Rebirth Immortal-Chapter 79: The Hunter Becomes the Hunted
Chapter 79 - The Hunter Becomes the Hunted
The stolen car sped through the dark city streets, its tires screeching as Qin Hao swerved sharply to avoid a late-night delivery truck. The atmosphere inside the vehicle was tense. Yun Lan clutched the USB drive in her trembling hands, her face pale from shock. Bao Lei kept glancing behind them, his sharp eyes searching for signs of pursuit.
"Did we lose them?" Wu Gang asked, gripping his pistol tightly.
"Not yet," Qin Hao muttered, his gaze flickering to the rearview mirror.
Two black SUVs suddenly appeared in the distance, their headlights cutting through the darkness like the eyes of hungry beasts.
"Damn it! They're still on us," Bao Lei cursed.
"They're fast," Wu Gang said. "They must have trackers on the car."
"We ditch it," Qin Hao decided.
He spotted a construction site ahead, an abandoned high-rise project with steel frameworks and concrete pillars rising into the night sky. Without hesitation, he turned sharply and sped toward it.
"Hold on!"
The car burst through the weak barricades, bouncing over uneven gravel before skidding to a stop near an unfinished stairwell.
"Move!" Qin Hao barked.
They jumped out just as the black SUVs screeched to a stop outside the site. The doors of the pursuing vehicles swung open, and armed men spilled out like shadows in the night.
Gunfire erupted. Bullets whizzed past them, ricocheting off steel beams.
"Up the stairs!" Qin Hao ordered.
They sprinted toward the unfinished structure, darting behind concrete walls as bullets chased them. Bao Lei fired back, taking down two of the gunmen with precise shots.
"Keep moving!" Wu Gang shouted.
Yun Lan struggled to keep up, panting heavily, but she pushed forward, gripping the USB drive tightly as if her life depended on it—which it did.
The higher they climbed, the more dangerous it became. There were no guardrails, only open edges and steel reinforcements. One wrong step and they would plummet to their deaths.
Qin Hao reached the top floor first, scanning the area. The building wasn't complete, but it provided cover.
"They'll follow us up," Bao Lei said.
Qin Hao's mind raced. There was no way down except the way they had come, and their enemies would soon trap them.
"Then we don't let them get that far," he said grimly.
He grabbed a wooden plank lying on the ground and wedged it against the stairwell entrance. It wouldn't hold for long, but it would buy them a few seconds.
A second later, the enemies burst through. The plank shattered as gunmen rushed onto the floor.
Bao Lei and Wu Gang fired first. Two men fell instantly, but the others returned fire. Concrete dust filled the air as bullets chipped away at the unfinished walls.
Qin Hao grabbed a metal rod from the ground and threw it like a spear. It struck a gunman in the chest, sending him sprawling backward.
"We need to get out of here!" Yun Lan cried.
"There's no way down!" Wu Gang shouted back.
Qin Hao's eyes darted to the edge of the building. A crane stood nearby, its steel arm stretching toward a neighboring rooftop. It was a risky jump, but it was their only chance.
"We're jumping!" he yelled.
"Are you insane?!" Bao Lei stared at him.

"Do you have a better idea?" Qin Hao challenged.
Without waiting for an answer, he sprinted toward the edge and leaped.
The world seemed to slow as he soared through the air. For a moment, it felt like he wouldn't make it—but then, his hands grabbed onto the crane's arm. He swung his legs up and pulled himself onto the metal surface.
"Come on!" he called out.
Wu Gang went next. His powerful legs pushed off, and he barely made it, grabbing the crane just in time.
Yun Lan hesitated, fear in her eyes.
"I can't—"
"You have to!" Qin Hao shouted.
Gritting her teeth, she ran and jumped. For a terrifying second, she missed—but Qin Hao grabbed her wrist, pulling her up.
Bao Lei was last. The enemies were closing in, gunfire ringing behind him.
With a deep breath, he ran and jumped.
A bullet grazed his leg mid-air. He cried out but managed to grab the crane with one hand.
"Help!" he gasped.
Qin Hao and Wu Gang rushed forward, grabbing his arms and pulling him up just as another bullet flew past.
They didn't stop. They crawled across the crane's arm to the neighboring building's rooftop.
Once they were across, Qin Hao turned and kicked a lever on the crane. The metal arm shifted, swinging away from the construction site, cutting off the gunmen's path.
"They won't follow us now," he said.
Panting, they collapsed onto the rooftop, their bodies aching from exhaustion.
Yun Lan clutched the USB drive, her hands still shaking. "We can't keep running forever."
"No," Qin Hao agreed. He looked at her, his expression serious. "It's time we go on the offensive."
Bao Lei gritted his teeth, pressing a hand to his bleeding leg. "What's the plan?"
"We find Liu Zhen," Qin Hao said coldly. "And we finish this."
Wu Gang smirked. "Now you're talking."
Yun Lan looked between them, realizing that she wasn't dealing with ordinary men. These weren't just people trying to survive—they were predators, ready to strike back.
For the first time that night, she felt a sliver of hope.
Liu Zhen had sent hunters after them.
But now, the hunters had become the hunted.
