Reincarnated as the Baron's son: My Infinite Card Upgrade System-Chapter 39: Eavesdropping.
Viscount Olsen was finally reading through the contract.
His expression was that of a man who was utterly confused and, at the same time, trying to convince himself it was for the betterment of himself.
When faced with someone who had such an innocent face and a good presentation, it was only normal to have clouded judgment.
"I’ve read the contract. Yet..."
Alaric made sure Olsen noticed how nervous he was, clenching his fist and biting his lower lip.
’Come on...’
Finally, Viscount Olsen spoke, "Very well, I agree to the terms."
Like a flower that was just blooming, Alaric smiled, his face glowing with happiness.
"Once I’ve signed this, I’ll send my messenger to deliver it directly to the Count for approval. It should take a total of five days or so, depending on how busy he is," Olsen informed.
"Oh yes, that will do. Please, don’t let me distract you; sign the contract."
"Right."
Olsen picked up his pen, dipped it in ink, and then signed the contract.
As he kept signing, Alaric could barely hide the evil smile that had been begging to slip out ever since he began talking about the mining ground.
’Fool! I can already smell the money rolling in from exploitation.’ He was high on corruption, his cheeks beet red. ’Ahhh, I love this.’
Ava, who stood at the side, was confused about what her master could have done to cheat the Viscount—not like he told her. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
In her mind, she was simply grateful the troublesome Lord, Alaric Montclair, didn’t make any sudden moves that would make the Viscount hate them.
After a couple of minutes, both the contract for the mining ground and the one for the magical cooler were signed.
With that, Alaric made his way back to his barony in the next two days.
Arriving back, he was immediately met with his mother, who had called him to her room.
"My son, I heard you went to the Viscount’s place? Are you alright? Did he hurt you?" she asked.
Alaric raised his hand a bit, "Erhhh? Yes, I did, but I can assure you not a single hand was laid on me."
"Are you sure? We, the Montclairs, are not exactly other nobles’ favorites," Kika spoke, but with a relieved sigh.
This was the opening chance Alaric was looking for.
"Speaking of that, is there any reason why most of the noble houses don’t like us? We are barely thriving as a society; you’d think they’d just look down on us and not want us exterminated."
Kika was silent for a while. Answering her son’s question would require her to take a step back into her past.
Instead, she smiled, "You’ll find out when the time is right. My son has grown so much, it’s almost hard to believe."
Alaric sat still as his mother’s warm hand cupped his cheeks.
"Nothing makes me prouder than the fact you’re becoming exactly what your father and I envisioned you to be."
"The leader of a crumbling estate?"
"Haha..." Kika giggled. "I guess you can put it that way."
Her response made Alaric smile a bit. "Well, I’m glad you are proud of me. Nothing to fight about that, so keep a bit for when I make us the most successful family in all of Forgeino."
Kika smiled. "My son." She managed to make Alaric rest his head on her thighs, her hand rubbing his hair.
With that, she began to sing for her brave little soldier.

Neuk Barony.
Aurora lay on the roof of the Neuk mansion, her white fluffy ears stretched in such a way she could hear everything that was happening inside the mansion.
As she lay there, she had an apple stick candy in her mouth. She kept sucking it, the juices sometimes dripping onto her already exposed cleavage.
Suddenly—
"What do you mean there’s a road expanding to the Montclairs?!"
That was definitely Neuk’s voice.
She pulled the candy from her mouth so she could listen attentively to whatever they were discussing inside the room.
From the scent, Aurora could tell there were a total of three people inside the room at the time.
"One of our knights went to scout the place, and he said he noticed they were working on a road. He mentioned it was almost finished too, estimated at about a day or two."
Hearing this, Aurora smirked.
"Impossible! Is the government funding them or something? Don’t tell me Lady Meren is getting involved again!" Neuk yelled.
"From what he saw, he claimed they did it all themselves. The people he met working there were the same people who were living in the Montclair residence."
"He is using his own people as slaves? Oh, this is good. I can use this as a way to get leverage over him. Haha. Tell me he’s not going to meet the deadline."
"He already did."
"What?"
"My knight informed me the mining ground was more than ready for trading. All that was left was the road to export them, and that is what the Joke of the Barony is currently doing."
Neuk sighed heavily. "That rotten family always gets on my nerves. Tch, like hell I’ll let that happen. Come, I need you to do something for me."
"What could that be, my lord?" asked the general.
"Send some of our men to the Montclairs, and have them destroy the road. If there is no road, they won’t be able to do any trading. And if they can’t do any trading, they can’t prove the mining ground is more beneficial to them."
Aurora frowned.
’You fat bastard,’ she cursed.
