Chapter 150: 150 Break Out
Chapter 150: 150 Break Out
Chen Xu lay on the ground, peering through night-vision goggles. He saw large beads of sweat forming on her forehead. With every step she took, a few drops fell, landing on his face and by his mouth, igniting a warm surge in his heart.
“Stop pulling. Help me up onto that trailer,” he finally spoke, prompting her to halt her strenuous effort.
With her strength, dragging him, who weighed over 130 pounds, wouldn’t get them far before she exhausted herself.
Hearing this, Bai Jinxuan let go of his hand, picked up a flashlight from the ground, and shone it to the side to locate the front of the vehicle. Meanwhile, Chen Xu had already flipped over, alternately supporting himself on the ground with his arms, crawling forward.
She wanted to help but didn’t know where to assist.
“I can manage on my own.”
Chen Xu halted and uttered those words. Quickly, he crawled to the front of the vehicle, where Bai Jinxuan had already opened the door.
He grabbed the foothold, pulled himself up, and reached out to the edge of the door, saying to Bai Jinxuan, “Support my foot.”
She carefully lifted his foot, and with a push from Chen Xu, he was already seated.
Over the past six months, he had gone for morning runs almost every day. Later, he added other exercises like pushups and pull-ups. Not only had his endurance improved, but his strength had increased significantly. In the previous dream, he couldn’t have performed such actions.
Bai Jinxuan climbed into the vehicle from the other side, only to realize it was the driver’s seat. She felt helpless and said, “I…I don’t know how to drive.”
Noticing that the indicator lights on the vehicle were still on, Chen Xu said, “This should be an electric vehicle. Look at your feet; are there two pedals?”
“Yes, there are two.”
“Then it should work like a car, the left being the brake and the right the accelerator. Try pressing down.”
In reality, Chen Xu was guessing; he had never driven this type of electric vehicle before.
Bai Jinxuan, looking rather nervous, said, “Okay, I’m pressing it.” Saying so, she gently pressed the right pedal, and the vehicle jolted forward, startling her into releasing it quickly.
Clang.
The back section of the trailer hit the corner, making a loud noise.
“It’s fine, just drive like this,” Chen Xu, tightly gripping the handrails, encouraged her. “Control the direction, and don’t go too fast at first. You can do it.”
“I can do it.”
Bai Jinxuan took a few deep breaths, psyching herself up, and pressed the accelerator again. This time, she pressed harder, and the vehicle shot forward. Prepared this time, she controlled the steering wheel, avoiding a collision with the wall.
Clang.
This time, the last section of the trailer hit harder, making a loud noise and nearly tipping over. The wheels ran over the body of a robot, getting stuck and emitting a harsh grinding noise, sparking flames.
“What was that noise?” Bai Jinxuan, highly tense, heard the strange sound and quickly asked.
“It’s nothing, just focus on driving. As long as we don’t hit anything, don’t worry about it.”
A few seconds later, only the sound of a bang was heard as the robot under the wheels was smashed in half, and the trailer stabilized.
Thud, thud, thud…
Behind them, the ominous pounding on the ground resumed.
Chen Xu looked calm, picking up an electromagnetic pulse gun to check. The gun had a charge for twenty shots; he had already used three, leaving seventeen.
In his pocket, he carried a spare battery. However, with the robots’ speed, he doubted he’d have a chance to replace it.
After checking the gun, he looked at Bai Jinxuan, who was driving.
When a girl tells him she’s willing to die with him, he feels that the current difficulties and dangers seemed insignificant.
He looked back, and through the night-vision goggles, he could faintly see the silhouette of robots approaching.
His gaze remained unchanged, but he suddenly felt a bit hungry. He pulled out a chocolate bar from his pocket, tore off the wrapper, popped it into his mouth, and chewed slowly.
Thud, thud, thud…
The sound of the robots landing grew closer.
