Return to the Day When My Pregnant Wife Jumped Off the Building-Chapter 435 Special Person_1
Chapter 435: Chapter 435 Special Person_1
Xiao Li carried "Little Whiskers," the newly adopted pet, to the veterinary clinic for a health check, while Xiao Ming and Qingfeng took the elevator upstairs.
As the floor number approached their destination, the smile on his face became more and more strained and forced.
Taking responsibility is easier said than done.
He could brazenly tell others that he’d never deceive his wife, but as he was about to face Jiang Xue herself, he couldn’t help feeling anxious.
He was afraid his wife would be angry, even more afraid that she’d be heartbroken.
"Uncle, I don’t get it, if you truly love Auntie, why would you have feelings for someone else?" Qingfeng suddenly spoke.
Xiao Ming gave him a side glance, "You really don’t get it, or you’re just pretending? That question should be asked by Mingyue. You’re even more of a player than I am, don’t you already know the answer to that question?"
Qingfeng chuckled, "Even if I know the answer, Auntie must know it too, there’s no need for you to worry so much!"
Xiao Ming shook his head, "Understanding the principle doesn’t mean one can follow it.
Humans are not machines or computers, unable to choose who they like or dislike with calm rationality, nor can they control whether they feel sad or upset.
In the end, no matter how many theoretical justifications I find for my actions, none can prove it’s right, let alone negate the existence of betrayal and infidelity."
"Isn’t there anything you can do?"
"Nothing! Such matters must be confessed face to face, promptly and directly, followed by an apology, and then begging for forgiveness. There’s no room for any cunning or indirectness."
"What if Auntie refuses to forgive you no matter what?"
Ding!
The elevator reached the top floor, and Xiao Ming stepped out without answering.
"Daddy’s back!"
As soon as Xiao Ming entered the door, Xiao Zhimeng, hearing the noise, threw down her game controller and ran over.
He picked up the little girl and kissed her cheek, "Did you miss Daddy?"
"Yes! Especially when Mommy is being fierce, I miss Daddy the most."
Xiao Zhimeng, of course, knew who doted on her the most, so she couldn’t wait to tattle on her mom about her misbehavior.
Xiao Ming, amused, gently rubbed her nose, "You little trickster, why was Mommy scolding you? Were you being naughty?"
Xiao Zhimeng twisted her body and pouted, "Daddy, don’t you love Mengmeng anymore?"
"Daddy loves good Mengmeng; naughty ones get spanked."
As they were speaking, a voice suddenly came from the living room, "Mengmeng, come quick, I can’t hold on anymore!"
Xiao Zhimeng suddenly remembered something and began to struggle, "Daddy, put me down quickly, I need to save Sister Xing!"
Xiao Ming, puzzled, let her go, and watched as the little girl sprinted towards the front of the TV, where a pregnant girl was sitting; it was Xing.
Xiao Bing and Sha Lang had already come over.
"Brother!"
"Sir."
One voice was sweet, another bowed respectfully.
With Xiao Bing attending to him and helping him take off his coat, Xiao Ming said to Sha Lang, "Pregnant women need to move around more; you shouldn’t let Xing play games for too long."
"Thank Mr. Xiao for the reminder, I understand."
Xiao Ming nodded. Not seeing his wife around, he asked Xiao Bing, "Where is Xue’er?"
"Madam is in the kitchen." The girl called him brother but stubbornly refused to call Jiang Xue her sister-in-law.
"You’re getting too spoiled. Xue’er is heavily pregnant; how can you let her cook?"
Xiao Ming flicked Xiao Bing’s forehead.
The girl pouted, "Madam received a call about your return and insisted on preparing a soup herself. She’s only been in there a short while, just to check on the heat, of course; I prepared the rest of the food."
"Okay then! I apologize for accusing you unfairly. Qingfeng has a gift for you, ask him for it yourself."
After ruffling Xiao Bing’s head, Xiao Ming went to the kitchen, where, upon opening the door, he saw Jiang Xue standing motionless in front of the stove, her back figure plump and rounded, no longer showing a waistline.
He quietly approached, just about to embrace Jiang Xue from behind when she turned around, startling her.
"You, already a dad, why are you still so mischievous?"
"I’ve always been the biggest mischief-maker in our house; you know that," he said while giggling and holding his wife’s hand, leaning in cheekily, "The baby is hungry and wants to eat..."
His words suddenly stopped, as he noticed Jiang Xue’s eyes were a bit red, as if she had just cried.
"What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" he asked, growing anxious.
Jiang Xue shook her head and smiled, "It’s nothing; I just got a bit of steam in my eyes.
You’ve only been on the road for a few hours; are you tired? Why not take a bath to rest up? Dinner should be ready by the time you’re done."
Her wife’s tone was as tender as ever, but Xiao Ming felt something was off.
"We haven’t seen each other for several days; I want to talk first."
He prepared to pull Jiang Xue outside, but she forcefully withdrew her hand.
"Let’s talk about it tonight; I still need to watch the soup!"
"Xue’er..."
"This soup is tricky; it can’t be left unattended. Can we talk later tonight?"
Jiang Xue’s voice was laden with pleading, and her eyes even showed a bit of panic, as if she was afraid of something.
Xiao Ming was both shocked and baffled, his mind in turmoil, but he could only comply with his wife’s wishes.
"Okay, okay, whenever you want to talk, we’ll talk. There’s no rush," he reassured her.
Jiang Xue lowered her face, "Please leave for now; call Bing to come in and help me."
Xiao Ming watched her intently for a moment, then left the kitchen, asking Xiao Bing, "Has anything happened recently?"
Xiao Bing shook her head, "No, everything’s normal."
Xiao Ming furrowed his brows, "Think carefully. Maybe it’s some unimportant little thing; or has Xue’er met any particular person?"
"A particular person... does Ding Jianwei count?"
"What?"
Xiao Ming turned pale with shock.
