Chapter 178: TO BREAK THE CHAINS

"Wha..." Her words were left hanging. "Are these all the gifts sent by the aristocrat families?"

In the room were piles of gifts neatly arranged, taking up so much space that the storage room could barely contain them.

"Yes, princess." Adeline replied. "Do you want me to unpack the gifts, princess?" She asked.

Aristia nodded her head. "You don’t need to specify the noble family, just tell me the gifts, only specify those sent by my family and friends."

She could even sell the gifts sent by those aristocrats, that she didn’t like or need.

"Yes, princess." Adeline then proceeded to retrieve the gifts sent by the nobility before those from Aristia’s friends and family.

Queen Rowaine had sent ornate jewelry. It was a small, beautiful and delicate tiara, adorned with pearls, gemstones, and intricate engravings.

The rest of the gifts were from noble families; charm bracelets, luxurious fabrics like velvet cloaks and capes, and fine silk scarves embroidered with elegant patterns.

There were also beautifully bound collection of poetry and songs, possibly written by famous poets, small carved wooden figures, figurines made of glass, crystal, or precious stones, glass bottles of scented oil and perfumes, and paintings.

Someone even gifted her a large bird in a gold cage.

[All these are for me and I’m only six. I wonder what they’ll send me if I come of age.] Aristia was speechless.

Adeline finally took out the gifts her friends and family sent.

"These are from Master Juno." Adeline began from the least in status as she presented the gifts.

"These were brought by miss Nova... This is from miss Paige... master Wade... miss Alicia... miss Lilith... from miss Lauren... master Liam... princess Serina... princess Beatrix... prince Ivan." Adeline stated the senders as she handed each gift to Aristia.

After she was done with handing the gifts sent by the children to Aristia, she started to bring out those sent by the adults.

At the end of it all, there was quite a pile beside Aristia.

"You can put it back, Linny." She said.

Among the gifts sent by her family and friends were jewelry, flowers, small trinkets, ribbons and small decorative hairpins, silk and cotton, beaded bracelets and necklaces, and an embroidered handkerchief with Aristia’s initials and something she guessed might have been a flower...or a bird.

There were also many letters wishing good health and conveying their care and good wishes for her recovery.

However, she noticed that although they sent different gifts, they all had one gift in common— they all sent sweets and treats. It was ridiculous that it was mentioned in the letter.

"Where are the sweets they’re talking about?" Aristia asked Adeline.

"It’s in princess’s room." Adeline said.

"My room?"

[How come I didn’t notice?]

"Show me." She said instead.

They returned to her room. Just like Aristia thought, there really was nothing in her room.

When she looked at Adeline with an obvious question in her eyes, Adeline explained.

"It’s in princess’s wardrobe."

"Oh."

Adeline opened the door to the walk in closet where there was a space in the middle.

There, Aristia saw it.

There were specially prepared cookies and pastries. There were small pouches of honeyed nuts, sugared fruits, and other treats.

However, those small pouches became large when combined together.

Aristia’s mouth twitched lightly.

Even Adeline seemed to have noticed it as she tried to hide the amused smile on her lips.

"These were sent yesterday when they were informed that you were awake. You were asleep and her highness asked not to disturb you." Adeline explained.

It wasn’t common for food to be sent as a recovery gift in aristocracy. However, anyone who had spent time with Aristia knew about her love for food.

Even when Aristia didn’t state it, they couldn’t help but notice it. Who wouldn’t?

After all, it wasn’t quite hidden about how she had reacted when they had to leave for the temple without having any food until they came back.

Hence, they also thought that sending her delicacies would help her feel better.

Even though Aristia was speechless, she still wordlessly gathered the delicacies as she left the closet.

Millie followed behind her, her soft paws gracefully padding the floor.

Adeline held the rest in her arms as they left.

She took them back to her bedroom and placed them on the table. She couldn’t eat them now. She still had her training with the Captain.

[Adeline hasn’t said anything about my classes being cancelled, so the classes should still hold.]

She changed into her training outfit and left the room with Millie lying lazily in her arms, heading to the training grounds of the mansion.

