New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 234: Beat up
Chapter 234: Beat up
"You have a pair?" Coco asked, raising an eyebrow.
Of course, she already knows that the man before her has a pair, but she’s not supposed to know that, right? She has to play dumb or else, they will get suspicious of her.
She only told the village chief about her not being Coco Hughes anymore and not about her abilities so she can’t reveal that she knows about the man before her being a hybrid.
Obviously, she also can’t tell them that the scroll told her that the hybrid has a mate and that he’s a raven hybrid.
No, of course not.
"Who wouldn’t have a pair in this day and age?" The man scoffed, crossing his arms in front of him with a frown.
"Ahem." Chief Salamandara forced out a cough and shot Alithe a cold smile, scrutinizing and chilling, her eyes staring dead into Alithe’s eyes.
"Well.. Some of us choose to stay single." Alithe was quick to take back his sarcasm earlier as he started sweating profusely, beads of sweat forming on his forehead while he looked away from the village chief.
"Exactly." Chief Salamandara chuckled out as she turned away from Alithe, "Anyway, Alithe’s pair has gone missing. The main city’s captain of the order will send a backup tomorrow. I want you to lead those guards and bring back Alithe’s pair."
"Lead?!" Coco gasped out of shock, her eyes wide and jaw dropping in disbelief.
"Yes." Alithe confirmed Coco’s follow up question bluntly, "You’re strong and it is clear that you know what you’re doing. The main city has guards, but most of them are dumb as they can be and wouldn’t do much."
"If they are dumb, why are they guards in the first place?" The garden fairy commented, her voice laced with displeasure.
However, no one heard her except for Coco so the hybrids before them kept talking.
"I will tell them that someone strong and respectable will lead them so they will follow you." Chief Salamandara said with a small smile, "If they try something funny, don’t be afraid to tell me."
"Why would they try something funny?" Coco asked, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
The shock and disbelief had melted away, leaving only a good ounce of curiosity in her veins so all she could do is ask.
"The guards may be seen as a noble figure, but I’ve faced a good number of disrespectful guards throughout my stay in the main city." The village chief hummed out, tilting her head to the side.
"You need to give them a good beating or two, but punishing them according to the law will be far more satisfying to show them who’s the boss." She added on to her previous statement, a playful smile on her lips.
"I agree with the village chief, Mrs. Hughes." Alithe spoke up and approached Coco, pushing his face close to hers, "A beating or two is good so don’t be afraid to take them down." frёeweɓηovel_coɱ
She could practically feel and hear his warm breath to her ears, making a chill run down her spine.
"I get it." Coco grumbled under her breath and pushed away the raven hybrid, pressing her palm square on his face and with enough force to push him away, "In short, I haVe to show them who’s the boss if they did something funny, right?"
"Precisely." Chief Salamandara chuckled and nodded her head, "There may be decent guards from the main city, but you never know."
Coco stepped away from the desk and kept her gaze on the village chief, her shoulders tense with suspicion and curiosity, but she did not have the strength to ask them more questions.
So, instead, she turned away and cleared her throat.
"I will be getting the permit after this little expedition of this man then? Which means.. I can go to the main city as early as next week?" Coco asked, making sure the question wouldn’t be related to their previous topic of beating people up.
"That’s right." Chief Salamandara answered truthfully and gestured towards the shelf standing against the wall, "I’ll even have your permit slip in one of the books to keep it from wrinkling."
"I don’t think there’s any use for that.. You can just send it to my room." Coco said, trailing off as she looked away from the bookshelf.
"I’m just saying." The village chief hummed out with a quiet laugh, "You don’t want to beat up the guards when I’m telling you right now that they are nothing, but good for nothing people. They deserve whatever’s coming for them."
"I’ll get to that beating you speak of once I’m in that situation, okay? There’s no need to advertise it over and over again." Coco narrowed her eyes towards the purple haired woman, a frown on her face.
She hates the talk of people getting hurt, but she hates it even more if the cause of the pain is her.
"Again." The village chief shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly with the same smile playing in the corner of her lips, "I’m just saying. They deserve whatever’s coming for them."
"Whatever." Coco grumbled and turned away, "I’m going now if you don’t have anything else to say other than beating them up."
"I understand." Chief Salamandara chuckled out, as if she finds everything hilarious.
"Just watch out for little Jona, Mrs. Hughes." Alithe spoke up as Coco grabbed the door handle, making her freeze in her tracks and look at him.
".. What do you mean?" Coco asked slowly, her voice dripping with uncertainty.
"That man had caused a lot of trouble in the main city, you know? He had picked a fight in someone else’s turf while he was staying there." Alithe spoke in a roundabout way and it was making Coco’s head hurt.
"Stop speaking in riddles and just be done with it." Coco said, the tone of her voice flat and monotone.
"Who knows?" Alithe smiled, condescending and secretive, as he looked at Coco from head to toe.
