Sons of a devil-Chapter 81: The return of Eira
Chapter 81 - The return of Eira
The moon loomed full and blood-tinted over the forest. Wind rustled through the broken trees of Aethermoor, carrying with it a strange scent—one that made Eren freeze mid-step.
Leo's eyes narrowed. "That smell... it's not natural."
Selene stood behind Cain, her fingers curled around the pendant at her throat. Her heart thudded heavily in her chest, and her powers stirred uneasily beneath her skin.
Then came the cold.
Not just the chill of wind or night—but a sudden, soul-deep cold, as if the air had forgotten warmth altogether.
And from that cold... came her.
She stepped out from between the trees, her boots silent on the blackened ground. Her hair was a cascade of dark silver now, her skin pale like snow, and her once-bright eyes were void-black, empty but burning. An eerie smile curved her lips.
"Hello, brothers."
Cain's breath hitched. "Eira?"
"No," Eren whispered. "That's not her... not anymore."

"Of course I am," Eira said with false sweetness. "Don't you recognize me?"
Leo instinctively stepped between her and their mother. "You died. You sacrificed yourself for us."
Eira tilted her head, her grin widening into something unholy. "And what did I get in return? Buried. Forgotten. Replaced."
Selene stepped forward cautiously, her voice trembling but brave. "We mourned you, Eira. We loved you."
"You," Eira hissed, her eyes flashing. "You took everything. His love. My place. My family."
Cain's voice cracked as he stepped forward. "Eira, no one took anything from you. You gave your life to save us."
"I gave my life," she snapped, "and he didn't even look back."
She raised her hand, and the air split—a sharp, ringing sound as darkness twisted into a spear in her grip. The brothers instantly shifted, power surging in their veins. Cain ignited in flame. Leo's hands sparked with lightning. Eren's shadow split from his body, moving like a second weapon.
But Selene stepped between them.
"Don't do this," she pleaded. "You're still in there, I know you are."
"I'm something more now," Eira said. "Something stronger. Our father showed me the truth. Love is weakness. Mercy is failure. You made me weak. Now I will make you all fade."
And then, she struck.
The spear flew toward Selene, who barely managed to shield herself in time. Cain roared and launched forward, flame lashing like a whip, but Eira danced through the attack, laughing like a child playing a game. Her darkness collided with Leo's lightning, sending shockwaves that split the earth.
Eren lunged from the shadows, his blades flashing, but Eira was faster—inhumanly fast. She caught his wrist mid-air, twisted it until he screamed, then flung him into a tree with bone-crushing force.
Cain's eyes blazed. "Enough!"
He charged, fire exploding around him like a comet. Eira met him head-on, her power clashing with his, their magic rippling through the forest. Selene tried to help, but her body shook—her earlier burst of power had left her drained.
She fell to her knees, gasping, watching as Eira fought like a possessed beast. Her movements were sharp and cruel—there was no trace of the girl who had once cried in Selene's arms, who had laughed at Leo's dumb jokes or argued with Cain like fire on stone.
She was gone.
And yet... not completely.
Selene closed her eyes and reached—past the cold, past the rage, into the tether of memory. She had touched Eira's soul once. Maybe she could reach it again.
"Eira," she whispered through the chaos, "do you remember the lake? The flowers we picked? The song you hummed in your sleep when you thought no one heard?"
The air stilled for the briefest moment.
Eira froze, just enough for Cain to get a solid strike across her shoulder. She screamed—not just in pain, but in confusion. She staggered back, clutching her head.
"No... no... stop it... I'm not her anymore..."
Selene dragged herself upright. "Yes, you are. Somewhere in there, you're still you. You don't have to do this. He's controlling you."
Eira trembled.
But the moment was brief.
"Too late," she growled, forcing herself back into darkness. "You should have stayed dead, Selene."
And with a final burst of shadow, she vanished—leaving behind nothing but scorched trees and cracked earth.
Cain collapsed beside Selene, his hands shaking. "She's gone. Really gone."
Selene looked up at the sky, her eyes filled with tears.
"No," she whispered. "She's still in there. And I'll bring her back... no matter what it takes."
