Chapter 529: Tasty human

Luo Muchen pulled Qie Xieling up from the ground and looked in the direction the disturbance was coming from. The audience gasped when they saw what was coming. Meanwhile, Master Zi pressed the tip of his tongue on his cheek suppressing a smile. He wanted the creature to attack them earlier but this was perfect.

His two targets were separate from the rest and one of them had a broken arm. There was no way they were going to live. He glanced at the elder who appeared incensed by what they were seeing. This kind of beast, even when the grand King was alive would never be included in the competition yet this Master Zi had the balls to include it.

The ground trembled as the creature the size of a mountain stepped on the trees, splitting them into two. The creature had five heads, each one resembling a Tasmanian devil, with sharp teeth and red eyes. Its head could spit out venom that burned anything it touched. Its body was covered with scales and spikes, and its tail was long and barbed.

Qie Xieling and Luo Muchen exchanged a look the message clearly conveyed in their eyes. There was no need for words.

They knew they had to fight or die. Qie Xieling grabbed his sword and spun it in his hand before it made a sharp shing sound its blade glistening under the sun. Luo Muchen picked up a throwing shield with sharp blades around its circumference. It had probably been dropped by another competitor while in combat. "Let’s finish our conversation after this," said Qie Xieling and Luo Muchen nodded his head. He wanted to do more than finish their conversation but he had to finish this troublesome battle first.

The creature roared and charged at them, its five heads snapping and spitting. Qie Xieling and Luo Muchen dodged and rolled, avoiding the venom and the teeth. They tried to find an opening, a weak spot, but the creature was too fast and too fierce.

The audience was in chaos. Some cheering them on while others wanting to see more blood and gore.

Luo Muchen saw a chance and threw the shield at one of the heads. He pulled at his arm making him suck in a breath of cold air. The shield hit the head slicing part of its face. The head turned and spat venom at Luo Muchen, who barely managed to duck. The venom hit his shield that had bounced back, which melted instantly.

Qie Xieling saw his sweetheart was in danger so he ran to help him. He swung his sword at the head, but it dodged and scratched his arm. Qie Xieling cried out in pain and dropped his sword. The head spat venom at his face, but Luo Muchen pushed him out of the way. He took the full blast of the venom, which hit his chest and stomach. He groaned as he fell to the ground, his body smoking and blistering.

Qie Xieling was horrified. He stumbled to his feet and ran to him. Luo Muchen was barely conscious. He held him in his arms while patting his face gently. "Babe, stay with me... you have to stay awake," he said but Luo Muchen’s eyes remained closed and he seemed out of it. "Shit...," he swore as he took out one of the elixirs given to him by the physician in case of emergencies. After forcing it down Luo Muchen’s throat he looked up at the creature, which was approaching them slowly, savoring its victory.

Qie Xieling felt a surge of rage grab hold of him. He gently lay Luo Muchen’s head down and then got up with his sword in hand.

He ran towards the creature and leapt into the air, aiming for the creature’s tail. He stabbed his sword into the tail, pinning it to the ground. The creature howled and thrashed, trying to shake him off.

He held on, but he knew he couldn’t last long. The dizzying feeling was growing stronger and he was afraid he would throw up. He looked for another target and saw one of the heads opening its mouth to bite him. With a slight smile, he pulled out his sword from its tail and jumped into the mouth, hoping to kill the beast from the inside. He felt the teeth close around him, and the darkness engulf him.

The crowd gasped and went silent. They thought Qie Xieling was dead. Master Zi sneered openly seeming pleased with himself. Without an heir to the throne, the mercenary clans would be forced to retreat to whatever hole they crawled out of. With a great sense of satisfaction, he leaned back in his seat.

The beast began to slowly move towards Luo Muchen its head drooling. Now that it had a taste of human blood it couldn’t wait to eat the helpless human on the ground.

After it approached him the heads of the beast were arguing about who should eat the unconscious human.

One of the heads growled, pointing at Luo Muchen with its nose. Another head snapped at the first one spitting its venom in dissatisfaction. The third head roared as to quiet them down. The fourth one reached over sniffing the tasty meat on the ground before the third head bumped it making it let out a shrill scream.

They growled at each other like they had come to an agreement. It seemed they had agreed for each to take a lick with their tongues. They wanted to savour the flavour unlike how the fourth head had greedily swallowed up the other human. They approached Luo Muchen slowly, their tongues hanging out.

The first head licked Luo Muchen’s face, expecting to taste blood and sweat. But something suddenly felt wrong.

Inside the beast, Qie Xieling was still alive. While he was being swallowed down he stabbed his blade into the delicate flesh of the throat of the head, making it choke and gag. He then cut his way through the flesh and the bones, until he reached the belly of the beast. He slashed and tore, spilling the guts and the blood. He made a hole in the belly and crawled out covered in gore.
