Rebirth: I Will Win Easily in the Apocalypse-Chapter 26 - 16-Call People 2
Chapter 26: 16-Call People 2
When Gu Yanzhi came downstairs after getting clothes, only the young couple Zhong Junfeng, Yin Meng, and Song Zhao were left on the 15th floor.
"Where is everyone?" Gu Yanzhi handed them the clothes and casually asked.
"Uncle Zhang came up and took everyone outside to call for help. Yan Lin went with them."
After tidying up, Uncle Zhang saw everyone gathered on the 15th floor and knew that everyone in the building had woken up. Thinking that the temperature was getting lower and lower, and not knowing how many people might be in trouble, he originally wanted to borrow a gong from Gu Yanlin to shout in other buildings—to save as many as he could. But he didn't expect everyone to be so enthusiastic and all agreed to go out and help.
When Gu Yanlin suggested joining them, Song Zhao did not stop him. Having just graduated from high school, although he was mature and had more experiences than most people, he was still naive and filled with hope and longing for the world, hoping to make his own contribution.
For this kind of non-dangerous activity, Song Zhao saw no need to stop him.
"Thank you, Sister Yan Zhi. We're so grateful." After putting on the down jackets and thermal pants that Gu Yanzhi handed them, the young couple was so moved they were nearly in tears. The harsh cold had almost frozen them solid, and only after a good while in their new clothes did they finally warm up.
Once revived, Zhong Junfeng and Yin Meng decided to join the calling activity below. They had been helped by the people from building 10 and, unable to repay that, hoped to offer their modest help to others.
Gu Yanzhi and Song Zhao went downstairs with them. They didn't want to participate in the activities; they just wanted to see the current situation outside.

Before the severe cold arrived, the water outside had risen to the middle of the 10th floor. Tonight, with the temperature rapidly dropping, the water had turned into a thick layer of ice.
Gu Yanzhi stepped on it, bouncing a few times, releasing a clear, crisp sound, frozen solid.
Gu Yanzhi stood in the corner, listening to the distant noise of shouting, gong sounds, and the clanging of metal basins. The weak light from a flashlight played on the ice surface, intertwining with the reflections from the ice. Gu Yanzhi held Song Zhao's hand, feeling incredibly peaceful and reassured with her significant other by her side.
After standing downstairs for a while, Gu Yanzhi started to feel her body becoming cold and stiff. She took a deep breath, the cold air entering her lungs, making her feel even colder.
"Let's go back," noticing Gu Yanzhi felt cold, Song Zhao tightened his grip on her hand and led her back towards the building.
"Ah, home is more comfortable."
As soon as they entered the house, Gu Yanzhi collapsed on the huge living room sofa. This became her favorite thing to do after being reborn, lying on the sofa like a salted fish, feeling utterly relaxed and comfortable.
The heating was on before they left the house, so now the room was comfortably warm. Gu Yanzhi's body gradually warmed up, and the chill disappeared.
The comfortable temperature made her mind start to blur after lying on the sofa for a while. She had been woken up by the cold before midnight, and now it was already past 3 a.m. As soon as she relaxed, both tiredness and sleepiness surged up.
"Zhizhi, wake up." Gu Yanzhi was dozing off on the sofa, almost asleep when Song Zhao gently woke her up, supporting her while bringing a cup to her lips.
As soon as he entered the house, Song Zhao went to the kitchen to make ginger tea; though they were dressed warmly, they had still been out in the cold for so long, and drinking some ginger tea would help expel the cold and prevent catching a cold.
Song Zhao always remembered Gu Yanzhi's account from their past life: it was on the extremely cold first day, without timely warming up, that Gu Yanzhi fell sick with a high fever that wouldn't subside, and he died while searching for medicine for her.
He didn't care about his own life or death, but in such cold weather, Gu Yanzhi suffering from a high fever without medicine, he couldn't imagine how much she must have suffered.
Although this life was completely different, with timely heating and plenty of medicine prepared, Song Zhao was still worried about Gu Yanzhi's health.
"Have some 'ginger soup' before sleeping."
Holding the cup with Song Zhao's help, Gu Yanzhi drank the ginger soup and continued to doze on the sofa.
When Song Zhao finished tidying up the kitchen and came out, Gu Yanzhi had already fallen into a deep sleep.
Gently, Song Zhao lifted the sleeping person from the sofa and slowly walked back to the bedroom. Gu Yanzhi subconsciously hugged onto Song Zhao and didn't wake up, just snuggled closer and kept sleeping in his arms.
Carefully, Song Zhao placed Gu Yanzhi on the bed, covered her with a thick blanket, and turned on the electric blanket to a suitable temperature. Feeling the comfort and warmth of the bed, Gu Yanzhi smacked her lips as if entering a sweet dreamland.
Song Zhao sat quietly by the bed, watching the face of the person he loved most, feeling a soft warmth deep inside. At that moment, all his worries and concerns vanished.
After who knows how long, hearing the sound of the door opening from the living room, Song Zhao moved his stiff body and walked out of the bedroom.
After gently closing the door, Song Zhao whispered to Gu Yanlin, who was changing shoes at the doorway, "Zhizhi is asleep. There's ginger soup in the kitchen, have some before you sleep."
Remembering how Gu Yanlin had always hated drinking ginger soup since childhood, Song Zhao emphasized in a stronger tone, "You must drink it, don't secretly pour it out."
"Alright, brother-in-law, you should rest early too," Gu Yanlin nodded and replied softly.
"Right, brother-in-law, remember to wake up early tomorrow," just as Song Zhao was about to turn back to his room to rest, Gu Yanlin stopped him.
"Uncle Zhang speculates that the temperature will continue to drop, getting colder. Tomorrow, while everyone hasn't reacted yet, we should go out and gather more firewood and other warming materials. It's the only way we might have a chance to endure." Gu Yanlin paused and continued, "I promised Uncle Zhang I'd go with him tomorrow. I figured we should make our act convincing; if this weather lasts so long, not having firewood wouldn't make sense if we somehow manage to endure it."
"Mm, what time tomorrow?"
"7 am, Uncle Zhang said to leave as early as possible."
"Mm-hmm, I'll set an alarm. It's past 4 now, you should go rest quickly, there aren't many hours to sleep."
Song Zhao couldn't help but admire Uncle Zhang's keenness; this invisible leader of their building was truly well-chosen. Just relying on a few hours' observations to estimate that the temperatures would continue to drop and promptly thinking to gather warming materials showed remarkable foresight and responsiveness.
As they spoke, Gu Yanlin had also finished the ginger soup, and after the strong taste lingered in his mouth, he forcefully gulped down a large glass of water before heading back to his room.
Upon reaching his room, Gu Yanlin also turned on the electric blanket, found his thick blanket to lay on the bed, changed into thick pajamas, and then went to sleep.
