Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Settling New and Old Scores

Actually, finding another Pharmacist to counteract Lynn Chester’s Enchanting Fragrance was no less difficult than capturing Lynn Chester herself.

But Zane Stratton didn’t dare say so. He only said, "Yes, I’ll immediately send more people to search."

Silas Coldwell added in a grim tone, "That bastard Jasper Lockwood... First, he stole my projects, and now he’s stealing my woman. I’m going to settle this score with him, new and old debts alike!"

The car was silent.

Chloe Sterling glanced at Jasper Lockwood and suddenly said, "Don’t listen to Silas Coldwell’s nonsense. He only said that because he saw you arrive."

Jasper Lockwood stared straight ahead, a hint of anger on his handsome face. "I know."

"Then... why do you seem angry?"

After a moment’s pause, Jasper Lockwood turned to look at her. "Some bastard is constantly coveting my wife. Shouldn’t I be angry?"

Chloe Sterling: "..."

’So he’s angry at Silas Coldwell.’

They drove the rest of the way in silence. Jasper Lockwood looked away, his gaze deepening as if he were plotting something.

「Back at The Lockwood Residence.」

Chloe Sterling began packing for her trip to the countryside the next day.

She didn’t have much to pack and finished quickly. She then placed her suitcase by the bedroom door to make it easy to grab on her way out in the morning.

Once she was done, she opened her door and stepped out.

Jasper Lockwood was still in the study.

Henry Chamberlain looked astonished. "Second Master, do we really have to do this? What if that Coldwell fellow refuses to leave?"

Jasper Lockwood’s gaze was deep, his thin lips parting slightly. "He’ll leave."

’He believed that Chloe Sterling and Silas Coldwell hadn’t crossed any lines, but it was a fact that they knew each other well. It was also a fact that Silas coveted her, and Chloe wasn’t entirely repulsed by or resistant to him.’

’If Chloe hadn’t married him, perhaps...’

Jasper Lockwood’s face darkened, and he immediately cut off the thought. There was no "perhaps."

’Chloe Sterling was his woman, his wife. That would never change.’

Henry Chamberlain remained worried. "But if this angers him, won’t that be detrimental to us?"

"He angered me first!" Jasper Lockwood said coldly. "What? Are you trying to tell me how to do my job now?"

"I wouldn’t dare!" Henry Chamberlain said no more, bowing his head. "I’ll go make the arrangements right away."

Just as Chloe Sterling reached the study and was about to knock, the door suddenly opened. Henry Chamberlain appeared in the doorway. He was startled for a moment before smiling. "Madam."

"Is the Second Master inside?" Chloe Sterling asked.

"Yes, he’s inside." Henry Chamberlain immediately stepped aside. "Madam, please."

Chloe Sterling entered the study. Henry Chamberlain promptly exited, closing the door behind him.

Jasper Lockwood was standing by the French doors, a slight smile playing on his lips. "All packed?"

"Yes, all packed."

"How long will you be gone?"

"About three or four days."

"Be careful. It gets cold in the mountains, so make sure to stay warm."

"I grew up there, don’t worry."

After a moment, Jasper Lockwood suddenly said, "In that case, maybe I should go and see it too. After all, it’s where you grew up."

Chloe Sterling: "...That’s not very convenient. Jean and her baby will be there too."

’She didn’t want to flaunt their relationship in front of Jean Kensington.’

"Alright. Then we’ll go together, just the two of us, next time."

"Okay."

Jasper Lockwood gazed at her exquisite face, then suddenly leaned down and pressed a kiss to her lips. He moved closer to her ear, his voice magnetic and alluring. "Come back soon. I’ll be waiting for you."

A flush of heat spread through Chloe Sterling’s ears, and the tips turned red.

「The next morning.」

A bodyguard drove Chloe Sterling to the apartment building.

Chase Langdon was standing beside a black SUV. Jean Kensington and her baby were already inside the car, waving at her.

"Chloe."

When she approached, Chase Langdon opened the front passenger door. "You can sit up front with me."

"Okay." Chloe Sterling got in, and Chase Langdon returned to the driver’s seat and set off.

The car behind them immediately followed.

After they had driven for a while, Chase Langdon noticed something was off. The car that had dropped Chloe Sterling off was still following them.

