Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 530: "Am I dying? "
He emerged from the creature, holding his sword. The beast let out a gut-wrenching cry before swaying side to side and falling to the ground with a loud thud raising dust. The audience went wild with excitement but Master Zi wasn’t amused in the slightest. This was his trump card yet Qie Xieling came out of it still breathing. He clenched the armrest until his knuckles turned white.
Qie Xieling staggered out of the belly of the beast. When he saw Luo Muchen still lying on the ground he rushed over. He knelt beside him and checked his pulse. He was alive. "Chen-ge, wake up," he said his blood-stained hand rubbing his chest.
"Lin Lin!" yelled Jolie as she ran over. She had been running the entire way following where there was the most trouble. That was after all the premise of this competition. Qie Xieling and Luo Muchen were being targeted so to find them one just had to look for where there was the largest commotion.
"Where are the others?" he asked and Jolie looked back. They were right behind her before but now there was no one.
"Well, that’s weird," she said only to see a group of men running over huffing and puffing. They were trained in extreme conditions since they could walk but it seemed all that training was nothing when competing with Jolie. She was extremely fast and didn’t even break a sweat.
"There they are. Tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk... they are so slow," she said before staring at Luo Muchen who had obviously passed out.
"How is he doing?" she asked but Qie Xieling didn’t answer. He was clenching his fist his body trembling in anger.
Jolie turned to the beast that was lying on the ground. Its heads were lifeless with their tongues sticking out. "This thing should at least be worth twenty tokens but there isn’t even a single one. Tsk, it seems that it was only sent to kill you," she said as the men arrived while breathing heavily.
While the physician was tending to Luo Muchen the gong signally the ending of the competition echoed through the arena.
Qie Xieling gritted his teeth as he got up. "Give me all the tokens," he said and one of the mercenaries handed them all over. Even Jolie emptied her pockets. She had even robbed the Lee disciples and Bi disciples without them knowing thus she had a bounty of tokens.
Qie Xieling received everyone’s tokens and then walked over to Jolie to get the ones she had. Jolie first handed him ten tokens. Thinking that was all the tokens he turned to leave but Jolie stopped him.
She opened her lapel and took out two more, "Here... that’s it. Oh wait, I... there is more."
Qie Xieling, "..."
Jolie patted her robe and pulled out three tokens from unmentionable places. She even took off her boots and shook them. Five more came out and she handed them to Qie Xieling but Qie Xieling didn’t take it.
"What? You despise me?" she asked and Qie Xieling couldn’t help but retort.
"Just answer me this... where was that token before?"
Jolie placed her hand on her waist and snorted coldly. "Why are you acting grossed out? It was just on my thigh. Last time I gave you my dagger I stored it there," she said and Qie Xieling’s lips twitched.
"Do me a favour and smell your boots," he finally said as he took out a handkerchief and took the tokens from her without touching them.
Jolie mumbled under her breath complaining after being disliked. She dug her nose into the boot with confidence thinking it would smell like roses. She took a whiff and her nose twitched. Her body froze and her eyes instantly turned into two x’s in shock. It was as though her soul had left her body. "AAAAAAAHHHHHHH! It stinks. Am I dying? It’s making my eyes itchy. That’s poison!" she exclaimed after dropping her boot. Her eyes stung so bad that they were watering like she had allergies.
Qie Xieling would have laughed at her if he wasn’t so stressed about Luo Muchen. He knew Luo Muchen would be okay but he was worried sick that someone would try and hurt him again. "Take care of him and I will take care of the rest," he said as the arena went back to normal like at the beginning of the competition.
The groups gathered around near the front of the arena where the Masters of the major families were sitting.
Master Zi stood up and walked over to the podium. In a loud sonorous voice that echoed through the arena, he said, "Present your tokens," his hate-filled gaze set on Qie Xieling who was also glaring at him.
Bi Yize was the first to step forward and placed his tokens that were counted. One after the other the disciples came forward and placed their tokens down. Another old man was writing down the numbers on the side with a serious expression. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
When it was Qie Xieling’s turn the old man’s brows knitted slightly. This young man had a big loot. Just when he thought he was done the young man poured out more tokens. He looked up and asked in a shaky voice that matched his age.
"Is that all?" he asked and Qie Xieling took out a handkerchief pouring out the rest of the tokens.
"That’s all," he said and the old man looked at the small hill of tokens on the table. He thought it was cheating but all the large families did that. They used the other disciples only to collect tokens and then give all of them to the heir or the top disciple.
"Very well," he said before someone started counting them. Qie Xieling stepped back and soon a servant stood beside Master Zi and whispered something.
Master Zi snorted silently while glaring at Qie Xieling. Of course, Qie Xieling had the most tokens. For once he regretted changing the rules otherwise how could this ger get so many tokens? He cleared his throat his hand clutching the podium tightly.
"Ten champions will proceed to the next round. Old Master Wang announce the names," he said and the old shaky man got up and began calling out names from the bottom.
