Chapter 177: TALE OF THE BLESSED BEASTS

They passed by quite a lot of servants who bowed in greeting as they passed.

It was impossible to tell what they were thinking. They only glanced at Millie before continuing with what they were doing.

Aristia wondered if it didn’t seem strange to them that she had been unconscious for four days and was now with a cat in her arms after waking up when she hadn’t even left the mansion.

[They probably think papa bought it as a recovery gift for me. But what did I expect from these robotic servants anyway?]

They arrived at the dining room. The whole family and Owen were seated at the table.

"Tia is awake." Alaric smiled excitedly. "And Millie’s here too."

"Tia, how are you feeling now?" Catherine asked.

"I’m feeling better," Aristia smiled as she greeted her parents and took her seat, placing Millie on the chair beside her.

The food was served not long after. Adeline also prepared some food for Millie.

A bowl of milk, some fish and chicken, carrot and cheese, just as Aristia had requested.

Adeline placed it on a very short stool on the floor and Millie nimbly jumped down from the chair onto the floor.

A soft pillow cushion was placed in front of her food for her to sit on comfortably.

[It’s truly treatment befitting an animal belonging to royalty.]

The family ate their meal as they watched Millie. None of them could forget the fact that this daemon had changed forms.

Alaric was excited beyond words. He also desired a daemon as every noble boy did, and now, his sister actually had a daemon.

Aristia decided to do some research about daemons. She would ask Wilson, but she would also learn herself.

Plus, she wanted to see if she’d find anything about daemons changing forms. Anything at all.

Throughout the meal, there were discussions about daemons at the table, though it was more like Alaric asking questions and Wilson answering.

After dinner, Aristia headed back to her room. This time, she didn’t carry Millie. The cat daemon trailed after her as they headed to their room.

She entered the room and closed the door behind her after Millie entered.

She picked Millie up and put her on the bed, lightly tapping her feet. She sat on the bed for a few minutes before getting up.

When she got down from the bed, Millie followed after her. Aristia picked up the lit oil lamp from the bedside table and left the room. freёwebnoѵel.com

The former brightly lit corridors were now dim with only a few candles lit here and there. The night was quiet, with only the occasional sound of crickets accompanying the pair of human and daemon.

Not long after, she arrived at the large double doors that led to the library. She opened only one of the doors to a gap just enough to fit her.

After slipping through, she looked around the library at the towering shelves containing numerous books.

"Maybe I should have waited till tomorrow." She muttered.

She had nothing else to do this night and wasn’t feeling sleepy, so she decided to search for answers.

She headed further into the library.

She first started searching the lower shelves her hands could reach. There were so many shelves in the library and she couldn’t possibly search all of them, so she chose a few.

Soon, she was done with the lower shelves her hands could reach, leaving the upper part of the shelves.

"That’s going to be a problem." She looked around for the ladder she had used last time, deciding to use it to reach the books on top.

She found a few books about daemons after searching two shelves. But those books were no bigger than a magazine in pages. They were the length of normal books, though.

[There really isn’t much books about daemons here.]

She stopped at the third shelf, searching the top shelf when she was done with the lower part.

She guessed the time would be midnight by now, meaning she had been searching for three hours.

She had decided to stop her search after searching for a long time when something caught her eyes. A book stuck out from the shelf by a little more than a tip.

She stretched her hand and collected the book.

It had a thick black leather paperback and was a little dusty, yet none of the pages were damaged. There was a faint diagram of different animals that were daemons on the front cover beneath the title. The title seemed to be engraved on the book in curved font; ’Tale Of The Blessed Beasts’.

She couldn’t see the book very clearly because of the dim lighting, however, her possession of aura allowed her to see much more clearly than before.

"Hmm... seems interesting."

She decided to take the book with her, along with the other books about daemons she had found. Anything about daemons, she would take it.

They were a total of five books, with the latest book being the biggest, containing the same number of pages as a normal book.

"We’re done here, Millie. Let’s head back to my room."

Millie lowered her head before looking up.

[I guess she’s saying okay.]

They walked back to her room. Aristia held the small stack of books in one arm, and the oil lamp on the other.

She entered her room, going to place the books on the study desk in her room.

She wasn’t planning on going through the books now. She would do that tomorrow.

She turned around and saw that Milie was looking at her.

[She likes doing that.]

She walked towards the bed and climbed in and under the sheet, and just like she expected, Millie snuggled beside her.

Aristia smiled, her eyes slowly closing.

The next day, she got up early as usual, even before it was very bright outside.

Adeline was already ready with water for taking a bath.

She stood in front of Aristia after preparing the bath.

"Oh, princess Tia, it slipped my mind to tell you," she began. "When you were unconscious, princess’s cousins and friends sent gifts. Princess’s maternal family also sent gifts."

"Oh?" Aristia’s brows shot up. "They did?"

She had been unconscious for three days, even if it wasn’t explicitly stated, word about her being unwell would naturally have made it outside the mansion.

She had actually forgotten about this because of the discovery of her daemon.

"Yes, her royal highness said that you were unwell. Their highnesses the prince and princesses, along with the young master and young misses of the Anton Household, came to visit you. They were the only ones allowed in the room because of Millie." Adeline explained.

In the three days Aristia was unconscious, Alicia Eldridge, the Kiran kids and Wade Oswalt also visited, however, they weren’t allowed in the room with the excuse that Aristia was either being cleaned, or was resting, so that they wouldn’t find out about the existence of Aristia’s daemon.

"Various aristocrat families also sent gifts and letters wishing you good health and quick recovery."

It was customary for aristocracy to send gifts when someone— especially when the person belonged to a high-ranking family or was part of the upper echelons of high society— was unwell. It was even more so when the ill person was a member of the royal family.

These gifts expressed goodwill and concern, whether the givers really felt that way or not, and also showcased the giver’s status and taste, matching with the etiquette and customs of aristocratic society.

Now that news had spread that Aristia was unwell, noble families sent gifts to her as a diplomatic strategy. The gifts were formal and luxurious.

They supposedly reflected the aristocrats’ respect and goodwill towards her and her family during a challenging time.

Aristia didn’t care much about those superficial gifts sent by those aristocrat families who wanted to build a good relationship with her family, and were sending gifts and letters so as not to appear nonchalant at the third princess’s weak state.

But still...

"Where are the gifts?" She hadn’t seen anything.

Adeline smiled, "They are in the storage room."

"I’ll see them after taking a bath." She said.

Even though she didn’t care about the intentions of those sending the gifts, she cared about the gifts themselves.

[They are the gifts sent to me. I have to be appreciative, don’t I? It’s basic courtesy. Since they went through the trouble, I’ll accept it.]

After she provided reasons for herself, Aristia turned to enter the bathroom in peace.

Her gaze landed briefly on the books about daemons lying neatly on her study table before she disappeared inside the bathroom.

After bathing, she left the room and headed for the storage room with Adeline and Millie. There was still time before the training began with Captain Hugh.

Adeline opened the door to the storage room and the next moment, Aristia’s jaws dropped open.
