Chapter 147: ... your master’s loyal dog...

Qie Xieling wasn’t too surprised about the portal. This was, after all, a template of his dad’s game, so he was used to it.

By the fourth portal, they were more than halfway up the mountain. When Qie Xieling stepped out, it was a little chilly. Yunning pulled down her hood while casting a spell to keep herself warm. As a Ragnar, Boran didn’t even need something to keep himself warm. He could walk around shirtless, and his iron muscles would feel nothing.

Qie Xieling, on the other hand, wasn’t so fortunate. He was extremely cold and coupled with the fact that his body hadn’t fully healed, he couldn’t use his magic abilities to their fullest extent. He created a calming flame that was floating around him, keeping him warm.

Yunning looked back and said, "You should conserve your energy because I still need you to sense whether this is his lair or not."

Qie Xieling could give a rat’s arse what she thought. He wasn’t about to get frost bites because of this. As they reached the top, the wind was especially violent, carrying a biting chill that could cut through the skin.

When they approached a cave opening, Yunning turned towards him and said, "You can check here first."

Qie Xieling didn’t like being bossed around by Yunning, but he still walked forward. He sifted through Eling’s memories and found that he could use a detection spell to detect the presence of a dragon in the crevices of this mountain.

The spell was both divination and ritualistic, and it was also a range of self, so he had to cast it on himself for it to work. He chanted some mystic words as he performed a specific hand gesture.

This spell was meant to help him sense the presence of magic within thirty feet. Qie Xieling wasn’t surprised when he realised that there was Nystul’s magic aura masking the true presence of a creature.

He was about to cut his hand and use his blood in the spell to find a dragon specifically when Yunning angrily said, "If I could find him by using detect magic, why would I come to find you? You are so ridiculous."

Qie Xieling hadn’t expected to be criticised before going far. He ignored her as he pulled out a dagger from his bag of holdings. He was a little scared, but with no other choice, he cut across his palm, and blood slowly seeped through his skin.

His expression the entire time was like that of a person who was facing death. Yunning couldn’t help but turn to Boran, asking, "Was he always like this? As a powerful sorcerer, I thought he would be less... squirmish."

Boran couldn’t respond for a while. Eling was never afraid of pain or blood. Whenever he performed blood magic, he could cut across his palm with a straight face like he felt nothing. Now he was closing his eyes tightly, his hands trembling. "No... he wasn’t always like this," he replied.

Qie Xieling began to chant again, and as he performed the hand gesture, the blood droplets from his hand floated upwards, defying gravity before dissipating.

Qie Xieling’s eyes shone bright with blue light, and he could finally sense what lay within the mountain. It wasn’t only a dragon, but there were several other creatures moving around the caves. He could see their aura clearly, and they were meant to protect the dragon lying dormant.

He retracted his gaze and removed the snow on top of a boulder before saying, "Well, there is a dragon in there. I just don’t know if it’s him. You can go ahead."

Boran who was already walking through the mouth of the cave, turned back sharply before saying, "Arent you coming in with us? You created this mess, so you should fix it."

Qie Xieling sneered as he took out some peanuts that he had packed from the underground palace. He wasn’t taking any chances and ransacked that pantry.

"Didn’t you all say that she is his fiance, so he should let her in with open arms? I am just going to wait for you right here," he said as he poured out the contents of the small bag into his hand.

Yunning didn’t want to deal with him right now. She was more worried about King Luo as she should be, so she snorted coldly before casting a spell to trap him within a small circle.

This meant that he couldn’t break that circle and walk away. To her surprise, Eling didn’t object. He sat there obediently while saying,

"I will see you when you come back. I will be right here," with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

Qie Xieling watched them disappear and the corners of his lips fell. He decided to find out if Leong Jinn was around. If not, then he would find a way to check in with Jolie without alerting the game’s AI system or Leong Jinn.

’Hey, where is your creator?’ he asked, and the AI system that had been lying docile answered,

’My name is not hey. You can call me system 275265285286.’

Qie Xieling, "..."

"Nah, there is no way I am calling yo-,’ he replied internally, only for an explosive sound to draw his attention.

With a loud thud, Boran was thrown out of the cave, followed by Yunning, almost scaring Qie Xieling half to death.

Yunning staggered back to her feet, and Qie Xieling placed one leg over the other while asking, "How is it going?"

Yunning gritted her teeth and entered the cave again. Boran, who couldn’t leave Eling at peace, yelled, "What are you smiling for? You have an ugly ass smile."

Qie Xieling, "..."

With his hand resting on his chest, he gasped while saying, "How rude, sir. You shouldn’t say that to a lady." Boran rolled his eyes before following after Yunning.

Qie Xieling chuckled softly while the system reprimanded him. ’Aren’t you afraid to piss him off? He might push you down the mountain, and if you fall at this height, you will die a miserable death?’

Qie Xieling smirked only to look down at his fingers that suddenly started to tremble. He ignored it at first, thinking it was because he had overspent himself using magic today.

’You didn’t answer my question. Where is your creator?’ he asked again, but the AI system refused to answer him.

’It will be in your best interest to focus on your side mission, not what my master is doing,’ it answered, and Qie Xieling gritted his teeth, wishing he could strangle it.

’Fine, you are your master’s loyal dog and won’t divulge details about him. I get it,’ he said, completely unaware of something creeping behind him underneath the snow. Despite his keen sense as a wizard slash sorcerer, he didn’t notice something was off.
