Chapter 75: Chapter 75: You Never Asked

Director Lu bowed his head to look at the three identification documents in his hand, then looked up at Jiang Cheng.

"You?"

"Translator?"

"Three languages?"

Jiang Cheng nodded to all three questions, showing a smile with eight perfect teeth:

"I actually know relatively few languages, but don’t worry, I’m currently studying a fourth language and planning to take the translation certification exam within the next month."

"Then I’ll have four certificates."

Director Lu’s expression froze: Is this the main point?

Also, are you showing off or showing off?

Director Lu forcefully reined in his urge to comment and spoke more seriously.

"Ms. Jiang Cheng, I know you have a way with words and get your information from some interesting sources, but translation is not something to joke about."

"We used the new equipment without translation as we didn’t find a translator, and the equipment seemed similar, but after today, I know that we can’t skip the translation step."

"Do you understand what I’m saying?"

Director Lu stared at Jiang Cheng, who adopted a slightly serious expression in return.

"Director Lu, translation is both my main field and expertise, please rest assured."

Director Lu didn’t answer, continuing to look at the three certificates.

He didn’t suspect the certificates in his hand were fake, as the consequences of such fraud would be severe nowadays.

But he still felt a bit uneasy.

Beside them, the production supervisor who was eager to return to work saw the conversation stall halfway, and he was really anxious!

"Director, you might as well give it a go. It’s better than us knowing nothing at all."

"All the subsequent orders are lined up. This is delaying production considerably."

Director Lu, pinching the translation certificate, wore a troubled expression.

Jiang Cheng felt the timing was about right and spoke again.

"Director Lu, I translated a new production line for the machinery factory a few days ago, and it’s already been put into production. Why don’t you ask Director Sun?"

In a flash, Director Lu finally understood why Director Sun had said what he did at the night school entrance this morning.

"Why didn’t you say so earlier?"

"Well, you didn’t ask."

Director Lu felt a surge of emotion stuck in his chest, unable to move up or down.

Damn it!

She was right!

"Good!"

"That’s brilliant!"

A cheer suddenly interrupted their conversation, and Sun Aiguo had won.

Sun Aiguo’s face reflected his victory joy mixed with a bit of uncertainty and apprehension about the future.

Jiang Cheng seized the moment and asked, "Sun Aiguo won?"

"He’s a bit physically weak and somewhat undisciplined, but he’s good at complying. It’s best if he gets some regular exercise in his work; after all, playing without decent fitness is tough."

Director Lu’s thoughts followed Jiang Cheng’s words, eventually settling on a position.

"You might as well just say it outright. You’re going in circles."

"Is there really such a position? I honestly don’t know; I just didn’t want to deceive you, so I was telling the truth."

Director Lu gave Jiang Cheng a two-word response, "Yeah right."

He didn’t believe a word she said!

Eventually, Sun Aiguo was assigned to the security department.

With a formal salary, he would need to do morning exercises daily and patrol in groups with strict discipline.

Sun Aiguo wasn’t stupid; he quickly went to register for his new post, racing home afterward to show off his success!

Jiang Cheng didn’t return home; she stayed to help with translating the production line manual.

The production line was imported from Japan.

The technical materials given were chaotic, similar to the last time at the machinery factory, mixed with a lot of irrelevant stuff.

But clearly, the Japanese were a bit more cunning.

In the machinery factory, the non-production line documents were obvious, whereas the Japanese mixed in materials with a seventy percent resemblance.

It meant that all the documents related to the production line needed us to sift through them to find what was truly necessary.

This was also why Director Lu had failed in finding a translator.

After Director Lu finished speaking, he didn’t look at Jiang Cheng and said, "There’s still time to leave now."

"It’s dinner time already?"

Jiang Cheng jokingly walked toward the pile of materials, pulled up a chair, sat down, and looked back at Director Lu, saying, "Make sure to call me for dinner, got to be full to work well!"

Director Lu was taken aback, surprised.

She wasn’t the least bit troubled?

Not a single complaint?

Jiang Cheng suddenly turned around.

"By the way, Director Lu, could you please inform Sun Aiguo once he’s completed his paperwork to let Grandma Shen know I’ll be back late, no need to save dinner for me."

Finishing what she had to say, Jiang Cheng shamelessly asked:

"Director Lu, is there any supper?"

Director Lu rarely showed a slight, barely noticeable smile, saying disdainfully, "This is a food factory! Can we let you go hungry!"

"That’s great, I’ll get started now."

When Jiang Cheng said she’d start, she really did, focusing all her attention on the materials in front of her.

Director Lu and the production supervisor watched from where they were standing for a minute, two minutes...

They instinctively tiptoed away, leaving silently and gently.

As they quietly slipped out of the door, they were greeted by an elderly master of the factory approaching them.

"Director———boo hoo hoo!"

The master’s mouth was covered by Director Lu, his arm held by the production supervisor.

Master worker: ???

Director Lu gestured for quiet and pulled the master aside, speaking softly, "Keep your voice down, why stir up trouble?"

The master pointed to himself, retorting, "Me? Stir up trouble?"

"Yes."

"Me? Who is it that loses a game against the textile factory and comes back making a racket, who? You tell me, who?"

Director Lu snorted coldly.

"Why bother bringing up the past, focus on now and the future! You just watch; I won’t be making a racket this year!"

The master showed a suspicious expression.

There’s something fishy.

However, before he got a chance to inquire, he was dragged to the cafeteria by the director.

"Chef Niu, cook up a couple of good dishes..."

Dinner and supper were arranged.

While Jiang Cheng was focused on translating at the food factory, Sun Aiguo finished his paperwork and ran home.

He delivered Jiang Cheng’s message right away.

Grandma Shen looked at Sun Aiguo, drenched in sweat, and said, "I know."

"Grandma Shen, if you need anything done, just call me! Jiang Cheng is like a sister to me! The only sister!"

"No, Sister Jiang Cheng is my sister!"

"Jiang Cheng is my boss!"

Shen Yue and Li Chunxiang appeared simultaneously, one inside the house and one outside.

Li Chunxiang came over with a bowl of tofu pudding, smilingly placing it on the kitchen table.

"Grandma Shen, I brought some tofu pudding for my Boss Jiang, my mom made it."

"Auntie, I’ll help you with the fire!"

Refusing to be outdone, Shen Yue squeezed in.

Sun Aiguo looked eastward, peering westward.

A sense of crisis climbed up his neck from his back.

"Grandma Shen, I’ll fetch some water for you!"

Sun Aiguo took off with the water bucket, not giving Grandma Shen the chance to reject his help.

The elderly lady tried to decline for quite some time, unable to overrule the enthusiasm of these young folks.

"Alright, you can do it!"

After saying she’d let them help, Grandma Shen stepped back for the first time, experiencing the fervor of others wanting to lend a hand.

At the same time, Uncle Sun, returning from work, saw his young son fetching water.

"Goodness, hasn’t he gotten into something unsavory?"
