New World, New Life: I Became A Bigshot In The Ancient World-Chapter 179: DIFFICULTY LEVELS
Chapter 179: DIFFICULTY LEVELS
"Once you feel the spiritual connection, you need to succeed in breaking the chains, otherwise, you will die."
[What?]
Aristia had shock plastered over her face.
"I’ll... die?" She asked, her mouth hanging open.
"Yes," Hugh nodded. "Manifesting a daemon is easier than breaking the chains blocking the link between master and daemon. Many have succeeded in manifesting daemons, but few have actually broken the chains."
The next second, he bent down and looked her in the eyes seriously. "That is why you must succeed. Or... you can decide to not do anything at all. That would leave you with a daemon unable to unleash its potential."
[We’ll also not be able to communicate.] Aristia averted her gaze and looked down at Millie in her arms. She didn’t think it was her imagination that Millie looked restricted.
She met eyes with Hugh and said with certainty. "That’s not going to happen. I’ll break those chains."
"Alright," Captain Hugh straightened up. "I hope you can."
His last words were said only for him to hear.
It would be very unfortunate if Aristia died.
Aristia was silent for a moment. Her eyes moved to the left where she found Owen looking at her, faint emotions swirling in his young eyes, but his expression cool.
She looked back at the captain, holding back a scowl, not at the captain, but at her situation.
[Great. My life’s on the line now. I should have known this wouldn’t be easy. But why make it so hard when it’s already difficult enough to manifest a daemon in the first place?]
It was crazy. Was this world trying to set up difficulty levels?
[Difficulty level one: Manifest Aura. Difficulty level two: Manifest Daemon. Difficulty level three: Unlock chains binding daemon and free daemon. I hope it ends there.]
After the training, Aristia returned to the mansion, feeling a slight headache. Who knew having a daemon wasn’t easy? Not only was it difficult to manifest, but it also involves complex processes.
"Princess, I’ve prepared a bath for you." Adeline’s voice interrupted her thoughts.
Aristia looked up to see Adeline looking at her from the opposite end of the corridor with a small smile on her lips.
Aristia subconsciously narrowed her eyes.
[Why is she smiling? Hasn’t she heard that I might die?]
She followed Adeline back to her room.
While bathing, she couldn’t help but ask.
"Linny?"
"Yes, princess?" Adeline asked, massaging her scalp. The sensation allowed Aristia to relax a bit.
She let out a breath and asked. "Do you know that if I try to free Millie, I might die?"
Adeline’s hands paused for a second before continuing.
"Then don’t, princess."
"Eh?"
"I’m just joking, princess Tia. I know that you won’t die, so I’m not scared." Adeline replied.
[Yeah, she’s not scared. As if she should be. I’m the one about to die!]
But Adeline continued, "My princess is strong. You have aura, and now Millie. You cannot die." Adeline’s determined words at the end sounded a bit crazed to Aristia.
[Almost forgot she’s become obsessed with me.]
But she nodded. "You’re right, Linny." And she would have flipped her hair if it wasn’t wet and soapy. "I’m Aristia. I’m awesome and amazing, and spectacular, and lovely..."
Adeline continued seriously, "And beautiful, and brilliant, and adorable, and kind and intelligent, and benevolent, and—"
"Okay, that’s enough." Aristia stopped her. Then she sighed. "I’m really all of those things. Sigh, it just can’t be helped. Ahem! Like I was saying, I can do this."
"Yes, my princess. You can."
Talking with Adeline made the reality seem less... heavy.
[Adeline’s right. Whether I’ve died in the real world or not, I suddenly came to this world. I can’t die easily. No, I won’t die easily. Plus, I’m like the female lead according to the book, and I haven’t seen any person with female lead aura.]
After bathing, Aristia dressed for breakfast.
Breakfast was the usual, except Millie was now being included in the conversation.
Wilson told Aristia not to worry about breaking the chains. "You’re very young, Tia. Most people don’t even dream of manifesting daemons at your age."
His words were a bit commanding, as if he was indirectly asking her not to try breaking the chains.