Just as she arrived, the Captain also arrived at that moment. His face held the usual blandness, but his eyes looked like there was a storm inside. He couldn’t hide his wonder-filled eyes.

Aristia could guess the reason behind that.

"Good morning, Captain." She greeted as she stopped in front of him.

"Good morning, Princess." Captain Hugh nodded. His gaze inadvertently shifted to Millie in her arms.

Aristia’s eyes followed his gaze down to Millie whose eyes were still closed.

"This is Millie, my..." she began, trailing off.

"I know." Captain Hugh replied, his eyes now flitting up to hers.

[Right. Papa must have told him.] Aristia thought, thinking of how he didn’t seem so surprised or opposed to her bringing an animal to their training.

Meanwhile, Captain Hugh couldn’t describe his emotions.

When he had first been asked to be Aristia’s trainer, he had been unwilling. He had been annoyed at the princess known to be arrogant and bratty suddenly asking to be taking classes clearly meant for boys in the aristocracy, just because she had formed some kind of interest in it. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

To him, it was just a willful request she had made and wouldn’t last long.

However, even though he was unwilling, he had agreed for the sake of his good friend who was also the child’s father.

Even so, he had determined not to treat her differently from how he treated others trained by him, thinking that if she disagreed and threw a tantrum, he would cease to train her.

But he was surprised as not only did the princess not throw a fit, she even agreed with his condition. He had thought that she would soon lose whatever interest she had initially and probably not want to be treated that way, demanding to be treated as a princess, but nothing of that sort happened.

She always tried to improve and never gaze up. She was determined and seemed stubborn. He soon became used to training her and didn’t have much aversion to training her anymore.

He had even begun looking forward to their training together. As his only female student, Hugh thought it was only right to train her to be on par with males her age.

When Wilson had told him through their mental connection with their daemons that his daughter had a daemon, he had almost dropped his glass of water in disbelief.

Of course he had heard she was sick for a few days, but he wasn’t aware of why she suddenly got sick.

Thinking that Wilson was jesting, and wanting to see for himself, he quickly rushed over the following morning. He was stunned to see the creature lying in her arms, confirming Wilson’s words.

He was already impressed with her progress and character, but then was shocked beyond words when the princess manifested aura, and now, she had a daemon. Just what was the princess?!

He cleared his throat and turned to Aristia.

"I see you’ve manifested a daemon. Today, we will not be having our usual training. Instead, I will teach you how to formulate a link with your daemon. After that, we shall resume the class normally." Captain Hugh swept his gaze from the creature in her arms to her.

"Formulate a link?" Aristia tilted her head to one side.

Captain Hugh explained. "You have succeeded in manifesting a daemon, now you have to create a link to be able to communicate with your daemon and build a bond with it."

"How do I do that?" She asked curiously.

[This should be what I want to know. How to communicate with Millie mentally.]

"By breaking the chains blocking you from reaching it." Captain Hugh said. "Once you succeed in doing so, you will be able to build a link with your daemon."

Aristia’s brows furrowed. [Break the chains...? What?! That sounds like some religious hoodoo-voodoo stuff!]

She looked at Captain Hugh with suspicion.

[Wait... Are you sure he’s not secretly in a cult or something?]

Captain Hugh felt uncomfortable. Why was she staring at him that way?

"You... what is it?" He asked, narrowing his eyes.

Aristia shook her head. She decided to put the thought of Hugh belonging to a cult away and ask instead,

"How do I break these chains? And where do I even find the chains?" She asked.

"How you break them is up to you. To free the daemon, you must fight a daemon." Captain Hugh replied.

[Say what now?]

Captain Hugh continued, "You have to feel the spiritual connection between you and your daemon. Only then will you be able to see the chains."

She had so many questions. It felt like the Captain’s words were just riddles.

[But once I ’feel the spiritual connection’, breaking the chains should be easy.]

Just as she had that thought, Captain Hugh’s voice came down on her.

"Once you feel the spiritual connection, you need to succeed in breaking the chains, otherwise, you will die."

[What?]
