The Next Day
Evergreen City, Vergino Kingdom
C-Rank Gate
Right at the corner of the city, the red, throbbing portal pulsed with raw energy. This was the C-Rank gate that had appeared in the city a few days before.
It was said that it would take about a week for the energy within a gate to come loose and open up, releasing the monsters from the other world into the kingdom.
Thus, the Hunter Association and the Guild Association always made sure to act as quickly as they could to clear out the monsters before a gate break could occur.
Leading the raid was the Dragon Face Hunter Guild—Evans Rockland, an A-Rank hunter, and six other members of the guild.
Sofia Hemsworth, A-Rank adventurer.
Danny Vina, C-Rank adventurer.
And finally, the famous healer, Rose Red, C-Rank.
Each of them was a leader of their own adventurer guild, except for Rose Red.
Members of their guilds were also present, each one ready to clear the gate.
Basically, the ranking went as follows: Hunters were at the top, with leaders of guilds under them. The leaders of guilds had parties under them, which then led down to individuals being leaders of their own parties or fighting solo.
"Eh? No one said we were going to be this many," Adonis uttered, standing at the side, observing as adventurers moved about, preparing for the raid.
Filo was right beside him, carrying a bag filled with their equipment and resources.
'The gate must be a big issue if they were willing to deploy so many people. Just goes to show how bad the world-building in the novel was. I don't think the writer ever mentioned the rank of the gate to begin with.'
Adonis sighed. 'Well, it doesn't matter. I'm here for two things—one is to recruit my target, and the second is to meet with Evans. Chances of me screwing both up seem low.'
"Pfft, Adonis..." Filo whispered. "Why is everyone standing in groups? Are we supposed to join them?" she asked.
Adonis took a second to look around him, and just as Filo had said, everyone was standing in mini circles, some larger than others.
"They are from different guilds. It's only normal that they stay together to strategize," Adonis replied.
"Eh? They're not from the Dragon Face Guild?" Filo was confused.
"Well, they are. It's kinda like having a different party within a guild..." Adonis paused to look at Filo, and the look on her face hinted that she was about to explode.
He chuckled a bit, then placed his hand on her head. "Don't think too much about it. If I end up becoming a hunter, you'll understand once I open my hunter guild."
Filo blushed, allowing herself to enjoy Adonis's hand on her head.
Suddenly, the murmurs from the adventurers began to increase as they started gathering together.
"Oh? I guess he's here." Adonis smiled, focusing his gaze on the very front.
Standing before the gate, with his back to it, was the guild leader of Dragon Face—Evans Rockland.
He had long red hair and held a long spear, which he rested on his back.
Right beside him was the assistant guild leader, Sofia Hemsworth, the leader of her own guild, Leakers.
Everyone began moving closer. They knew Evans was about to address them.
"Good evening, people of Evergreen. As you all know, we were contacted yesterday by the Hunter Association about a C-Rank gate appearing in the central square. It's been about four days since then. It took me a while to contact your leaders to put together a team, and here we are," Evans spoke.
While he was relaying the information, Adonis couldn't help but scan the surroundings, searching for the one person he was looking for.
Evans' voice continued to echo, "From the information I got from the association, the mana readings have been spiking with every passing day. In which case, we should not be surprised if this ends up turning into an A-Rank gate."
The people gasped.
An A-Rank gate was practically suicide if they were going to raid it without having any S-Rank hunters with them.
"But I ask that you not be afraid. All the current S-Ranks are busy with the Demon Lord at the moment. This is all we can afford. As long as you stick close in groups, I assure you, we will make it out alive," Evans tried to motivate them.
Of course, they all bought it. He was one of the most famous hunters in the entire kingdom. There was no way he would say something he didn't mean.
One by one, the people gave out battle cries, more than ready to storm through the gate and defeat whatever enemies they might face.
'Evans Rockland. In the novel, he is quite skilled as a fighter. Not only that, but since he is a hunter, he also has a divine blessing he calls The Warrior's Heart. This divine blessing allows him to increase the power of anyone close to him, regardless of how weak they are. Works far better than any normal booster.'
Adonis frowned a bit. But that didn't stop him from dying. Which means... the same might happen here.
"Good. I can see we're all ready. Let's get a move on! For the kingdom!" Evans raised his spear to the sky.
"For the kingdom!" the people chanted back.
Evans turned around. Without saying a word, he walked through the gate, his entire body disappearing out of sight.
As he walked through, Sofia followed, and then the rest did the same. One by one, their bodies disappeared into the portal.
"Let's go, Adonis! I want to know what a gate looks like," Filo said with a smile.
"Just stay close to me. We don't know what to expect in there," Adonis said to her. 'You can blame the author for that.'
Just as Rashin was about to walk through the gate, a lady with her face covered under a cloak walked past him and entered first.