Aristia tried hard not to roll her eyes. [It’s not like I know how to break these chains that I can’t even see.]
Catherine nodded proudly, agreeing with her husband. Her daughter, a girl, a five year old girl, had actually manifested a daemon when other young boys her age, not to talk about girls, could even imagine doing so.
She was aware that Aristia could die if she didn’t succeed, but she still felt pride at her daughter’s achievement. After all, her daughter didn’t have to trying freeing Millie now. It didn’t matter if she waited a few months.... or years... or decades.
But Aristia still nodded in reply to Wilson’s words. [Yes, I’m young. But... I don’t plan on waiting a long time. I’ll do whatever I can to break these chains.]
Wilson saw the look in her eyes and narrowed his eyes.
Before he could ask her to not even think about it, she put down the fork in her hand and stood up.
"Mama, Papa, it’s time for my classes. I don’t want to be late." She threw in a quick curtsey and quickly moved towards the door.
She could hear Wilson’s disapproving words, but she just quickened her steps.
Moments later, she was out the door.
She closed the door behind her, ignoring that guards who just glanced at her before keeping their gazes forward again.
Aristia treated them like they were invisible, acting like she was alone. It was easy to pull off with the guards’ low presence.
She looked down at Millie who had followed her out of the dining room.
A sigh escaped her lips. "It’s time for my classes. You’ll have to stay in my room."
Millie wouldn’t agree to stay with anyone else. The only solution Aristia had was to let her stay in her room with Adeline.
Millie was indeed very smart. She knew Aristia’s family, Owen and Adeline. Aristia wouldn’t doubt she would be able to recognize their servants.
Millie sat obediently on the bed, her sparkling eyes calm. It was like she was telling Aristia that she’d wait for her.
Aristia couldn’t resist rubbing her head before leaving for her history class.
Back in the dining room, the family had just got up.
Owen glanced at Wilson and Catherine before turning to Alaric.
"Prince Alaric, I’ll take you to your classes."
"Okay," Alaric nodded.
The two walked out of the dining room together.
Wilson and Catherine watched their retreating backs before Catherine turned to Wilson.
"I don’t think Tia plans to wait." Her voice was half amused, half concerned.
Wilson’s face darkened before he sighed. He pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head.
"If I could, I’d say she shouldn’t try to. Freeing a daemon is not easy."
Catherine nodded. She didn’t know what it entailed, but Wilson’s expression was serious enough to know that it was serious.
"But I can see that Tia’s bent on doing this." Wilson added.
"Even though she knows it could kill her." Catherine said with knitted brows.
However, the next moment, her lips curved into a smile.
"But I know she can do it. She’s manifested aura and a daemon. There’s nothing left."
Wilson nodded, his eyes shining with mirth.
Catherine remembered something.
"What did brother in-law say?" She asked curiously, looking at Wilson.
"Fedor? He asked us to find time to come to the palace."
"I see..." Catherine nodded.
She stood on her toes and pressed a kiss to Wilson’s right cheek.
"I’m attending a tea party at the Anton Mansion."
Wilson was aware of this. "Mm."
Catherine nodded and turned to leave.
The next second, her hand was grabbed and she was pulled back.
"Ah~" the startled gasp she had let out was swallowed back when she felt Wilson’s lips on hers. His left hand slowly found its way to her hair, while his right hand traced her waist.
When Wilson pulled away, her hand flew to her lips. She looked at her husband in disbelief. He had actually bitten her!
Her lips were red and slightly swollen, and her silky, black lustrous hair disheveled.
Wilson had a smirk on his face, satisfied with his work. He chuckled and took out a golden pocket watch.
"Enjoy your tea party, Cathy."
Catherine glared at his back as he disappeared behind the doors, her delicate palm still covering her lips.
Behind her palm, her barely visible lips held a small smile.
She swept her hair back, trying to make it look less disheveled.
Feeling that she was looking more presentable, she left the dining room, returning to her room to prepare for the tea party her sister in-law was hosting.
As she left the room, servants immediately entered to clean the room.
