, Olivia?" She complained, catching the guests attention.
I look around and notice a few people getting intrigued by the scene before them. "Look, Catherine. I didn’t mean to ruin your dress but I have to go." I walked past her but she yanked my hair, pulling me back and I lost my balance. I fell on the floor.
She takes a glass of wine from the waiter and throws it into my dress. "Let’s see how you feel, Olivia."
I stood up in shock, staring at my ruined dress but it didn’t matter. "I apologize for what I did, Catherine. Isn’t that enough?"
She scoffed, "Do you think it will be enough? It doesn’t mean Gabriel accepted the engagement, he already changed his heart. Do you know where his heart is?"
I shrugged, "I don’t know. Why are you asking me? He is your fiance so why don’t you ask him inside of me?"
"Because it was you!" She exclaimed.
I backfired but didn’t make it obvious. "What the heck are you talking about?"
"I know your secret, Olivia."
"What secret are you talking about? Did you drink so much alcohol?"
"No. But I will kill you!" She attacked me, pulling my hair and I didn’t fight back. We fall on the floor and she keeps pulling my hair, not wanting to let it go.
"Olivia! Catherine!" Gabriel and Daniel arrived at the scene. They immediately separated us, and Gabriel was halting Catherine.
"What is wrong with you, Catherine? Why did you hurt Olivia?" Gabriel questioned.
She pointed at me while having a hard time keeping her balance, so it made me realize that she is drunk. "That woman! Why did you invite that woman? Did you really have to invite her, huh?"
"She is my sister, Catherine. We already thought about this. That’s why I’m expecting you not to make a scene, but you are embarrassing me in front of these important people!" He murmured.
Catherine laughed, "So it’s my fault? It was my fault that I didn’t want that woman to be at my engagement party?!"
"Enough, Catherine!"
"No, Gabriel. You don’t have to get mad at her because she was right. I shouldn’t be here, especially since we don’t have a good relationship." I walk past them without looking at him because I want to leave this place before my tears would drop.
I’m getting emotional for no reason. I hate myself for that, and I’m not in the mood having an argument with the bride to be.
However, I stopped inches away from him and murmured. "Congratulations, Gabriel. I hope you’ll be happy and learn to love her. After all, that’s what I want for you." Before he could answer, I quickly marched out of that place with big steps.
