Chapter 247: A raven’s pair quest [4]
"How do I kill that thing?!"
She yelled out to the garden fairy, gasping for breath as she ran, her breathing ragged, her lungs burning, and her legs growing weak with exhaustion, but she knew she couldn’t stop, not until she was certain the others had gotten away.
The goo creature was still hot on her heels, the sticky sound of its footsteps growing louder behind her.
"I don’t know how! I’m not familiar with this world’s monsters!" Lala cried out, grasping Coco’s dark strands tighter to keep her from getting whisk away from the wind.
Coco did not know how long she could keep this up, running blindly through the forest and hoping to escape the creature’s grasp. It’s not like she can pull out the map out of her bag to navigate herself through the forest, right?
Coco only pushed herself harder, her legs burning with pain as she pumped them faster, her eyes fixed on the path ahead of her.
However, despite her best efforts, she could still hear the goo creature behind her, the sludging sound of its footsteps growing louder with every second, shaking the ground with its tremendous weight.
"Please, I need to know how to kill it!" Coco yelled again, her voice cracking with desperation.
This isn’t the first time she was chased by something that wants to kill her, but this was the first time that a monster triple her size was chasing her as if its life depended on catching her.
She took a sharp turn, her feet skidding as she weaved through the trees, her heart pounding in her chest.
"I can’t run forever!" Coco yelled once more, her voice growing hoarse from all the shouting. "Someone tell me how to kill it!" s
Her frustration and panic started to show through as she took another sharp turn, her body slamming into a tree as she tried to change directions.
"Fuck!" She hissed as she stumbled, but quickly regained her footing and kept moving.
As if to answer her desperate cries, a scroll shimmered into existence before her, the light from its surface illuminating her face in the darkness of the forest.
Coco’s eyes widened as she saw the scroll appear, her breath catching in her chest, a feeling of relief washing over her. freewёbnoνel-com
Coco quickly scanned the scroll, her heart pounding in her chest as she took in the instructions inscribed on the parchment.
[ Keep running and don’t look back! The monster that’s following you feeds on humans who are stronger than him, but even if you’re stronger, all it takes is consuming you to get himself stronger!
Do everything that I have written below to kill the sludge haunter! ]
Coco’s mind raced, the words sinking in as she read what she had to do.
She took a deep breath, her body trembling with fatigue but her resolve firm, and then she pushed herself forward, running through the forest, her footsteps quick and rhythmic.
She darted in and out of trees, her movements like that of a hunted animal, every sense heightened.
Up ahead, Coco’s ears picked up the faint, but growing sound of running water, the noise a welcome change from the sounds of the forest.
She looked ahead, her eyes straining through the darkness and saw a river come into view— it was wider than she thought, the water running fast and deep— the sound of it rushing a comforting background noise.
She quickened her pace, her feet pounding against the ground as she ran towards the river, her mind blank.
Coco ran into the clearing, the sound of running water growing louder with each step, and then, she saw the river, the water’s edge glistening in the faint moonlight.
Without hesitation, she ran towards the river and threw herself in the water, her feet pounding on the ground as she pushed herself harder, desperation giving her tired limbs a new burst of energy.
Coco raced towards the river, her feet starting to kick up a spray of mud and water as she crossed the riverbank.
Water splashed up onto her legs as she waded into the water, the cool liquid soaking into her boots and clothes, clinging to her skin.
She opened her inventory, her eyes momentarily shifting to the slots before she pulled out the magical egg she received from her quest a few days back, her fingers trembling as she clutched it tightly in her arms.
The water was icy cold, the chill of the water a contrast to the heat of her skin, but she didn’t falter, her gaze fixed on the egg as she waded further into the water, the current pulling at her legs.
Splash!
Coco’s heart raced as she heard the sound of the creature behind her, the water splashing as it chased her through the river, the sound of its body moving through the water getting louder as it chased her down.
She quickened her pace, her legs kicking up spray as she tried to move as fast as possible in the water.
"Hurry, Coco! It’s getting close!" The fairy cried out, stomping her feet on Coco’s shoulder, like how a person would jump whenever they’re scared.
"I’m doing my best— ack!" Coco hissed, her foot slipping against the slippery ground of the river.
"Eek!" Lala screeched, holding tightly on Coco.
Coco scrambled to stabilize her footing, her movements making the water splash and slosh as she went through the river.
Coco waded out of the river, her body moving automatically to prepare to carry out the instructions she had read on the scroll, her breathing ragged as she huffed out deep breaths.
The monster is halfway through the water, its eyes locked on her, its attention completely focused on its prey.
Coco’s body whipped around, her jaw clenched, and heart pounding as she drew her arm back, the magical egg gripped tightly in her hands.
She took a deep breath, her mind focused on her task, and then she threw the egg towards the sludge haunter.
