Undead Evolution: From Trash To Divine-Chapter 40: Sacrifice! and Sacrificial Points
A faint hiss reverberated in the surroundings as the blood pouring out from the boar’s headless corpse seeped deeper into the earth, filling the cracks and displacing the air. A gust of wind blew, rustling the large canopy of iron trees overhead, carrying the pungent stench far into the distance.
Even though Lukas had been cautious in his actions, the hem of his shirt was still singed by the crimson blood. However, right now he didn’t pay any attention to it at all. His entire focus was on the floating window, a contemplative expression on his face.
Learn Blood Sense, or sacrifice...?
The choice wasn’t easy. This time there was no window explaining the effect of the talent, but still Lukas could make an intelligent guess.
"Bloodthirsty Boars are known to be star monsters with an extremely keen sense of strength, choosing only those creatures to hunt with strength lower than their own..."
Lukas muttered out loud as he went through all the information he had about Bloodthirsty Boars.
Thinking up to this point, his brows couldn’t help but scrunch together in a frown. It would be a complete lie to say he didn’t want such a talent.
Although Bloodthirsty Boars themselves were not particularly strong creatures, the talent they possessed was highly desirable. With the help of Blood Sense, he could know whether an enemy was worth fighting or not.
As he contemplated, the surrounding airflow suddenly changed. For a moment, the long grey rustling leaves came to a sudden halt.
Lukas noticed this change and his expression shifted. I can’t stay here! Although he felt no presence of a nearby monster, this was a clear sign for him to get moving. Staying at one place in such a dangerous environment was the same as suicide.
With that thought in mind, he started moving. It was only when he was hundreds of meters away from his original location that his focus finally returned to the matter at hand.
There are still many things I don’t know about just how sacrifice truly works. It’s important that I understand such an important ability fast...
If he drooled over every talent, at this rate he might not make any real progress at all.
With that thought in mind, the look on his face hardened.
So without wasting any more time, he chose to sacrifice the Blood Sense talent.
Immediately after he made his choice, the blue screen rippled, getting replaced by another blue window.
[Rare‑grade talent Blood Sense sacrificed! You have gained two sacrifice points!]
[Note – Using these sacrifice points on already existing skills could allow them to evolve to a higher grade.]
This is more complicated than I thought... Lukas’s lips thinned. He was expecting a one-click upgrade. Thinking up to this point another thought popped up in his head—how could upgrading a talent be so easy? The very fact that he could upgrade them at all was already an achievement in itself. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
If the news of him being able to upgrade talents were to spread, the commotion it would generate would be terrifying.
This was also the reason why he wanted to stay low-key, but sometimes he just couldn’t stop himself.
After all, there had to be some boundaries that others could not cross.
While he was thinking, his gaze wandered to the status window.

Sacrifice Points – 2]
"..hmm interesting"
To make things simple, a new item had appeared on the status window. The additional plus symbols also didn’t go unnoticed. Lukas was sure this symbol didn’t exist when he didn’t have any sacrifice points.
Lukas might not be some heaven-defying genius, but it didn’t take long for him to figure out exactly what he needed to do next.
Hmm... although I wanted to see just exactly how much star energy would be rebated if I upgraded Cycle of Slaughter, in this dangerous forest ensuring my survival is the utmost priority...
Lukas, after contemplating for a moment, made a snap decision. Although if more star energy were rebated with Cycle of Slaughter he would become an unstoppable machine, the number of monsters that could easily kill him was still very high. So first, he needed to increase his survivability.
With all those thoughts in mind, he clicked on the plus symbol behind Traceless Steps.
Lukas waited patiently. He wasn’t exactly sure what to expect.
Moments passed. Nothing happened.
Thinking maybe he hadn’t touched the symbol properly, he was about to press the plus sign again when new words appeared.
[Error! Sacrifice points are not enough! Please gather at least five sacrifice points to list out all the evolution paths the skill can take.]
Lukas wasn’t exactly disappointed. Instead, he had been expecting something like this to happen. After all, he was one of those people who could rarely get things done in one try.
The next moment he once again fell into silent contemplation.
I didn’t learn the Blood Sense talent, so there’s still a chance of it appearing again. The Bloodthirsty Boars’ territory is not that far away. Maybe I can try farming sacrifice points there.
Slowly, a small plan had already formed in his mind.
Like most star monsters, Bloodthirsty Boars were also territorial. Once he reached their area, gathering five points would be an easy job.
...
The Iron Tree Forest was massive, divided into three layers. The first layer alone stretched for three hundred kilometers—a space large enough to inhabit and allow thousands of star monster species to fight among themselves.
One such star monster were the Bloodthirsty Boars, a notorious low-level monster known for killing anything that was not their kin, using their large blood-soaked tusks to absorb the blood of their prey.
Lukas stood on the branch of one large iron tree, searching for Bloodthirsty Boars.
After all, this was still the period of the monster horde, so finding one didn’t take long.
In the distance, one Bloodthirsty Boar lay silently yawning, probably having just finished its meal, completely unaware of the fact that it was about to become someone else’s.
