Chapter 480 - 480: Forty-Eight Great Vows, Buddhism Established

On the western side of the Prehistoric World—

Zhunti Daoren and Jieyin Daoren appeared. They had departed from Chaos City and returned to the Prehistoric World.

"I didn't expect that eldest senior brother and the others would return to the Prehistoric World and step into the Saint Realm before us. It seems we cannot fall too far behind," said Jieyin Daoren in a deep voice. He could sense the wave of sanctification from the Sanqing, as the boundless Tao sound had spread throughout the Prehistoric World without concealment.

"However, Senior Brother, now that they've established their sects and become Saints, will it affect our plan to establish our religion?" asked Zhunti Daoren.

They had returned because they believed their opportunity for sanctification lay within the Prehistoric World. Their goal was to establish a new religion and attain sainthood. However, before they could begin, the Sanqing had already seized the opportunity.

"No matter," said Jieyin Daoren, waving his hand. "The Prehistoric World is vast and boundless. It can accommodate many great sects. We can still establish ours. Do not forget the reason we founded our religion."

"Of course," replied Zhunti Daoren, clenching his fists. His eyes burned with conviction. "We established our religion to fulfill our aspiration—to ensure equality among all beings, to free them from suffering and calamity, and to bring universal happiness. This is my path."

"Then let us begin. I can feel our opportunity is arriving," said Jieyin Daoren solemnly.

"Very well," nodded Zhunti Daoren.

Rumble—

Suddenly, from the depths of the void, a divine Buddhist chant echoed, resounding across the entire Prehistoric World.

"I am Zhunti Daoren, I am Jieyin Daoren. Today, we establish a new religion—Buddhism.

All sentient beings suffer, and this world is but a purgatory. We vow to guide all beings to the Western Pure Land, where there is no illness, pain, or sorrow.

Let the Second-Rank Innate Supreme Treasure, the Golden Lotus, anchor the fortune of our Buddhist path. May all beings enter the gates of Buddhism."

Then, they recited their forty-eight great vows:

"If I attain Supreme Bodhi and reach enlightenment, may I abide in a Buddhaland adorned with boundless and inconceivable merits. In this land, there shall be no Underworld, Hungry Ghosts, animals, insects, or crawling things. If any being is reborn in such realms, by the power of my Dharma, they shall transcend them and attain Anuttara-Samyak-Sambodhi. If not, I shall not accept enlightenment.

When I become a Buddha, all sentient beings in the ten directions who are reborn in my land shall possess golden, radiant bodies with the thirty-two marks of a great man, identical in appearance—pure and noble. If any are born with differences or ugliness, I shall not attain enlightenment.

When I become a Buddha, everything—from the earth to the sky, from palaces to trees—shall be composed of fragrant, immeasurable jewels, permeating all directions with their scent. All beings who hear of this and do not cultivate the Dharma shall prevent me from attaining enlightenment.

When I become a Buddha, Bodhisattvas in other Buddhalands who hear my name shall enter pure and boundless samādhi and remain therein until they become Buddhas. If they fall from samādhi, I shall not attain enlightenment.

When I become a Buddha, Bodhisattvas in other worlds who hear my name and cultivate the Bodhisattva path but fail to attain the Three Forbearances or enter the state of non-retrogression shall also hinder my attainment of enlightenment."

The moment they uttered these vows, the laws of heaven and earth resonated in response. Divine chants echoed from the void, and brilliant golden light of merit descended from the heavens, bathing Zhunti Daoren and Jieyin Daoren in power.

Originally at the peak of the Quasi-Saint Realm, the overwhelming golden light of merit acted as the final push they needed.

In that instant, Zhunti Daoren and Jieyin Daoren broke through into the Saint Realm, mastering twenty-seven Dao Laws. Radiant Buddha light burst forth from their bodies, forming a boundless Buddhist Domain. The lands around them were transformed into a realm of Buddha, rescuing innumerable beings.

From their place emerged the vast Buddhist Kingdom, and atop a holy mountain stood the great Leiyin Temple.

Endless beings of the Western lands prostrated in devotion, palms joined, basking in the transformative power of the Buddha's light, becoming devout followers.

"It is done," said Zhunti Daoren and Jieyin Daoren, smiling at one another in deep joy.

This cosmic phenomenon did not go unnoticed. The Sanqing sensed it immediately.

"It seems Fourth Junior Brother, Jieyin Daoren, and Fifth Junior Brother, Zhunti Daoren, have also attained sanctification," said Daode Tianzun.

"They truly made forty-eight great vows to become Saints. Their Dao hearts must be unimaginably resolute," said Yuanshi Tianzun.

He knew that making such vows recklessly would result in stagnation, possibly halting one's Cultivation Base forever. But if one could fulfill them, the blessings of heaven and earth would follow, rapidly propelling one forward. This was an exalted and profound cultivation method.

"But since the two juniors also founded a sect and attained sanctity like us, won't this cause future conflict?" asked Lingbao Tianzun.

After all, the establishment of sects involved both doctrine and fate. A stronger sect with more disciples would naturally elevate the power and fortune of its founders. Therefore, sects inevitably competed over talented disciples and heavenly fortune.

"Conflict is inevitable," said Yuanshi Tianzun calmly. "Even if they are our juniors and from the same origin, the pursuit of the Dao is a competition. If we do not compete, who will? If we retreat, we fall into obscurity. If we continue to retreat, we will lose all qualification to seek enlightenment."

"Indeed. And it won't just be Zhunti and Jieyin who contend with us for the fate of the wilderness," said Daode Tianzun.

"What?!" exclaimed Lingbao Tianzun and Yuanshi Tianzun together, suddenly recalling a crucial point.

For when nine Saints are born in the Prehistoric World, the world's seal shall be broken—and beings from beyond the world shall be allowed to enter.

Now with the Sanqing, Nuwa, Zhunti, and Jieyin having already transcended, the limit of nine Saints had already been surpassed.

One could imagine, when the seal is lifted, how many peerless experts from all realms would swarm into the Prehistoric World.

At that time, dragons and serpents would mingle; the Prehistoric World would become the greatest battlefield in all of existence.
