Reincarnated as the Baron's son: My Infinite Card Upgrade System-Chapter 53: Time Reversal domain
He had gotten what he wanted.
The death of Neuk was successful, leaving behind over 100 soldiers who swore their loyalty to Alaric.
Not a single villager died during the raid, and their homes weren’t destroyed; thus, Alaric made them stay in the Montclair Barony.
With a population of three hundred people, Alaric could barely sort out accommodations for them. Setting up outside camps was the only option.
Compared to the Montclair Barony, which only had a total of 500 people, Neuk was much larger, covering over a thousand.
Thankfully, only the main village was affected during Alaric’s attack, making it only 300 people he needed to cater to. Any more, and it would cause problems.
Kika chose to take on the duty of serving the people food along with the maids and some women in the barony.
While this was happening, Alaric allowed the soldiers a burial somewhere in the barony.
He had the knights gather up the dead bodies of the fallen soldiers and bury them there.
Once done, everyone watched from a distance as Alaric sat there, watching over the ground without saying a word. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"He has been there for over an hour. Are you sure we shouldn’t check up on him?" asked Laura, who stood beside Ava.
"I am... just as confused," Ava replied.
The Alaric she once knew wasn’t the type to care about such things. Burying the dead was something he would always make fun of as a kid.
"It’s... really hard to understand him these days," she added.
"Is that so? As his knight, one would think you knew him better than anyone else. Like a wife who knows her husband."
Ava’s expression changed into that of disgust before giving Laura the side-eye. "Are you trying to insult me? Why would I marry that?"
Laura giggled. "How cute. Now I see why the young master loves to tease you."
"He doesn’t tease me..."
"Well, he does trust you. Even as his summon, I am envious of you."
"Why would a summon be envious of me?" Ava asked, turning her gaze back to Alaric.
"We as summons can tell when our master hates or loves something. When he feels disgust, we can also tell. You... all I can sense from him when he looks at you is respect and trust. Even though he looks at everyone with doubt, you are the only one he doesn’t feel worried about. Quite the lucky girl you are," Laura confessed, her finger on her lips as she curled a smile.
"I find that hard to believe, but there’s no point arguing about that."
"Haha, please don’t feel proud or anything. A master-summon bond is still the strongest kind of bond to exist. With time, I will come to replace you," Laura chuckled a bit.
With a sigh, Ava replied, "If that works for you, I guess."
Right on time, Alaric began to walk towards them.
"Where is Hina?" he asked.
"She is healing the injured!"
Ava and Laura responded together, only to give each other the side-eye right after.
"Okay, tell her to get some rest. Tomorrow, we are heading out to the County," Alaric said as he walked away.
"Heading out?" Ava muttered to herself, her eyes following Alaric as he walked away.
"Can I come with you?!"
Once again, they spoke over one another.
But this time, rather than a disgusted side-eye, Laura smiled and said, "Replacement...." She reminded, and then ran after Alaric.
Watching her, Ava couldn’t help but exhale. Why the hell is this bothering me? Get it together.
...
Inside Alaric’s room,
Laura had turned into a cat and was napping on Alaric’s working table while Alaric was seated there, planning his next move.
Right in front of him was the card he couldn’t afford before.
[Time Reversal Domain]
[Rank: Bronze Rank
Level: 0/10... {35,909 Cp to fully upgrade}]
[Description: This card allows you to open a small domain where you can reverse time to take equipment back to what it once was.
Note: You need a huge amount of mana to maintain the domain, and it can’t be used more than once a day.]
{500,000 Cp to purchase.} {Current Cp: 36,000,000 Cp.}
Staring at the card for a while, Alaric sighed. Something about spending the Cp he had just earned didn’t feel right.
It felt so much like his time back on Earth; after getting his monthly salary, he would immediately pay for his rent and other stuff, leaving him with change and nothing else.
"It is what it is..." he whispered before tapping on the template.
[Congratulations, you have successfully bought the Time Reversal Domain card.]
[Upgrade card is now available.]
[Silver rank (Cost: 35,909)]
He clicked the button.
[Time Reversal Domain has been upgraded to silver.]
[Skill now uses less mana output.]
"Next rank."
[Gold rank (Cost: 300,000 Cp)]
Alaric’s eyes widened a bit. The price definitely went way too high.
’Does this mean I’m supposed to expect a good upgrade skill from this?’
He thought to himself before pressing the button yet again.
[Time Reversal Domain has been upgraded to Gold.]
[Skill can now be used two times a day.]
With a deadpan look on his face, Alaric stared at the card for a while.
He had expected a more advanced skill upgrade, but just as the system once told him, everything was a gamble.
Thus, he gave up on the upgrade and decided to use the skill as it was.
All he needed was to restore the damaged goods back to what they once were. How far back in time he could use it was still a mystery.
So he looked at the half-eaten apple at the side of the table.
’This should do.’
He then grabbed the apple and placed it at the center of his palm.
"Time Domain," he called out, activating the skill.
The moment the skill went active and Alaric could see the red magic circle dancing at the bottom of the apple, he felt a huge pull of mana leave his body.
Barely able to keep his balance, Alaric fell to one knee, using his hand to keep himself from falling completely to the ground.
Even Laura had to wake up from her sleep, her worried expression already giving her away.
"Are you okay, young master?" she asked.
"I’m... fine..." replied Alaric.
That was when he saw it.
Three blue glowing cards, each one picturing important time points for the apple.
One was a seed, one was an unripe apple, and the other was ripe.
Alaric stared at it for a while. The images on the blue cards were self-explanatory; he instantly knew how the Time Reversal Domain card worked.
Picking the card in the middle, which had the image of a ripe apple, Alaric observed as the apple, once bitten, began to grow back until eventually forming into a ripe fruit.
A smile instantly formed on his face. "And that is how you solve a problem."
He stood up, looked at Laura, and petted her. "Let’s just make sure everything goes according to plan."
The initial plan was to deliver the goods to the count and have them there in two days’ time.
Since the goods were destroyed, it reduced to a day. Alaric knew that the journey could not be made; he would be a day late to deliver them to the count.
Of course, the count wasn’t the type to care. By the time Alaric would arrive, he would have killed Erica, and it wasn’t like there was any way for him to deliver the message that fast.
So, he sent Aurora before he attacked Neuk. It would take Aurora two days to reach the county by herself, on the day Erica would be executed.
If Aurora could buy him just one more day, Alaric would deliver the goods on the fourth day, in a way everybody wins.
No risks, no gain.
He was more than ready.
The next day came, and everyone who knew about the warehouse was gathered there.
Hina, Ava, Laura, and even Rashin himself.
Alaric was at the very front, right where the warehouse once was.
He knew this would take a lot more mana from him since the domain would be much larger than the apple he used the night before. Hence why he already had everything ready.
His father’s seal that would grant him permission to cross the borders and even another carriage for him and the people traveling.
"Let’s do this."
Alaric stretched both his arms forward, his eyes closed in concentration as he got ready to activate the skill.
Everyone was watching with genuine expectations. So far, Alaric had been surprising them with different feats; there was no way anyone would want to miss another.
And they were right.
A red light suddenly appeared over the burnt area, its magic oozing out.
Baam!
Alaric had dropped to one knee.
"Alaric!" Rashin yelled, clearly worried as he was about to charge forward when Laura suddenly used her arm to block his path.
"Do not interrupt my master," she said out loud.
’Who is this child?’ That was the first thought that crossed Rashin’s mind.
Right on time, something happened.
One by one, everything began to assemble back to what it once was before the explosion.
