The Lady's Butler: I Reincarnated To Serve The Villainess-Chapter 45: The Academy’s Test
"You don’t seem worried,"Evelina, the academy’s headmistress, stated as she looked at Renelle.
"He’ll be fine," Renelle answered without a change in her expression, "after all, he’s strong."
"Oh my, you trust in you butler that much," the headmistress said in a teasing tone, but Renelle ignored it, keeping her eyes forward.
They were currently in one of the Academy’s private training halls for one simple reason, Adrian had to prove that he deserved to be admitted into the academy.
Especially since the letter recommended he be put directly in Renelle’s class.
It was more accurate to call this an arena than a training hall, the seating were arranged in a circular tiered manner and in the center was a large open training ground.
It looked empty at first, but there were multiple small magic tools, shaped like modern spotlights arranged around and a bit above it.
This was where the actual magic happened.... literally.
They were illusion based magic tools, used to create whatever environment or opponent the examiner desired.
With a single activation, the empty arena could transform into a burning wasteland, a dense forest, a frozen tundra, or even a battlefield swarming with beasts.
The realism was near perfect, down to the pressure in the air and even the feel of whatever attack was launched.
"Adaptive illusion constructs," Evelina explained, her gaze moving toward the center of the arena, "they respond to the examinee’s mana output, intent, and combat style in real time."
Renelle nodded in understanding, already knowing how these worked from her past life, it was the prince’s favorite training magic tool.
She looked at Adrian standing in the center of the arena without a single change in his expression.
She had ordered him to get the highest score he could, and that was exactly what he intended on doing.
Normally, this would risk putting him in a higher class, but Renelle was already in the highest class, despite her previous rank, so he didn’t have to worry about over performing.
The moment he stepped into the designated area, the magic tools lit up, their glow converging in the center, right where Adrian stood, before an invisible ripple went through the air.
The first visible change was a golden dome like barrier that rose from the edges and covered the entire training ground.
Then, within the barrier, a large form started taking shape from across Adrian.
"Interesting," Evelina muttered, her lips curving slightly as she watched the creature form, "It immediately selected a high-threat beast."
The beast was fully constructed a second later, and the glow died down to reveal what looked like an overgrown stag.
It stood at almost twice Adrian’s height, with fur that was completely white and antlers that were ridiculously huge.
Flowing between it’s antlers and all across its fur were arcs of golden lightning, which immediately told of the beast’s element.
BOOM!
The moment it fully materialized, it vanished, or rather, it moved faster than the eye could follow, leaving a massive crater behind it.
A thunderous explosion rang out as it reappeared right in front of Adrian, its lightning filled antlers already descending toward him.
BOOM!
A lightning filled cloud of dust rose at the point of impact, as the stag seemed to have hit Adrian.
But the lightning charged dust cloud dispersed to reveal a fading silhouette of Adrian and a massive spike piercing through the stag.
Meanwhile, the real Adrian was calmly standing a few meters away from the stag with both his hands in his pocket.
It was clear enough that he was definitely showing off.
Headmistress Evelina, sitting on one of the seats, looked a bit surprised for a few seconds before her smile widened into a grin.
"Oh my," she said softly, "what an interesting one you’ve brought with you, Renelle."
That stag was supposed to be a D rank, the requirement students had to fulfill in order to move to the next year, and depending on how fast you defeated it, you could be placed in a higher or lower class.
And this kid had just gotten the fastest time she had ever seen, even faster than the genius of a prince.
But he seemed like he could show more, so the headmistress allowed the test to continue.
As if pissed off by how quickly and easily he had defeated the first stag that was generated, the illusion magic tool immediately created four more stags of similar size, yet visibly higher ranks.
Seeing this, Renelle frowned, of course she believed Adrian was strong, but she had no idea exactly how strong.
So she was a bit worried that he might not be able to handle four C-ranked beasts at the same time.
But when she looked towards him, she noticed that he was also looking directly at her, with a small smile on his face.
It was basically a ’I’ll be fine’ signal, so she stayed put, and watched the test continue.

Adrian briefly glanced at Renelle before he focused his attention back on the stage before him.
These ones didn’t immediately attack, as they seemed to be calmly observing him, which was their mistake.
A second later, his shadow extend and three silhouettes of him detached themselves from it.
Since they were only able to hold about 40% of his strength, they were basically at D-rank, if not a bit lower.
But they would be enough for what he was about to do, after all, they were only going to act as an extension of his shadow and a distraction.... he’d be the one handling the rest.
"The three of you," he turned to his [Shadow Clones], "don’t make me look bad in front of my lady."
The clones didn’t give any physical feedback, but he could sense their agreement as they also turned towards their attackers...
Who were suddenly, right in front of them?
Whilst Adrian and the clones were momentarily distracted, the Stags had suddenly moved and the next second, they were all in front of the clones.
BOOM!