“What’s that sound this time?” Bai Jinxuan, sensing the looming danger, became extremely anxious and unconsciously sped up.
“Just focus on driving.”
Chen Xu spoke, turning around, and aimed the gun at the fastest running robot which had the appearance of a middle-aged woman with a smile on her face. Originally, it should have seemed kind, but in such a scene, it only sent chills down one’s spine.
They were much faster than the tram, and in the blink of an eye, they had caught up.
Chen Xu judged that they had entered firing range and, without hesitation, pulled the trigger. Amid a faint sound of electrical current, the auntie-like robot lunged into mid-air and fell to the ground.
“There are sixteen bullets left.”
He silently counted in his heart as more and more robots appeared in the corridor—men, women, children, and elderly, all smiling. The scene was as bizarre as it was unsettling.
He fired another shot, and another robot fell.
“Fifteen bullets.”
Then, without pausing, he continued firing, with each shot bringing down another robot.
“Fourteen, thirteen… three, two, one.”
When only one bullet was left, two robots had already jumped onto the last carriage, and behind them, five or six more were continuously pursuing.
“It’s a pity.”
He felt somewhat regretful as he fired the last bullet, striking the robot at the forefront. He quickly detached the power source. At that moment, the robots had already jumped onto the nearest carriage.
Suddenly, the tram violently turned, and Chen Xu, caught off guard, crashed into the tram door, dropping the gun.
As the robots landed on the carriage, unstable, one fell out. It reacted very quickly, grabbing the edge of the carriage, not falling off.

Clang—
At that moment, with the centrifugal force, the long carriage fiercely collided with the corridor wall. It was caught in the middle; amidst a piercing scraping noise, its hand was directly torn off, and its body was rolled under the carriage.
“Ah—” Bai Jinxuan suddenly let out a sharp scream.
Squeal—
Amid an ear-piercing screeching of brakes, the tram collided with a figure and then hit a large metal door.
An airbag popped out, pressing against Bai Jinxuan’s face, leaving her a bit dazed. Several seconds later, as the airbag deflated, she looked up to see a woman’s face at the window, continuously scratching at the glass.
She jumped, almost screaming again, but swiftly noticed that its body was stuck between the tram and the metal door; only its head and one arm could move.
“Chen Xu.”
At that moment, she recalled Chen Xu beside her, looked over, and saw him lying sideways on the deflated airbag, struggling to get up. She hurriedly reached out to help him, asking, “Are you okay?”
“Gun.” Chen Xu pushed her hand away, searched on the ground for a bit, picked up the gun, took out the spare power source from his pocket, installed it, and sat back down in the seat holding onto the handle. Looking back, he saw a door had appeared in the rear corridor at some point.
Bang bang…
Through the door, they could hear the sound of something banging on the outside.
He was somewhat incredulous, and suddenly, light shone from above.
“What’s going on?” Bai Jinxuan also looked surprised, turning her head to look around.
Boom, a loud noise followed as the metal door the tram’s front had hit slowly rose, and after a grating noise, the waist of the robot trapped in the front was directly torn apart.
Its upper body could still move, one hand clinging beneath the window, mouth opening and closing, making strange noises. The scene looked somewhat comical, but neither of them could laugh.
Chen Xu raised the gun to his head, aiming inside.
“Young man, don’t shoot, or we’ll all die.” A weak voice came from inside.
Someone?
Chen Xu was somewhat puzzled. Were there actually survivors in this underground base?
Beside him, Bai Jinxuan appeared delighted. After so many days, she had only seen Chen Xu; sometimes she even felt as if everyone else in the world might have already perished. Finding another living person now, her joy was indescribable.
As the metal door rose over a meter high, Chen Xu could also clearly see the person, an old man sitting in a wheelchair, his face withered and lips cracked, appearing to be in dire straits.
“I didn’t expect you to really make it here,” the old man said, displaying a rigid smile, his voice hoarse and exceedingly weak, “Welcome to XX military camp.”
