Chapter 246: A raven’s pair quest [3]

"What.. What is that?"

Coco’s eyes squinted, trying to make out her surroundings, when a dark shape appeared in the distance.

It was a large blob of dark goo, its form shifting and undulating, the only feature visible two bright red eyes and the creature was approaching fast, its body moving with a speed that was unnerving towards the group of men down below gathered meters away from her tree.

Coco’s heart pounded in her chest, her body frozen in terror as the creature drew closer.

"Quick! Summon vines and jump!" Lala screeched, barking the order out when she saw the approaching monster in the distance, "Lulu informed me that you can summon plants now! So hurry!"

"But I don’t know how—"

"Just jump!"

Coco’s head jerked up at the sound of the fairy’s voice, her green irises wavering as she shot a helpless look towards Lala.

"But I—"

"Jump and grow a vine to catch you!" Lala’s order came again, this time with a command to jump down and summon a vine that would catch her.

Coco’s heart leapt into her throat as she looked down at the ground far below, then to the creature that was getting closer by the second, the nightmarish sight of the goo monster scalding itself to her brain.

"Coco! Jump!" The garden fairy commanded again, her voice high pitched, but her tone steady and firm.

With a moment of hesitation, Coco leapt from the branch, like as she was told, her body falling through the air after she closed her eyes.

She felt a moment of weightlessness as she plummeted towards the ground, the wind whipped past her face, pulling her hair backwards and filling her ears with a rush of sound.

She opened her eyes, the sight of the ground loomed below making her breath hitch, the distance between her and the hard forest floor shortening with alarming speed, but just as she was about to hit the ground, a thick green vine shot up from the ground beneath her.

The vine’s coiled length wraps around her body and catches her with a forceful snap, catching Coco mid-air and causing her to let out a gasp, its tendrils embracing her body in a tight embrace.

However, even with the abrupt stop, the vine was gentle, its smooth surface cushioning her fall and slowly lowering her to the ground.

The thick leaves rustled as the vine moved, its slender appendages snaking around her limbs and securing her in place— the vine swayed slightly, the movement causing her to spin gently in the air, her hair sweeping around her face.

"Coco, run!" Came a panicked shout of the fairy as she collided on Coco’s hair, her hands gripping her hair tightly.

Coco quickly untangled herself from the vine’s grip, her movements swift and precise as soon as she heard Lala tell her to run.

She landed on the ground with a soft thump, her legs immediately resuming their rhythm, and continued running.

She could hear the sound of the goo monster growing louder behind her, its form a dark, amorphous mass in the distance, the sound of liquid sloshing reaching her ears.

Coco soon saw the group of men in the distance and yelled out, her voice strained and panicked as she screamed at the guards, screaming at the top of her lungs, her voice cracking with urgency.

"Run!" Coco cried out, her voice filled with urgency and fear, "Run! Now!"

The guards snapped their heads to her direction, their eyebrows furrowing as they saw the panic on Coco’s face.

The guards stood there, stunned and confused, their faces etched with surprise at her sudden outburst, but when they realised that she was running away from something, the guards snapped out of their stupor and obeyed her command.

Without question, they fell into step ahead of her, their footsteps hurried and their faces pale as they ran away from the approaching threat, their footsteps thundering on the ground. freewebnσvel.cѳm

"What is that?!"

"I have never seen a monster like that!"

Coco could hear the guards, their shocks evident with how their voices trembled, their heavy footfalls shaking the ground beneath them.

She could sense their confusion and concern, but she didn’t have time to explain, her mind focused solely on the creature chasing her.

She could hear the creature behind her, its formless and thick mass of a body sludging through the forest ground, its glowing eyes fixed on her— a dangerous glint in its red eyes.

Coco pushed herself harder, her legs moving faster with every stride.

"It won’t stop chasing you, Coco!" The garden fairy cried out, not bothering to stay quiet and pushing aside the thought of Alithe possibly hearing her, "You have to kill it or else it will kill you!"

Lala didn’t have to tell her because Coco already know.

Coco inhaled sharply and yelled at the top of her lungs once again, her voice ragged and hoarse. "Keep running!"

The group continued running through deeper to the forest, their breaths ragged and their limbs straining with the effort of keeping themselves away from the monster.

Feeling that something was amiss, Alithe turned his head around to check on Coco, to see if she was running behind them, only to see her taking a turn as she continued running in a different direction, leading the monster away from them.

Alithe skidded into a stop, dumbfounded, the realization that she was willingly isolating herself dawning on him, an expression of horror washing over his face, her intention making his heart pummel to his stomach.

"No— coco! Stop!" He called out to her, his voice strained and desperate, catching the guards’ attention and making halt in their tracks abruptly.

However, it was too late— Coco was almost already out of his sight, the sound of her footsteps swallowed by the rustling of the forest’s noises, mixed with the sound of the creature behind her, loud and menacing.

Alithe felt a pang of panic as Coco quickly disappeared from his sight.