"Huh? What’s going on?"

"What’s wrong?"

"What’s wrong?"

Chloe Sterling and Jean Kensington asked in unison.

"Why is the car from the Lockwood Residence still following us?"

Chloe Sterling glanced in the rearview mirror. "They’re bodyguards from the Lockwood Residence. They’re coming with us."

Chase Langdon shot her a sideways glance. "Jasper Lockwood sent bodyguards to follow you? Is he worried about you going back to the countryside, or does he not trust your abilities?"

Chloe Sterling cleared her throat. "We’ll need extra hands in the mountains."

"So this was your idea?"

"Yes."

Chase Langdon said no more and focused on driving.

The drive from Crestfall to Silara Township was a long one, taking about six hours.

Around noon, Chase Langdon pulled into a highway service area. "Let’s take a break and get something to eat here."

They all got out of the car.

The four bodyguards behind them also stopped and got out, but they didn’t approach, keeping their distance.

Jean Kensington carried her baby to the restroom, with Chloe Sterling and Chase Langdon following.

Everywhere they went, people stared, astonished by their good looks.

"Are they celebrities? So beautiful, and so handsome!"

"I don’t think so. I’ve never seen them on TV."

A man quietly raised his phone and snapped a picture of Chloe Sterling. Immediately, a bodyguard in black seized the man’s wrist, his voice icy. "Delete it."

The man played dumb. "Delete what?"

The bodyguard: "The photo!"

The other three bodyguards approached. Faced with the cold, imposing men, the man’s courage failed him. He didn’t dare say another word and quickly deleted the photo.

The onlookers chattered amongst themselves.

"Wow! She even has bodyguards! Is she the pampered young wife of some overbearing CEO?"

"Probably! How impressive. This is the first time I’ve ever seen something like this in real life."

After grabbing a bite to eat and resting for a while at the service area, they set off again, arriving in Silara Township shortly after four in the afternoon.

Chase Langdon slowly brought the car to a stop. "Do you want to stay in town, or head to the foot of the mountain?"

"Is the scenery better at the foot of the mountain?" Jean Kensington asked.

"That’s right. The mountain is forested, and there’s a creek at the base. The scenery is beautiful and the air is fresh, but it’s not as convenient as staying in town."

"Sweetie, do you want to stay at the foot of the mountain?" Jean Kensington asked her baby.

The baby’s eyes lit up, and he nodded immediately. It was clear he wanted to go.

"Chloe, let’s stay at the foot of the mountain, okay?" Jean Kensington suggested.

"Okay," Chloe Sterling said. "Then let’s buy some supplies in town to take with us, and we can head straight up the mountain first thing tomorrow."

"No need. I already brought everything. I had a feeling you might want to stay at the foot of the mountain." Chase Langdon smiled and started driving again.

The bodyguards’ car continued to follow.

「Crestfall. In a certain villa.」

Silas Coldwell shot to his feet, roaring, "What did you just say?"

Zane Stratton said cautiously, "Boss, now isn’t the time to be angry. We should head back to Country E first."

"It must have been Jasper Lockwood," Silas Coldwell said grimly. He paused, then let out a cold laugh. "He talks a big game about trusting her, pretending he doesn’t care, but secretly he’s furious!"

Zane Stratton was speechless.

’Boss, can’t you focus on what’s important?’

’Jasper Lockwood has made a move on one of our headquarters’ key projects. If we don’t handle this immediately, the losses will be catastrophic!’

Silas Coldwell added, "He wants me to leave Crestfall? Fat chance! Even if I go, I’m taking Chloe Sterling with me!"

Zane Stratton: "...Boss, Miss Sterling isn’t in Crestfall. I’m afraid we won’t be able to take her with us."

’Of course, they wouldn’t be able to take her even if she were here. They had never been able to do anything about Chloe Sterling.’

After a moment of thought, Silas Coldwell looked at Zane Stratton and ordered, "Get the car ready. We’re going to the Lockwood Group."

Hearing this, Zane Stratton was utterly astonished. "You’re going to the Lockwood Group?"

Silas Coldwell’s voice was frigid. "What? Are your ears not working?"

Zane Stratton: "Yes, sir. I’ll go get the car right away."
