Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking-Chapter 907: Karmic Reckoning (III)
--
Nicholas and Patricia, whether they’d admit or not, knew the Bug Empress more intimately than they’d ever want to.
It’s kind of hard not to, considering how much grief they had to endure coming from her. They knew her just as much as they knew them; that’s why battles between them had always been personal.
However, to the surprise of both Nicholas and Patricia, they discovered that this was actually the first time they laid their eyes on her youngest.
They knew that he existed. The Bug Empress had let it slip only once upon a time and never again. They’ve never seen him before, never heard of him again, never could’ve imagined what he’d look like. They even guessed that her youngest child was the deadliest of her real children, the true evil that must be put down alongside her. Why else would she ferociously guard his existence otherwise?
But, looking at her so-called ’most evil spawn,’ Nicholas and Patricia would freely admit that they were wrong.
The first time they saw him, which was just a few hours ago by the way, they thought he was just a stray bug that happened to be in the wrong place and the wrong time. A child that happened to accompany the Bug Empress’ family, one that shouldn’t be under their protection but was now that everything around them was falling apart.
Nick and Pat almost didn’t want to display their animosity in front of this tiny thing because they could sense his innocence.
In their eyes, the Bug Empress herself, her husband, and her two other children were blanketed with thick human blood that it formed a black cocoon—which represents how many human lives they’ve taken. The least of them all was the Bug Empress’ husband, and the darkest was, obviously, the Bug Empress herself.
Cain was an exception. The little one was so innocent that his soul was practically glowing white. He was untouched by any foul karma, nearly blinding Patricia’s senses with how pure it was.
The little one’s soul was probably the purest and most innocent soul she had ever laid her eyes on, and it was truly difficult for her to see the child as one of those insane and murderous bugs.
Before the Bug Empress was freed, Nick and Pat had the idea to save this child. It was an unsaid agreement between them; they don’t have to discuss it because both of them could see it.
If they killed this little one, this incredibly innocent and pure soul, they themselves would or might suffer the ire of the Supreme Will. It didn’t matter anymore that this child was a bug; an innocent soul like this one deserved all the mercy, love, and kindness the world could offer, including them as Primal Origin Lifeforms.
So, imagine their surprise to hear this one calling the bug empress ’Mama.’
How? How could a creature so foul, so bitter, so unrepentant, and so vile like her give birth to such an innocent, kind, and pure child? When did this even happen?
As they watched as the Bug Empress coddled the innocent child in her bosom, shielding him from their confused and puzzled gazes, Patricia sent a voice transmission to Nick.
’Nick, the little one is an anomaly.’
’I can see that,’ Nick replied with an obvious tone.
’No! I meant that negatively,’ Patricia supplied. ’The Supreme Will left a bounty on him. This little guy is an anomaly of time. Observe closely.’
Nick was mildly surprised, but he did as he was told and began reading the history of the child by gazing through the sands of time.
Nothing indicated that both of them were now observing the child more thoroughly. There were no signs, no flashing light, nothing obvious at all.
But both of them could see just how anomalous Cain’s existence was.
The Supreme Will had each child cursed because of the Bug Empress’ perversion of natural order. Her actions have provoked the ire of the Supreme Will, and because of that, she and her family have to suffer the punishment.
For the Bug Empress, the doors leading to the Primal Origin Lifeform become permanently closed to her, and regardless of how she cheats, she will never be able to pass through.
Her husband, Anuman, was cursed with silence; he’d never have a voice again, and nothing could cure him or dispel this curse. Pelle was cursed with volatile anger, and Maricel had her fertility cursed.
Cain...his was the worst...still, growth was his curse. He will never grow up physically, mentally, or spiritually. It doesn’t matter how much the Bug Empress spends on longevity-extending resources or how long Cain’s natural lifespan was; so long as he lives, he will never grow up.
To say that both Nick and Pat were surprised to find out about this would be an understatement. Could the Supreme Will curse such an innocent soul?
Their query was answered by the Supreme Will itself, who whispered into their minds.
As it turned out, it’s because of the Bug Empress, again...
Cain was in the middle of being reincarnated. The Supreme Will itself had chosen him to become a ’chosen son’ in his next life and was in the middle of preparing him for this when the Bug Empress’ ritual ripped his soul out of the Supreme Will’s grasp.
That was, obviously, bad because the Supreme Will had already given some blessings to Cain’s soul, and those incomplete blessings were being fused to the new body that the Bug Empress prepared for the ressurection of her youngest child.
The Supreme Will already greatly disliked the woman. She meddles too much and is too bitter and too unwilling to accept defeat.
Annoyed by this, he cursed the child to die early so that his soul could return and carry on to its original plan.
But the Supreme Will underestimated the lengths to which the Bug Empress would go to ensure that her son would never be taken away from her. Even if it means continuing to live in this miserable state.
Truthfully, the Supreme Will didn’t want to harm the child either. The Supreme Will clearly liked the child more than others. Alas, the blasted ritual that the bug empress did was causing some real imbalance to the primitive universe.
The fact that Cain’s soul wasn’t supposed to be where it should, especially since the Supreme Will was in the middle of preparing him for his next great adventure when the Bug Empress suddenly stole him back, was causing some real problems in the fabrics of reality and was affecting the future.
If this problem persists, it would spell more trouble for everyone.
That’s why the Supreme Will had to be cruel. It couldn’t truly influence much, and the Bug Empress was fiercely protective of Cain. Not just her, the entire bug race loved the kid and would willingly die in his stead, which seriously impeded the Supreme Will’s plans.
But even this couldn’t hasten Cain’s death. So, some extreme measures had to be applied.
It’s for this reason that Nick and Patricia found it easier for them to gain the acknowledgement of Origin Laws. The Supreme Will gave them a hand, and now it’s cashing out the favor.
’Bring him back to me. He needs to answer to his destiny.’
That’s what the Supreme Will wants. And it’s not taking a no for an answer. If Nick and Pat failed to deliver, the temperamental Supreme Will might just do something drastic this time.
Realizing this, Nick and Pat looked at each other in dismay.
"What do we do, Nick? The Supreme Will wants the little one?" Patricia made the mistake of asking this out loud, which sent the Bug Empress hysterical.
"NO! NO! NOT CAIN! NOT MY YOUNGEST! I WILL NOT HAND HIM OVER TO THAT FOUL SUPREME WILL! IT WILL NEVER HAVE HIM!" 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Nick sighed and shot Patricia an annoyed look. Patricia had, at least, the decency to look apologetic about her blunder.
With another sigh, Nick looked at the shaking and enraged Bug Empress and said:
"Cain, was it? Well, the whole reason why he’s cursed was because of your actions. The Supreme Will liked the little one and had plans for him, but your blasphemous resurrection ritual stole him while the Supreme Will was planning his next life. That caused some problems and will continue doing so the longer he remains alive."
"I DON’T CARE! THE SUPREME WILL CAN CHOKE ON ITS OWN SPIT, AND I WOULDN’T GIVE A FLYING FUCK ABOUT IT! THAT BLASTED AND INTERFERING THING HAS STOLEN FROM ME ENOUGH TIMES! NEVER AGAIN! NEVER!"
The Bug Empress was not hearing it. She wasn’t willing to surrender her youngest to the Supreme Will. Her hysteria was making the rest of her family nervous, but they too were unwilling to surrender their loveable Cain to the whims of the Supreme Will.
Nick and Pat looked at each other and sensed the trouble here. Really, the Bug Empress won’t budge. But the Supreme Will was getting impatient.
That’s when an idea struck Patricia, and she hurriedly sent a voice transmission to Nick...
