Chapter 41: Polaris

There. We. Go.

The stupid system was finally considering letting go of me. The message thing? That was just a side note.

This was way more important.

Could I finally get my freedom from this weirdo that latched on? I was deeply considering killing the hero and the girl toward that goal, but once again as always.

The hero won out on my personal scale.

With a heavy heart, I decided to make the side note the main note.

"Open Message."

The Apocalypse Keeper reacted to my words without any delay as the message that the Constellations sent revealed itself.

[Hed Sthwst. 2 Polaris—.]

The text was barely legible, almost as if they had paged it.

"Is that all?"

[The Strongest Dragon God System informs that is all a constellation can tell you currently.]

It seemed they had a limit on how much they could intervene in the game.

I pulled the gun and machete back.

Alice slumped to the ground, heaving heavy sighs.

"What the hell!" she screamed. "I thought I'd die."

Relafan, on the other hand, was just as surprised seeing her reaction as I was.

"Why did you think that?" he said. "Shoving a gun in someone's mouth is almost like a greeting for him."

"Are you American, mister?"

"Not a drop of American blood."

"You have the spirit. You can probably ask for citizenship."

With the world gone to shit, even the white house would have a hard time surviving.

I shrugged while Relafan pulled Alice up. She got used to all this rather quickly.

"We're headed Southeast, to some place called Polaris. I don't remember any locale by that name."

"Three years is a lot, do you know it, Alice?"

"I haven't heard the name, but I am also not familiar with the city."

We'd find out.

***

The first thing we did after getting away from the service station was to find a local Starducks.

It had just been a month and some days since the apocalypse began, so we found good enough milk in their still-operating freezers.

We had to fight out the suit-clad zombies though, thankfully most of them were outside Starducks.

After a good coffee and a meal, we decided to just fuck it and sleep instead.

Then began our journey over to the bunker once more.

Not like there was any time limit.

And now, finally, after handling both food and rest.

We set out Southeast to the place we were looking for.

The heads of the other leaders were going to be ours.

Or so we had thought...

"This..." The Hero muttered, the sight of a giant fence blocking out hundreds of zombies and skeletons almost overwhelming.

Standing atop watchtowers behind the fence were people with a few guns and other makeshift weapons.

Shining above the fence was a barrier, a kind similar to, but much weaker than the safe zones that we saw in the first scenario.

A large, wide complex of buildings stretching to the sky had been cleared out, safe from any threats the outside could throw.

A great settlement of survivors, likely the first of its kind, and quite possibly the only one in Central Darma.

This was Polaris.
