Chapter 780: Chapter 780: Again And Again

Out of all the developments that Kael would have his mind on, his personal power was the most important.

Realising that his powers may not be as independent as he thought, Kael was sent into occasional states of very hard training and practice.

Using the system, he identified and created many simulations with the sole purpose of developing a power based on conquering that was unique and independent of all forces.

This was challenging and almost akin to creating a paradox.

Since he could complete the Freedom Formula without any outside help, Kael was certain that he would be able to create his own unique thing.

"You’re still so young, you should relax and take a break," Daniella said as she knelt on the ground beside him.

She did not have a straw mat like Kael and her skirt was a bit restrictive of her leg movements so she had to kneel.

She could just create something or float but little things like this were very memorable.

"I’m relaxed," Kael answered.

He was definitely not relaxed. Kael had even almost forgotten what it felt like to be completely relaxed.

He could rest, yes, but he could not relax.

"You’ve been alive for three million years, Daniella, tell me, how does it feel to live so long?

Does it feel weird to see many mortals that you grew up with and grew fond of die?"

Kael was comprehending everything these days and absorbing any knowledge that came to him. Discussions like this were normal.

Daniella blinked, not surprised. Since she had been assigned to act as Kael’s attendant,.their conversations ranged from deep to shallow.

She had tried to make some jokes or lighten the mood but the All-King was mostly serious. He would acknowledge her antics and say something like, ’That’s funny’ but would never laugh.

The best she had gotten from him were sickening smiles or light chuckles when he himself made some dark jokes.

She knew that Kael was not always like this, none of them were what they had originally been.

It was quite melancholic.

"It is what it is," She said and shrugged her shoulders.

She reached up with her right hand to pull on the other gold-rimmed glasses, "Immortality is just like mortality.

We still feel pain, we still feel hate, joy, anger...pleasure.

The only difference is that it doesn’t have an end. It can get insanely boring sometimes..." She chuckled.

Kael was silently waiting for her to continue.

"And you are probably thinking of how some of us have the willingness to go on.

Well, not all of us do.

I myself have reached breaking points where I just wanted to stop existing and rest from all this.

But I ended up retreating to a corner so that I could cry..."

"You cried?" Kael asked.

Daniella nodded, "Yes," And she looked at the All-King, "What, do you think crying is a sign of weakness too?" She jested.

Kael, already being tolerant of Daniella’s constant attempt to brighten the mood in not-so-appelling ways, answered.

"It depends on why you’re crying," Kael said.

"Oh, so there are cries you consider a sign of strength?" Daniella wondered.

Kael shook his head, "No, crying will never be a sign of strength...to me.

But people usually cry either when they feel helpless, or when they feel defeated.

Crying because of the burden of your immortality is not a sign of strength, but I wouldn’t call it a sign of weakness either.

Just a momentary overwhelming cascade of accumulated negative feelings... maybe."

Kael flicked his fingers, dispelling the clump of Conquering Essence in his hand.

"It is," Daniella said and signed.

"You know, I grew up pretty rough to get to the immortal tier. Actually, everyone needs to be hellishly brutal to get something here in Original Heaven.

And during my growth, I made a few friends. I know lions don’t really maintain non-familial relationships but who cares, I liked having friends.

And I guess they liked me too...

Although a few lions tried to ask me to be their consort, I managed to reject them politely and maintain the friendship.

Everyone was focused on becoming an immortal, that was the goal. Without immortality, nothing else we did mattered.

And then, after sixty thousand years of mortal struggle, I became an immortal.

My friends, they weren’t so lucky.

I was the only one.

I spent the next few tens of thousands of years after my evolution watching them try over and over again to become like me.

They failed every single time.

They tried too hard not to harbor any resentment toward me, they really tried.

The friends I had shared eons of memories with started dying eventually. They could not escape the cold grasp of entropy, death, and aging like me.

Every once in a while, I would receive news that one friend or the other had died. Soon, I grew numb to it all.

I guess I can understand why some short-sighted mortals dread mortality.

They probably can’t handle a world where they don’t have anyone to like them or be with them. They fear living on while their family dies off.

They prefer to die with everyone than live forever.

They fear loneliness.

But that’s probably why they are mortals and weak in the first place, no point in dwelling on their ideology.

I took the bold step, I achieved immortality, and I watched my friends and family die.

And to be honest, I would probably do it again and again. I would watch them die millions of times if it meant that I would be immortal.

Loneliness is a small price to pay for the power we immortals have.

Besides, we aren’t even that lonely, other immortals around us have the same base pattern of thinking as we do."

Kael’s lips twitched as he rolled his tongue in his mouth to feel the surface of his metallic golden teeth.

"I... understand," Kael said. He genuinely did.

As someone who had the memories of seven Primordial Lions in his head, it felt like he had lived separate lives, each of them painfully long.

Although he had never tried to relieve all the memories in depth as that would be a time-consuming activity, he still had their core fragments fused with his soul.

The only thing Daniella had that he did not have was experience. Memories could not make up for experience.

"Uriel killed himself," Kael suddenly added, remembering what Gabriel had said.

Daniella sighed, "He did. He was the most frustrated Celestial Lion that anyone had ever seen. So they said.

But Uriel is an example of why immortality should be pursued..."

Daniella straightened her back, causing her breasts to push against her buttoned blouse. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"He lost a lot on his journey to immortality, so he created a clan and a family.

The only way he could die was if someone or something killed him or if he killed himself.

The laws of death and decay had no hold on him.

Cosmically speaking, Uriel was a winner, he could die on his own terms and conditions.

As he pleased.

Whenever he wanted, however he wanted it.

How many have that choice?"
