Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 105—Stolen Crystal
Cole looked at the man with expectant eyes waiting for him to speak.
"Spill it out; there’s no time to waste," Cole said.
"Ohhh, sorry, sorry, boss. Like I said earlier, boss, I have big news."
Now Cole was getting frustrated; he felt like the man was just trying to waste time.
"Okay, boss, what I have to say is that people really did come to the building."
Cole’s pupil dilated as his back unconsciously straightened.
"I was too scared to stay too close to that accursed building, so I stayed quite far away."
"But I could see them with enough clarity. It was the two people that were with that man," the man concluded.
Cole listened to his words keenly, paying attention to everything and trying his best to get the full grasp of the scene.
"They came under the cover of night, and their presence changed something important."
"Something important?" Cole asked.
"Yes, boss, you might not notice this, boss, because you are so strong, but that building causes my scalp to tingle."
Cole still hadn’t gotten what the important change was, but he still maintained himself and tried not to interrupt the report.
"But at that moment, those guys went inside and left. The building changed and became almost normal."
"Despite having a dark appearance and all that, it became less scary."
"Could they have gone to take out their dark crystal?"
"That would actually be the most important logical response."
"If they have taken out the dark crystal, then that place shouldn’t have any anomaly anymore."
"I should go check it."
Despite making the decision to go check it out, Cole was still skeptical. He thought about the two sides of it before deciding.
"Let’s head there," he said to the man.
The man in front of Cole was both scared and respectful at the same time.
He hesitantly stood up on his feet while staring at the bartending woman.
"I really thought we would have a little drink before leaving," the man thought.
Cole noticed his reluctance but still ignored it as he followed behind the leaving man.
Outside the place, Cole looked at the man before giving him some set of instructions in a low voice.
"If you want to keep your head, you better not let anyone see us together."
"Move quite a bit to the front and keep some gaps between us."
The man didn’t refute, only nodding profusely before beginning the journey.
Trailing behind the leading man, Cole approached that scary building again, and in no time, they arrived there.
Just like how Cole observed it the previous time, the building still looked extremely dark and ominous, but now it seemed to be losing that special oppressive feeling.
"Stay here; I am going to take a look inside," Cole said to the man.
"Ohhh okay, boss," the man responded in a fearful voice while creating some distance.
Cole didn’t mind him at all; he just prepared himself and headed towards the building.
Upon entering, he activated the Eyes of Scrutiny, allowing him to see things much more clearly.
He could see familiar dark energy everywhere, but it was weaker, totally weak.
Cole ignored all of those and headed to the room where the dark crystal previously was.
When he got there, Cole observed everything with maximum detail.
The blood that was all over was now dried up and even smelling rotten, producing a very nauseating air.
Cole realized he didn’t really have to head into the room to confirm what he wanted. He just stood outside and with the Eyes of Scrutiny looked at the spot behind the chair.
Just like he expected, there was nothing there. Apart from the blood, the room was now a normal one again.
"They did arrive to take it away uhhh, I wonder where they placed it now."
"We really need to stop these people as soon as possible and save those kids," Cole thought.
Wasting more time there was meaningless, so Cole left the moment he was done.
"Well done, still keep an eye on it for now; it will be over very soon," his eyes gleamed with confidence.
He gave the man some tiny little instructions before turning to leave and return home.
On his way home, Cole tried his best not to think of anything; he just maintained a steady state and moved.
About thirty minutes later, Cole could see the building from a distance away.
"I wonder if Laura is already there," Cole thought while he got closer.
In the blink of an eye, he arrived at the entrance of the building, and in smooth motion, he entered.
Was about heading up the stairs to the room when he suddenly stopped and looked behind him.
"Laura?" He spoke in a low voice.
From a corner down below, Laura’s form gradually appeared as she stepped forward.
"Just keep heading up; I will follow behind you."
Cole could only shake his head in resignation while he turned to proceed up the stairs.
Cole arrived at the entrance to his room and opened it to enter without stopping.
"Welcome back Cole, any new information?" Bryan asked.
"We will speak about that later, but firstly Laura is here," Cole said.
The other two in the room heard him and straightened their position. Cole stepped sideways to enter the room, fully revealing Laura by the entrance.
Cole led her to sit inside the room, and now the group had formed a four-way circle.
"So have you guys thought of what to ask," Laura asked.
Cole was the one to speak up this time as he stared at Laura with a completely serious face.
"Yes, we have; our first question would be—what made you leave the settlement?"
"Like, what was the specific event that led to your escape?"
Hearing their question, Laura looked quite a bit hesitant to respond to it.
But after a while of silence and some ruminating, she finally decided to spill it out.
"It happened on a night about a week ago."
