Chapter 232: Chapter 229: Eat More Vegetables, Eat Less Meat

As soon as it hit five, Sienna Thornton said goodbye to her two partners and left work. When she drove to the apartment’s underground garage, she noticed the space next to hers was still empty, meaning Simon Forrester hadn’t come back yet. Knowing they’d be grocery shopping together later, she couldn’t be bothered to go upstairs only to come back down, so she just turned on her hazard lights and sat in the car waiting for him.

She opened a WeChat group chat called "Brimfield Lawyers," planning to see if any other lawyers had cases they didn’t want and wanted to transfer. However, after scrolling through, nobody was throwing out cases, and there were quite a few people, like her, looking for work.

The group chat was lively, with several lawyers discussing their plans to appear on the popular legal show "Lawyer Speak" to boost their law firm’s visibility. Even if they didn’t land big cases, getting some legal consultation gigs to earn hourly fees was still worthwhile.

This idea sparked a new thought for Sienna Thornton, and she immediately called Maeve to see if she knew the director or producer of "Lawyer Speak."

It happened that Maeve was with her agent then, and coincidentally, Maeve’s agent was acquainted with the producer of "Lawyer Speak." When they heard Sienna wanted to be on the show, they immediately agreed to help her get in touch.

Sienna Thornton chatted with Maeve for a bit. They hadn’t seen each other in over a month, and they hadn’t had much time to talk at the last reunion, so they took this chance to catch up. Sienna was happy to learn Maeve was auditioning for a movie role, planning to step into the film industry. But then she suddenly realized that ever since she started dating Simon Forrester, she and Maeve had been drifting apart.

"Maeve..." Sienna was just about to ask Maeve when she’d be home, thinking of spending the night at her place when she heard a few firm knocks. Turning her head, she saw Simon Forrester tapping on the car window. Sienna quickly said to Maeve on the phone, "I have to hang up now, I’ll call you later."

After hanging up, Sienna got out of the car with her handbag: "Did you get off work late today?"

Simon naturally took the computer bag from her hands: "I didn’t go to the office this afternoon, went back to the old house."

"For the bidding conference?"

"No."

Simon’s expression was somewhat unnatural, and he didn’t say much more. He wrapped his arm around Sienna, kissed her forehead, and walked toward the elevator.

With the elevator doors closed, Sienna asked again, "So why did you go back to the old house?"

She was just casually asking, but Simon, who usually talks more with her, was unusually silent, only saying lightly, "Went to see Grandpa."

"But didn’t you say you had an urgent matter to handle?" Sienna started feeling something was off, "Why would you just go back to see Grandpa?"

"I..." Simon found himself indeed not good at lying.

Just then, the elevator doors opened. He breathed a sigh of relief and quickly pulled Sienna out. A corner turn from the elevator was OLE.

Once they grabbed a shopping cart, Simon hurriedly changed the subject: "What do you want to eat tonight?"

Without a second thought, Sienna said, "I want to eat meat!"

"..."

Simon pushed the cart and walked further in, mumbling about how Sienna should eat more vegetables and less meat, yet subconsciously steering the cart towards the meat section.

After a round of shopping, they bought two pieces of beef sirloin and an Australian lobster. Sienna felt this was enough, but Simon still detoured to the vegetable section to grab a bag of okra.

Seeing this made Sienna laugh and tease, "I really suspect you’re a sheep, loving greens so much."

Simon casually pushed the cart: "Aren’t you the one who’s a sheep? I’m a tiger."

Sienna rolled her eyes and thought for a second, "Oh right! I am the sheep." She then laughed at herself, "But how did we end up reversed? The sheep likes meat, and the tiger likes vegetables."

"It’s not about the zodiac, it’s about lifestyle habits."

Sienna burst into laughter, nonchalantly saying, "We were poor growing up, hardly had any meat, got sick of eating vegetables. I guess it’s a compensatory psychology thing, always craving meat now that I can afford it, like trying to make up for what I missed as a kid."

Simon heard this and a complex emotion flashed across his face, but he held back a response.

Sienna continued teasing, "You rich kids from The Capital, probably got fed up with meat growing up, and started focusing on health and eating more greens when you grew up, huh?"

"It’s not as exaggerated as you say, it’s just about balanced nutrition."

As he spoke, Simon pulled her into his embrace, kissed her forehead dotingly: "Okay, if you didn’t have meat as a kid, and probably still eating less meat than others now, then just eat meat if you want to. I won’t stop you from now on."

Sienna cheered up, helped him push the cart and urged him to check out quickly, eager to eat meat that night.

-

The two cooked together that night.

Simon rinsed the lobster while Sienna fried the steaks. When Simon finished cleaning and cutting the lobster, Sienna turned the steaks over. Simon placed the lobster in the electric steamer, started making the sauce, ready to drizzle over the lobster and the boiled okra. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Sienna finished frying the steaks, then boiled water in the pan to cook the okra. Once the okra cooled and was cut, the lobster was ready too. As the steaming hot sauce was drizzled over the lobster, delightful aromas filled the air.

While Simon was preparing the lobster, Sienna stood watching beside him, admiration in her voice: "You’re quite the cook too."

Simon smiled: "And you’re quite good."

Sienna giggled: "I’m only good at home-cooked dishes, but you can really cook. This is good, after our kid gets tired of home-cooked meals, he can try your fancy dishes as a change."

She spoke quickly, unintentionally mentioning kids.

Simon was listening intently to her, and suddenly froze, almost over-pouring the sauce until Sienna reminded him.

Regaining his composure, he quickly drizzled the remaining sauce over the okra, then added soy sauce, vinegar, and garlic.

Once done, the starved Sienna eagerly took the dishes out, while Simon washed his hands and grabbed the utensils to follow.

"Open a bottle of red wine?" Simon asked.

"Sure."

Simon selected a bottle from the wine rack, opened it, and brought over two goblets.

After pouring, he gently placed a glass by Sienna’s side. She took a small sip: "It’s so good! Is it expensive?"

Simon glanced at the bottle: "Not too bad, around eighty to ninety thousand per bottle."

Sienna frowned: "Then every sip costs thousands."

Simon smirked, sipping his wine: "It’s Romanee-Conti, and they don’t sell by bottle. You have to buy a case of 12 bottles."

Sienna exclaimed, "So a case is nearly a million, truly wine for millionaires."

"A case a million, can a millionaire even afford that? You’re a millionaire now, would you spend all your wealth to buy a case of wine?"

He joked about reality, while Sienna’s thoughts drifted to the night she broke her leg at his house, remarking: "No wonder when I brought wine to your place last time, you refused to accept it, was it because you thought my wine was too cheap? The back-and-forth, the bottle fell, shattered all over, injuring my foot..."

Recalling their awkward fated meeting made Simon chuckle: "That’s exactly it. The bottle you brought last time was probably just a few thousand, and I really couldn’t drink it."

He had already set down his wine glass, peeling the lobster meat, placing the best parts onto Sienna’s plate, all the while saying "eat more veggies," yet his actions truthfully offered her the delicious meat.
