Chapter 41: Family Dinner (3)

Long Tian waited for them, although he was a bit annoyed that Meng Lingxue had left him hanging here.

After ten minutes, he heard footsteps and turned to see them all walking down the stairs.

The old man, Meng Lingxue’s grandfather, arranged their marriage with his own grandfather.

Meng Wuchen.

He was in his early 70s.

Meng Lingxue held his hand as she led him down the stairs, with the rest of the family following behind.

He didn’t know much, but from their attitude, he could tell their relationship.

The old man’s eyes roamed across the living room until they landed on Long Tian.

A smile spread across his face as he hurried his steps.

Long Tian saw this and quickly moved to meet the old man.

Meanwhile, the other family members were watching Long Tian closely, especially Meng Lingxue’s parents.

A young man in his early forties with a wife of a similar age.

They discussed quietly until the old man heard Long Tian was nearby. He jumped off the bed, eager to go meet him.

Seeing the old man’s sudden change in attitude, everyone was surprised.

They followed, curious about what he had or his background that made him so happy.

When they looked at him, Long Tian appeared quite ordinary.

They watched as he walked toward the old man, chatting as if they were old friends.

"This is my first son, Meng Chai, with his wives and his two sons," the old man began, introducing his family to Long Tian.

"Meng Chai, this is Long Tian; he’s going to be part of our family from now on. You should take care of him as one."

Long Tian looked at the family he was about to join, smiled, and said, "Pleasure meeting you, Uncle Chai."

He extended his hand for a handshake, even though Meng Chai looked annoyed; he had no choice but to shake under the old man’s gaze.

Meng Wuchen introduced the rest of the family, and Long Tian finally understood their family tree.

The old man had three sons.

He first introduced Meng Chai.

The second son, Meng Hai, had a single child, a son.

The third son, Meng Yu, was Meng Lingxue’s father.

The old man had four grandchildren in total.

He decided not to pass his inheritance to his sons but to his grandchildren. And even Long Tian could see how much the old man doted on Meng Lingxue.

Meng Lingxue didn’t disappoint either, with her impressive reputation in the business world at such a young age.

They walked towards the dining room. Long Tian glanced at the dishes and the furniture in the dining room.

They weren’t cheap; each would be worth at least 10,000 yuan.

The old man was the first to take his seat. He sat at the top of the dining table, where the head of a family sits.

"Meng Lingxue, sit here." The old man pointed to his left side.

Everyone was surprised because the old man always allowed Meng Lingxue to sit on his right side.

But this made them happy, and Meng Chai smiled. He thought the old man was going to call him, as he was the one who always sat on the left side as the first son.

"Long Tian, come sit here," the old man said, pointing to his right.

His words were like a slap to Meng Chai, who had already stood up, expecting his name to be called.

A flash of surprise appeared in Meng Lingxue’s eyes before she quickly hid it.

Everyone was surprised by the old man’s move.

Long Tian saw the change in everyone and realized that sitting there must be very important.

He wanted to speak, but the old man pulled him to sit down.

"If you treat me like family, then there’s no need to reject me," the old man said.

Long Tian felt a warm feeling in his heart at this. He sat down without saying anything.

The old man smiled, then waved for dinner to be served.

Meanwhile, Long Tian could feel some intense gazes on him, but he pretended not to notice.

"So, did little Lingxue give you the money I asked her to bring?" the old man asked Long Tian while waiting for the food.

Everyone became silent; even Long Tian was shocked and confused.

"Grandpa, don’t you believe me? I gave it to him as soon as you told me to," Meng Lingxue said with a softer tone than usual.

She spoke more gently than when addressing others.

Long Tian looked at the old man, who was smiling at him.

He had thought Meng Lingxue gave him the money out of her own free will, but now it seemed the old man had told her to do it.

He shook his head, wondering how he could think so.

His impression of Meng Lingxue had changed.

When the others heard this, they snorted inwardly. As they suspected, based on their investigations, Long Tian wasn’t very wealthy when he married Meng Lingxue.

They had thought Meng Lingxue was the one who gave him the money, but it turned out it was the old man’s order.

To them, Long Tian had been reduced to a country bumpkin, even though they were confused about how he managed to gain the old man’s favor.

But they weren’t going to keep quiet about it.

It wasn’t long before dinner was served, with various dishes on the table. Long Tian’s stomach growled, making him feel embarrassed.

He realized he hadn’t eaten anything since morning and had been focused on cultivation. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

Almost everyone at the table looked at him mockingly.

The old man just smiled and told the chefs to serve Long Tian first.

But Long Tian refused, insisting they should serve the old man first, or he wouldn’t eat at all.

The old man had no choice but to be served first before they brought out Long Tian’s food.

After this, the others’ food began to be served.

They were angry at this but had no option but to hold it in while looking for a chance to reduce Long Tian’s impression in the old man’s eyes.

"Meng Lingxue, I heard there was a problem two days ago... Yes, our son-in-law was arrested. Hope there’s no problem; if there is, Uncle is here to help you solve it." Meng Chai said in a worried tone.

Everywhere became silent.

Long Tian stopped eating; he never expected Meng Chai to be this cunning.

It might seem that he was worried about their situation, but from the actions of Meng Lingxue that day, Long Tian was sure that she didn’t want the old man to know about it.

He glanced at her and saw that her face had turned icy.

He turned to the old man and saw that he was looking at him with a worried expression.

He chuckled and replied, "There’s no problem; it had all been solved."

"Oh, really?" Meng Chai questioned.

"Yes." It was Meng Lingxue who replied this time.

Even though they said this, the old man was still worried as he was unaware of this.

He turned to Long Tian and asked, "What caused the arrest?"

Meng Chai was baffled as this wasn’t the words he expected to come out of the old man.

Everyone knows how much the old man hates all things related to police forces or the army.

He had warned them not to do anything that would warrant them being arrested.

Even when that happened, they would be punished severely by the old man.

But the old man was still worried about Long Tian, showing no signs of anger.

"It was due to misinformation. They thought I was the culprit for something, so they arrested me as the prime suspect. After an in-depth investigation, it turned out there was a mistake." Long Tian summarized what happened.

The old man nodded at his words, "Be careful in whatever you do." He admonished.

Long Tian could see that the old man didn’t believe his words entirely, but he was relieved that no harm was done to him.

Meanwhile, Meng Chai’s expression turned ugly when he saw that the old man didn’t act according to what he thought.

When they were almost done eating, most things they discussed were about the family and the company, which Long Tian wasn’t aware of so he kept on eating.

"I have two important announcements to make." The old man’s words made everyone perk their ears up.

"The first one, you should all know. Long Tian is getting married to Meng Lingxue, hereby joining our Meng Family. As for marriage formalities, we will discuss that."

The old man emphasized this.

They all nodded. Each had their own means of information. Even Meng Lingxue’s parents knew that their daughter had been married to someone.

But knowing it was the work of the old man, they didn’t try anything waiting for this dinner to arrive.

"Secondly, I have chosen the successor of my properties and everything. My successor is going to be....." The old man said, turning to Long Tian.

Everyone saw this and had a bad feeling. They hoped it was not what they thought.

".... Long Tian."

These two words were like thunder in everyone’s mind.
