Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 233 - 230: Like an Angel
Sienna Thornton, who had been eating bland meals for a while, was all smiles after having this feast. With a few good drinks down, she felt a bit dizzy and was resting her chin on her hand, squinting at Simon Forrester.
Simon Forrester finished the last lobster leg, wiped his hands with a wet towel, and quietly looked at Sienna Thornton, his eyes deep: "Shall we take a bath together later? That way, your face won’t be swollen when you wake up tomorrow."
"Sure."
"Then why don’t you go run the bath and get ready. I’ll clean up here and join you."
Sienna agreed, her cheeks flushed as she stood up and playfully said, "You better hurry, or else I might start without you once the water is ready."
With that, she swayed back to the bedroom, her hips twisting, and her head bobbing.
Simon, who had maintained a smile all night, finally let it fade away, heaved a long sigh, and began tidying up the kitchen and dining area.
When he finished and went to the bathroom, he found Sienna already soaking in the water.
Her eyes were closed, and her head tilted back, her body submerged in the warm water, which covered her shoulders, leaving her long, white neck exposed, supporting her head wrapped in a cat-eared headband.
Her cheeks were flushed, and her bare face steamed red from the warm water, with all her hair tucked up. Even with her head tilted at this tricky angle, her features and face shape were delicate and flawless.
She was truly beautiful.
Like an angel.
A kind, smart, cute, and pure angel.
Simon wanted to use the most beautiful words in the world for her, but unfortunately, he wasn’t a man of literature, and his love couldn’t defeat his lack of eloquence.
He had thought he was capable of anything, but at this moment, he realized how powerless he was in many matters concerning her.
This feeling of frustration was much like the one he felt after leaving Quentin Thorne’s office earlier that afternoon.
"Why are you staring blankly at me?" Sienna asked softly with her eyes still closed.
Simon snapped out of his thoughts and quickly got into the water.
He sat opposite her, gazed at her quietly for a while, and pondered before asking, "If you could reunite with your biological father, what is the first thing you’d want to do?"
Her previously upturned lips slowly drooped, her eyes remained gently closed, but her brow furrowed slightly, and a wave of pain flickered subtly across her face.
After a moment of silence, she suppressed her emotions and said, "I’d want to have a good talk with him, ask him why he left my mom, ask him how he’s been all these years, if he ever thought about her..."
After speaking, she suddenly laughed, a laugh filled with helplessness and bitterness.
Simon reached out, pulled her into his arms, kissed her forehead, and comforted her softly, "Maybe when he got home, he met with an accident, unable to control his fate, and by the time he returned, your mother was no longer there."
Sienna remained silent, her expression pained.
Simon said, "He probably lived well because he is knowledgeable and kind. He’d occasionally think of your mom, who is a cherished memory in his heart."
Upon hearing this, Sienna suddenly turned her back to him, burying her face in her hands.
He quickly pulled her back into his embrace, holding her tightly, feeling her body trembling and his shoulder getting wet.
He knew she was crying, suppressing herself, biting her lip, not daring to make a sound, crying like a helpless child.
He held her even tighter, comforting her in pain, "Don’t cry, baby, don’t cry. I will definitely help you find him, absolutely!"
-
Sienna was very sad that night, and after drinking, she didn’t even know how she fell asleep, missing Maeve’s call.
When she woke up early the next morning, she wanted to call Maeve back but was afraid Maeve might still be asleep, so she left a message on WeChat for Maeve to call at her convenience.
Near the end of the workday, she received a call from Nolan Kramer’s secretary, who informed her that Cognitas had excelled and stood out in yesterday’s bid meeting, and now Forrester Group had decided to outsource their legal affairs to Cognitas.
This result was both anticipated and unexpected, and Sienna was so thrilled that she immediately notified Rhonda Wagner and Aurora Buckley, and they agreed to meet at Forrester’s that afternoon for detailed discussions.
Rhonda and Aurora were both excited, with Aurora even speculating how much Forrester would pay annually. However, she couldn’t guess and asked Sienna, but Sienna also wasn’t sure as Nolan didn’t play by conventional rules.
In the afternoon, Rhonda drove while Sienna and Aurora brought along the documents, and the three headed to Forrester full of ambition.
Having previously spent two to three months at Forrester, Sienna knew her way around their internal structure and soon met Nolan in Bianca Fordham’s former office.
In the office, there was only Nolan and his secretary. Nolan politely invited them to sit and personally brewed tea to entertain them.
After a brief chat, Nolan quickly got to the point, "Please have a look at the documents in your hands. The board of directors of Forrester Group has decided to outsource legal affairs work to Cognitas with the following requirements."
He then instructed the secretary to distribute the documents: "Take these back with you, review them, and if there are no issues, come back tomorrow afternoon to sign the contract."
Sienna hastily glanced over the contents of the papers, her expression changing dramatically, and she immediately asked, "Mr. Jenner, I have two questions."
Nolan said, "Go ahead, Lawyer Thornton."
Sienna asked, "Firstly, I want to know who drafted this document, which can be considered an addendum to the agreement, and who approved it?" She waved the pages of the agreement, showing that there were only neatly printed words on each page, without any signatures.
Moreover, this agreement seemed suspicious because Nolan claimed it was approved by the entire board, yet Simon Forrester, one of the directors, was clearly unaware of it.
Something was fishy, and she needed to get to the bottom of it.
Nolan chuckled and counter-questioned, "Does it matter?"
Sienna replied, "It certainly does. Any agreement requires review and approval. That’s fundamental."
Nolan looked at her with an indifferent gaze.
After a moment of standoff, Nolan instructed the secretary to take the agreement away to get stamped by the finance department and then return it.
The secretary, taking Sienna and the others along, led them to the meeting room when leaving.
Once the meeting room door closed, Aurora, being straightforward, commented, "Lawyer Thornton, it seems like this Forrester’s supplementary agreement is targeting you. They’re trying to tie you to Forrester. And judging by the content, the outsourcing fee they’re offering us should be quite low."
Sienna was taken aback, never expecting Forrester would outsource their legal affairs to Cognitas in such a way.
"That’s why I asked whose idea this agreement was and who approved it. However, as you saw, he didn’t give a direct answer and just tried to brush us off by stamping it." Sienna was a bit annoyed.
Rhonda, however, remained calm, remaining silent for a while before nodding and saying, "Actually, this plan isn’t too bad, at least suitable for Cognitas at present. But if you feel it’s inappropriate, we can formally request negotiations, as nothing is signed yet, and there’s room for discussion."
Aurora glanced worriedly at the silent Sienna and sighed, "That Mr. Jenner seems quite assertive. I reckon this won’t be an easy talk."
