Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 385 - 383: Turning a Bad Hand into a Miracle
"Alright, guys, who do you think will win tonight? The boss or the boss’s wife?"
"Is that even a question? The boss’s wife will definitely win."
"I think the boss will win."
"Do you really think a sober person can win against a drunk one?"
"That makes sense."
"Aaaah! If only I could be there to see it live! I want to watch the boss’s wife win with my own eyes."
Cui Hao said disdainfully, "Ew, your tastes are a little extreme, don’t you think?"
"..."
As they were chatting, a robust voice came from outside. "Where’s the boss’s wife? Has she gone back yet?"
Her voice arrived before she did.
Sun Yufei’s entrance cut their discussion short.
"You’re too late. The boss’s wife just left."
Sun Yufei couldn’t help but yell at the sky, "Boss, you promised you’d have her wait for me! You broke your word!"
"Stop yelling. The boss left, too."
Sun Yufei froze, feeling even more crestfallen. "Wow, you guys are so mean."
Cui Hao, who loved to stir the pot, said, "Yufei, let me tell you, you really missed out. The boss’s wife got drunk and almost did something to the boss..." He gave her a knowing look.
"Boo hoo... what exactly did I miss?" Sun Yufei didn’t want to listen anymore. She channeled her grief and anger into her appetite and went to find something to eat, feeling utterly famished.
Xue Yang finally managed to get Lin Xi into the passenger seat and started to buckle her seatbelt, but the little rascal wouldn’t sit still, wriggling nonstop.
"Don’t move. I’m buckling you in. We’re going home."
As soon as Lin Xi heard Xue Yang was taking her home, she immediately protested. "Home? I don’t want to go home! I want to find Xue Yang!"
"We’re going to *our* home, not your parents’ house."
At that, Lin Xi calmed down and smiled faintly. "Okay, back to our home."
Xue Yang returned to the driver’s seat, already breaking out in a sweat. He glanced at the dazed girl beside him. "You’re not allowed to drink anymore."
After Xue Yang left, Feng Jiajun hung around for a while before heading home himself. Not long after he got back to his rented apartment, Zhang Caide also returned.
As soon as Zhang Caide walked in, he caught the pungent smell of alcohol in the air. Waving a hand in front of his face, he frowned. "Have you been drinking?"
Feng Jiajun, who was sitting on the couch, looked up and asked, "Caide, want a drink?"
"You’re already this drunk, and you still want more?"
"So, are you drinking or not?"
"I’m in!"
During his internship, Zhang Caide had truly felt the hardships of being a corporate drone and had been looking for a chance to drink for a while. Unfortunately, he could never find anyone to join him. Now that Feng Jiajun had suggested it, he wasn’t going to refuse. After all, tomorrow was Saturday. They didn’t have to work and could sleep in as late as they wanted, just like in their school days. They didn’t have to worry about being late or getting their pay docked.
Feng Jiajun pulled a pack of beer from the fridge. He opened a can and handed it to Zhang Caide before opening one for himself.
"Caide, do you believe some people can have luck that’s just heaven-defying?"
"I suppose, but that person definitely isn’t me. I think your luck is pretty good, though."
"I used to think so too, until I met someone else. Then I realized my luck was just me riding on their coattails. A truly lucky person... their existence is just unbelievable."
Zhang Caide gave Feng Jiajun a surprised look. "What’s with you today, Jiajun? Getting all sentimental."
Feng Jiajun tilted his head back and took a swig of beer. "Today... I saw the heiress of the Lin Corporation."
"No wonder you suddenly messaged me today."
"I only found out today that she’s our boss’s wife."
"You mean... she’s Xue Yang’s girlfriend?"
Instead of answering, Feng Jiajun took another long swig of beer.
"..."
Zhang Caide fell silent as well, taking a long drink of his own beer.
The two of them drank in silence.
If it had been anyone else, they might have just been envious, but this was Xue Yang. This was the same guy who, from the first day of college, had become the school’s laughingstock for repeatedly being rejected by the campus belle. But in the end, through his own abilities and heaven-defying luck, he staged a comeback and became a campus legend.
If any of them had been in Xue Yang’s shoes, they probably would have remained a joke for the rest of their lives. Xue Yang, however, flipped the script and made the girl who rejected him the laughingstock.
Before, whenever Xue Yang’s name came up, people would laugh at him, calling him a toad trying to eat swan meat for relentlessly chasing a girl way out of his league. But now? Anyone who heard the story said the same thing: that girl must be kicking herself. She let such a great prospect go. She’ll probably never find another guy as outstanding and dedicated as him.
Xue Yang had truly turned a losing hand into a miraculous win.
The two men kept drinking their beer in silence, not a word passing between them.
Xue Yang finally managed to park the car in the underground garage. He then carried her back to their apartment, where he managed to gently place her on the couch. The whole ordeal had left her clothes and hair in disarray, creating a dangerously tempting sight.
Xue Yang barely dared to look at her.
"No one can make me leave Xue Yang," Lin Xi muttered, even in her drunken stupor. "If anyone tries to make me leave Xue Yang, I’ll hit them."
Xue Yang could only smile helplessly. He comforted her, "Don’t worry, no one will separate us. Just lie here quietly. I’ll go get you some warm milk."
Xue Yang didn’t drink, so he didn’t have any hangover remedies on hand. But there was milk in the fridge, and warming it up would help sober her up.
Xue Yang went to the kitchen and poured the milk into a pot.
Lin Xi woke up groggily. Not seeing Xue Yang, she wobbled to her feet, glanced around, and whispered, "Xue Yang~"
It was dark outside. Not seeing Xue Yang made her panic. After searching around, she finally spotted a busy figure in the kitchen.
Lin Xi immediately headed in that direction.
"Xue Yang~"
"Why are you up? The milk is almost ready, you..."
Before Xue Yang could finish, Lin Xi threw herself into his arms. "Don’t leave me."
"Relax, this is our home. I won’t leave."
Lin Xi clung to his waist tightly. "I’m sorry... I didn’t mean to go back home. I didn’t mean to leave you here all alone. I’ve been studying so hard and trying my best to convince Dad to let us be together."
Xue Yang felt a damp spot spreading on his chest, and his heart ached for her. "I know," he soothed. "I don’t blame you."
He knew Cui Hao’s words must have reminded her of what happened last year. He had tried so hard to act nonchalant in front of her so she wouldn’t worry, but he couldn’t hide the truth after all.
The milk was ready. Holding her with one arm, Xue Yang poured the milk into a cup with the other, then led her back to the sofa. "Here, drink your milk."
Lin Xi obediently finished the milk and flashed an innocent smile. "I’m done."
She even licked her vivid red lips.
"..."
Xue Yang whipped his head away, chanting silently in his mind: She is never, ever allowed to drink again. Never again!
