Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time-Chapter 619 - 617: After Three Counts, the Gun Will Fire
"What happened?" H-Man asked anxiously.
He had just come upstairs, barely knocking on the door when he heard gunshots outside. Shocked, he didn’t even bother with Ming Wan’s consultation inside and just bolted downstairs.
Once downstairs, he hesitated, afraid to go out, and stayed in the living room, peering out from behind the window. But unfortunately, like Green Eyes, he couldn’t see anything. After waiting a while, he heard Green Eyes shouting curses.
Looks like the scar-faced man is dead!
Who could it be? The place is so secluded, and few people know about it. Who could have found their way here? Moreover, they managed to take Scar down with just a single shot, quietly.
This person is extremely dangerous! H-Man realized he was standing by the window in the well-lit area, where he could easily be shot dead. The thought scared him, so he ran out in a panic, seeking safety with Green Eyes.
Green Eyes glanced at H-Man, calmly said, "Scar is dead."
"Huh?" H-Man was dazed, looking at Green Eyes with increased nervousness.
The two walked a lap outside, finding nothing, mainly because it was too dark. Trees were everywhere, their leaves rustling, completely affecting their vision and hearing.
"Let’s go back," H-Man suggested, pointing to the lit window on the second floor. "They’re still up there."
Green Eyes paused and asked, "Are they okay?"
H-Man recalled Ming Wan’s voice when he rushed down and said, "They’re fine, they’re locked inside."
Green Eyes considered it, nodded, and led the way back inside, with H-Man following closely.
Once they entered the house and the door was closed, Wan Chu didn’t make a move, still quietly leaning against the tree trunk. After waiting a while longer, sure enough, Green Eyes opened the door again, coming out to wildly shoot into the dark woods.
Ming Wan, upstairs, felt her heart pound with the gunfire outside, extremely fearful that Wan Chu might be discovered by them. She clenched her hands tightly, praying for Wan Chu’s safety.
Green Eyes fired for a while, cursed again, and then went back inside.
This time, Wan Chu silently slid down from the tree, stealthily moving under the dark cover to the side wall of the house, where she agilely climbed up to the second floor like a monkey, opened the window, and jumped in.
Seeing Wan Chu suddenly appear, Ming Wan’s eyes lit up, and she immediately stood up excitedly to walk towards Wan Chu, hugging her tightly without saying anything.
Feeling her fear and tension, Wan Chu patted her back softly, whispering, "It’s alright now."
After a while, Ming Wan relaxed her tense body, nodded, released Wan Chu, and smiled somewhat sheepishly, "Sorry for letting you see that."
Wan Chu wanted to say something when suddenly they heard the sound of a lock turning at the door. The two exchanged a glance and quickly sat properly. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
The door opened, and Green Eyes stood at the entrance, looking inside to see Wan Chu and Ming Wan holding hands, sitting tightly together, seeming to comfort each other.
It seemed these two women were scared by the earlier gunshots and incident. Truly Eastern women, even when frightened, they were so reserved.
Thinking this, Green Eyes spoke, "You two, come with me."
Wan Chu asked, "Where to?" and then firmly said, "We’re not going out!"
Green Eyes reckoned Wan Chu thought he was going to kick them out, so he softened his tone and explained:
"There was an unexpected incident. For safety’s sake, you two should stay with us; otherwise, I might not be able to protect you."
Was it really for their good, or was it to keep them under surveillance due to suspicion?
Wan Chu’s mind raced, but, no matter what, she couldn’t refuse Green Eyes’ words, as refusal would easily arouse suspicion.
Wan Chu and Ming Wan held hands and followed Green Eyes downstairs.
Seeing them come down, H-Man’s eyes darted around, and he asked, "Are you scared?"
Ming Wan ignored him, while Wan Chu asked, "Who exactly are you? When can you let us leave?"
"We’re protecting you. Didn’t someone block you halfway on your journey today? If it weren’t for us, someone else could have tried to kill you. When it’s safe outside, we’ll send you away."
What a pack of lies!
Wan Chu extracted one piece of information from his words: When it is safe outside.
Apparently, outside was chaotic now, possibly due to fighting over Ming Wan, Tang Seng’s flesh, or using Ming Wan as an excuse to battle each other.
A thought flashed through her mind, but she couldn’t figure it out rationally, so she shelved it.
They ignored H-Man, who tried to strike up conversation several times and eventually fell silent.
The night grew deeper. Wan Chu and Ming Wan leaned on the sofa, both closing their eyes, pretending to sleep or actually sleeping. H-Man squinted, lost in thought, while Green Eyes constantly cradled his gun, nerves on edge.
The four of them spent the night like this until the crisp morning light penetrated through the glass, shining on Wan Chu’s face. She opened her eyes with complete clarity, lacking any grogginess as she quickly surveyed her surroundings.
Green Eyes, clutching his gun, was deeply asleep. H-Man was out cold, and Ming Wan lay on the sofa, seemingly not sleeping soundly.
A thought flashed in Wan Chu’s mind, and she swiftly struck Green Eyes heavily on the neck, causing him to grunt and collapse from sitting onto the floor.
"What happened?" H-Man woke up startled by the commotion, only to see the ominous muzzle of a gun aimed directly at his face, less than a foot away, close enough to feel its icy breath on his skin.
H-Man looked incredulously at Wan Chu holding the gun, "You... It was you last night! You took down Scar? What happened? What did you do to the big guy?"
Wan Chu coldly said, "You’re concerned about too much. After I count to three, shots will ring out, and you’ll stop breathing."
Ming Wan awoke at the noise, quickly becoming alert at the sight, confused by Wan Chu’s coldness in killing this man but saying nothing. She knew in this situation she was merely a burden, without the right to speak.
H-Man’s eyes widened, sweat forming on his forehead. What was happening?
He’d just dozed off, not even sleeping comfortably; how could it come to this!
"1"
"2"
This woman is serious! H-Man finally reacted, collapsing in fright, shouting in panic:
"Stop, stop! You can’t kill me. I... I can tell you who’s trying to hold you captive. I can tell you everything you want to know, just don’t kill me, don’t shoot!"
