Chapter 634: Friends’ and mother talk

"I heard from my daughter that you’re her first friend." Cleora said, addressing Renaldo as the four of them took a seat in the living room.

"Me?" Renaldo blinked and pointed a finger at himself.

"Yes, dear." Cleora hummed, her lips quirking up into a small smile. "She was very particular about you, you see.. She told me a couple of times yesterday that you were the first person she tried to befriend in Yogusho Village."

When Coco and Cleora finished the show they were watching, Coco had decided to say a couple of things about Jacques and her mediators.

She didn’t say much honestly.. Only that Renaldo was such an adorable fellow and seemed so different from his appearance that she became unconsciously adamant on being his friend.

Of course, Coco was eager to befriend Jacques when she first saw her, but she was more excited when she met Renaldo.

"It was like meeting a mafia boss, but then I found out that he was actually just a big teddy bear who only wanted his wife to be happy so he did everything she told him to do in hope that it would please her to the bone."

Now, if there’s something that Cleora had learned over the years.. It was how good a man is if he wanted his wife to be happy.

There is a saying back on earth— happy wife, happy life, and the men she had met who love their wife, wanting them to be happy and all, turned out to be someone she can count on if fate suddenly decided to take her away from her daughters.

These lovely men obviously love their wife. Cleora thought, her eyes switching between Jonathan and Renaldo.

It was clear to the older woman that Jonathan, who was sitting on the farthest spot from her, wasn’t that pleased to have a conversation with her, so she won’t push her luck and start a talk with him.

Instead, she will focus on the other two.

"I didn’t know Coco thought of me like that.." Renaldo mumbled, his heart fluttering in his chest as he turned to Jacques, his eyes glossing slightly. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"What?" The pink haired woman blinked, her eyebrows furrowing. "I thought it was pretty obvious that we’re important to her? Didn’t you see how she treats other people?"

Cleora couldn’t help, but giggle at that. "It’s such a relief that someone understands how my daughter functions."

"Of course, mother." Jacques turned back to Cleora, but her hand immediately slid to Renaldo’s thigh and squeezed him to at least comfort him. "If you saw how she treats other people, you will notice that we’re special to her."

"I love how you can say this with so much confidence." Cleora laughed, her chest warming at the sight of Coco’s friend being proud.

"Yes, mother." Jacques huffed out, her cheeks stretched out at how wide her smile had become.

"Coco is pretty strict when it comes to forming relationships with other people." She grinned at the older woman, eyes twinkling with fond warmth. "You should have seen how my brother became sad when he found out that I’m Coco’s friend because apparently, she refused to be his friend due to Coco Hughes’ debt."

Cleora froze, eyes widening slightly. "Debt..? The original owner of her body had a debt? And she paid it all on her own?"

Jacques immediately sensed that something was amiss so the smile on her face lessened a little. "Yes, unfortunately.. But Coco quickly paid all of them and became friends with him."

"Did she have a house in that village?" Cleora asked, eyebrows furrowing in worry. "How was her living condition there?"

"Had.. She not told you?" Jacques returned the question, her heart dropping to her stomach as she stared at Cleora. "Oh, goodness.. I don’t think it’s my place to say all of these to you, mother."

"I—" Cleora spoke up, wanting to argue that Jacques shouldn’t feel that way because it will be done with good intentions, but a part of her brain told her that Coco will tell her what happened some day, at her own pace.

"You’re right." Cleora let out a sigh and pressed her fingers on her temples. "I’m glad that you’re such a good friend to her, Jacques."

Jacques couldn’t help, but giggle at that.

However, before their conversation could continue further, they heard footsteps across the hall that sounded like someone was in a rush.

This caught the attention of the people inside the living room, but as Jacques was about to stand up to check out what was happening.. Zaque popped up from the hall with a strained smile on his face.

"I hope I’m not interrupting your conversation." The mediator stated, lowering his head ever so slightly.

"Oh, of course not, dear. Cleora hummed and was quick to dismiss his worry off with a wave of her hand. "What’s the matter though? You sounded like you were in a rush or something. Is everything okay?"

Zaque cleared his throat, his eyes sweeping across the room. "Coco’s not feeling well."

The four people inside the room immediately perked up and looked worried, but the red haired mediator continued speaking and effectively stopping them before they could ask questions.

"She wasn’t feeling well, so we sent her upstairs to sleep." Zaque explained with a small smile before addressing Jacques and the other two mediators. "She ordered me to tell the three of you to come back tomorrow morning."

Even though Zaque was explaining what happened, he wasn’t exactly elaborative of what went down in the kitchen for Coco to feel sick all of a sudden.

She looked fine earlier. Cleora thought, her eyes narrowing slightly as she glanced at Zaque.

"What about the other husbands?" Cleora couldn’t stop shelf from asking, her desire to know what exactly happened getting the best of her.

"Heiren and Kairo are still cleaning up." Zaque answered, his body tensing under her scrutinizing gaze. "Quizen’s the one who tucked her in, mother."
