My Ex-husband Asked Me to Remarry Him Every Day-Chapter 569 - 561 Otherwise, Why Would You Only Think of Me
Watching the smile on her face.
It did seem so indeed.
Xie Baola held up a finger to her cheek and beamed at him, "Let’s do it again!"
She had found the joy in playing games.
Victory would ignite one’s fighting spirit.
Once you win, you’d want to press your advantage.
The more you win, the greater the happiness.
"Uh-huh."
Chen Jiayan responded again.
He glanced secretly at Xie Baola, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
When Xie Baola turned her head toward him, Chen Jiayan’s smile had been cleared from his face.
It was as if the previous smile had been an illusion.
The two played games, and the afternoon passed quickly.
"I’m hungry."
Xie Baola tossed aside the game controller, sank back into the sofa, and slumped down.
She turned her head to Chen Jiayan, who looked at the time and said, "I’ll go make dinner."
It was about time too.
Xie Baola sat up, "But I just saw that there seems to be not much in the fridge, let’s go buy some groceries."
Chen Jiayan asked, "Steak with pasta, how does that sound?"
Chen Jiayan remembered there were two steaks frozen in the freezer.
A smile spread across Xie Baola’s face, followed by a snap of her fingers, "Okay then! Steak and pasta it is! I’ve been craving it, and we haven’t finished that bottle of wine I brought last time, shall we continue drinking it?"
Chen Jiayan told her, "Just sit and wait, I’ll head to the kitchen."
"Uh-huh~"
Xie Baola nodded.
Chen Jiayan walked toward the kitchen.
Xie Baola opened up some unfinished snacks.
This time it was just frying steaks and boiling pasta, much simpler than cooking a full meal.
Chen Jiayan set the plates and placed two plates on the dining table, then took out the preserved wine and wine glasses.
Chen Jiayan looked at the food on the table and had a moment of realization.
He looked up at Xie Baola sitting on the sofa.
She was playing on her phone while eating snacks, her hair cascading behind her, her figure slender and elegant, beautiful just by her silhouette.
Their interaction didn’t feel like that of good friends but more like lovers.
Chen Jiayan hadn’t even realized when he had allowed Xie Baola to enter his world.
It had become a habit for him now.
He even felt—
Like he hoped she could always be in this world.
Chen Jiayan appeared slightly absent-minded.
Xie Baola looked up and saw Chen Jiayan standing motionless in front of the dining table, wondering what he was thinking.
Xie Baola stood up and walked towards Chen Jiayan.
Chen Jiayan watched her approaching figure and snapped back to reality.
"Is dinner ready?"
"Yes."
Chen Jiayan replied, turned back to the kitchen to turn off the range hood, washed his hands, and then came out.
Xie Baola was taking pictures.
Chen Jiayan didn’t disturb her.
After taking the pictures, Xie Baola put away her phone.
She pulled out a chair and sat down.
"I think you’re just all-around capable, really capable."
Facing Xie Baola’s flattery, Chen Jiayan remained cool, showing little emotion.
"Cooking a homestyle meal is simple."
"Homestyle food is simple, you are not."
Chen Jiayan, "..."
Xie Baola, supporting her chin and smiling, asked, "Tell me, what can’t you do?"
Chen Jiayan poured wine into two wine glasses.
"Eat."
He seemed uninterested in continuing the topic.
Xie Baola pouted, picked up the knife and fork, paused, put them down, and moved the whole plate in front of Chen Jiayan.
Chen Jiayan looked at her, puzzled.
"Cut it for me."
Before Chen Jiayan could speak, Xie Baola went on, "We are best friends, aren’t we?"
It seemed they couldn’t escape the best friends trope.
Chen Jiayan felt somewhat helpless but still went ahead and cut the steak into small pieces for her.
Xie Baola held her face, her gaze fixed on his handsome hands, then moved to his face.
He really touched all the right points for her.
Xie Baola had never liked a man so much.
It felt like just looking at him made her heart full of joy.
She thought she might be poisoned, and increasingly so, the incurable kind.
After Chen Jiayan finished cutting, he placed the plate in front of her, "Eat."
"Do you want me to cut yours?"
"No need, eat yours."
"Alright then."
Xie Baola smiled.
She took a sip from her wine glass, then tasted the steak Chen Jiayan had prepared.
The meat was tender and aromatic.
Xie Baola looked appreciative, "Really good. If you weren’t running a company, you could be a chef."
Chen Jiayan gave a light laugh at her words.
Xie Baola, perplexed, "What are you laughing at?"
Chen Jiayan shook his head, "It’s nothing."
After dinner.
It was still Chen Jiayan who took care of cleaning up.
Xie Baola just lay dead after eating.
Watching Chen Jiayan’s clear-cut figure, she suddenly felt that this kind of life was really nice.
It wasn’t turbulent, but gentle and continuous, carrying a natural coziness. Being with him felt so tranquil and beautiful.
She really wanted to date him.
But...
Chen Jiayan had still not agreed.
Thinking this, Xie Baola walked towards him in the kitchen.
The sound of the faucet drowned out Xie Baola’s footsteps until a pair of slim arms wrapped around his waist.
Chen Jiayan reacted slowly.
He stiffened for a moment, looking down at the hands around his waist.
The fingers were slender and pretty, adorned with light-colored nail polish.
"Xie Baola."
His hands were still wet.
Chen Jiayan didn’t touch her.
Xie Baola’s laughter came from behind him, "Chen Jiayan, you’re really fit, do you have abs?"
Xie Baola didn’t make any bold moves, but her words were filled with teasing.
"Xie Baola."
Chen Jiayan called her name again.
A vein throbbed at his temple.
Xie Baola, her voice wrapped in laughter, said, "You don’t need to keep calling me, I can hear you."
"...Let go!"
Xie Baola released her hands, but she didn’t move away, instead stepping around to stand in front of Chen Jiayan, her back against the sink.
The two faced each other.
She looked at him with a half-smirk.
"You used snacks as an excuse to call me over, and made lunch and dinner for me, could it really be that you were just bored?"
Xie Baola’s expression was lazy, her eyes as sharp as ever.
Their posture looked very intimate.
It was more like Chen Jiayan was enveloping Xie Baola in his arms.
Chen Jiayan looked at the still-running faucet, then glanced at Xie Baola’s face, "Can we talk after I finish here?"
"Nope."
Xie Baola turned off the faucet and faced Chen Jiayan squarely.
"Let’s talk now."
She was quite assertive.
Chen Jiayan took one last look at her, went to wash his hands, and dried them with a paper towel.
Xie Baola watched his actions.
"What’s the reason, really?"
She pressed on.
Chen Jiayan nodded, "Boredom could be said as a reason."
Of course, this answer wasn’t satisfying to Xie Baola.
"You think of me when you’re bored..." Xie Baola drew out her words, chuckled, and clicked her tongue twice, "That must mean I hold a pretty important place in your heart, right? Otherwise, why would you only think of me."
