Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 56 Warmth Sublimated (2)_1
Chapter 56: Chapter 56 Warmth Sublimated (2)_1
At their wedding, she had the nerve to curse them with "may you be childless." How could her heart easily forget the pain? Wish them well? Not in a million years!
Julia Bluen had just hung up when her phone trilled again with the "Pleasant Goat, Pretty Goat... Big Big Wolf, Red Wolf..." theme song. It was Dio Powell calling.
A flicker of annoyance crossed Julia Bluen’s face, but she answered the call nonetheless.
"Miss Julia, I know it’s our Diana who wronged you. She knew Nicholas Coldwell was your boyfriend and still snatched him away, but you can’t put all the blame on us—it was Nicholas’s own choice. Miss Julia, I’m begging you, please ask Mr. Glades Horne not to cut off business dealings with our Cosmos Group, okay? Business is tough these days. Miss Julia, I’m truly begging you. You’re a good person; I don’t think you want to see the company you’ve worked at for three years go under, do you? Or see over one thousand colleagues lose their jobs? Please, plead with your brother-in-law for us, have mercy on us..."
Dio Powell humbled himself on the phone, pleading ceaselessly.
In truth, even if Cosmos Group’s business dealings with Valence Group were severed, it wouldn’t lead to their collapse. After all, it was a company of considerable scale and still possessed substantial strength. It was just that ending the partnership with Valence Group meant losing more than just profits; it meant losing connections too.
Once this news got out, those in the Shopping Mall were all weathercocks. Seeing Valence Group abruptly cut off its partnership with Cosmos Group, they would likely kick them while they were down. With competition so fierce these days, one less company in the running meant more profit for the others.
"I’m sorry, I can’t help you with this," Julia Bluen coldly refused Dio Powell’s plea, hung up once again, and then blocked Cosmos Group’s company number.
Diana Powell knew full well that Nicholas Coldwell was her boyfriend and still deliberately seduced him, snatching him away. Those who steal someone’s love deserve to be punished. The best way to punish Diana Powell is to bankrupt the Powell Family and have Nicholas Coldwell leave her.
"I’d be thrilled to see your company go under, yet you still dare to call and ask me to intercede for you? Dream on! I’m not some pushover you can toy with as you please," Julia Bluen muttered resentfully as she put her phone away.
That day, when she endured Nicholas Coldwell’s taunts in front of so many people, when he claimed she was destroying his wedding because her obsessive love for him was unrequited, why didn’t anyone pity her? They just let Nicholas Coldwell trample all over her.
Her mood had actually been improving over the past few days. After the shift in her relationship with Glades Horne, and thanks to his unwavering care, she had already begun to move on from that fruitless romance. Who knew Dio Powell would call and annoy her, dredging up painful memories like that?
Not entirely their fault? Knowing full well he had a girlfriend, yet still using wealth and status to lure him away—and it’s still not their fault? Of course, Nicholas Coldwell was the most despicable! That shameless man! Betraying her and then daring to take his anger out on her good friend.
She should also get her dad to use some tactics against Cosmos Group, let them face an attack from all sides.
After muttering in irritation, Julia Bluen looked up to see Glades Horne gazing at her intently. His eyes were slightly curved, as if he were smiling, though his lips bore no smile. His expression seemed a mixture of admiration and amusement—or perhaps it was just peculiar.
"What’s wrong? Haven’t you heard me curse before?" Julia Bluen chuckled.
"This side of you is quite spicy," Glades Horne commented, stroking his chin and smiling faintly as he watched her.
Spicy? Julia mused. Everyone has a spicy side. Who allows themselves to be bullied forever? Even a cornered rabbit will bite, and she was certainly not one to be trifled with. Given the Powell Family’s utter shamelessness, her cursing them out was perfectly normal.
"Too pungent for you?" Julia Bluen huffed, pulling him closer and glaring. "If I’m too spicy, you can always return me."
Glades Horne chuckled deeply. The hand that had been stroking his chin now ruffled Julia Bluen’s short hair, earning him a small, displeased glare.
"I’ve already boarded this pirate ship; there’s no getting off now," he thought. She wants me to ’return’ her? Not in this lifetime.
Hearing his jest, Julia Bluen glared at him. After a moment, she suddenly flashed him a smile. Seeing her smile, his eyebrows twitched, likely in confusion.
Indeed, he mused. One moment she was fuming, and the next, she was smiling at him. He had every right to be puzzled.
Unexpectedly, she acted like one of the guys, reaching out to pat his firm chest a few times—not too gently, not too hard. Her smile vanished, and with a serious expression on her delicate oval face, she declared, "You’re the loyal one, a true buddy!"
What on earth was that about? It didn’t connect at all.
But when he heard Julia Bluen’s final words, "a true buddy," dark lines seemed to cross Glades Horne’s handsome face.
Patience! he told himself. The wedding isn’t far off, anyway.
"I wouldn’t mind if you called me ’buddy’ again in the future," Glades Horne’s voice was exceptionally husky.
He pressed down on Julia Bluen’s body, not letting go. Julia, keenly sensing the change in him, blushed slightly, a trace of panic flickering in her eyes.
"You just love to bully people," Julia Bluen grumbled.
Glades Horne’s gaze intensified. He smiled faintly, but the smile was dangerous. "My dear wife."
Hearing those three words, Julia Bluen knew what he was about to say and promptly waved the white flag in surrender. "I am but a weak and fragile woman; I cannot compete with you, Your Highness. Please, show some mercy!"
