Murim's Weakest Princess-Chapter 145: Extended Vision
Chapter 145: Extended Vision
"Oi!" a gruff voice nudged at Anji’s consciousness.
The floating sensation she felt told Anji she was asleep. It had been a while since she entered her dreamscape. However, instead of feeling thrilled to see the golden dragon again, Anji groaned. She had a long day and wanted to rest.
"You’re going to miss something really interesting if you don’t answer me," Grandpa Jin huffed. He hated being ignored.
Slightly curious about the interesting thing the golden dragon spoke about, Anji weighed her options. The golden dragon did not lie. He had no reason to. However, it had also been a while since Anji took a break from training.
"Aren’t you curious about this place? It’s incredibly huge, and you can explore it more quickly using your extended vision instead. Will you sleep your opportunity away?"
Extended vision... it was the training she was doing recently with Grandpa Jin to strengthen her Heavenly Eyes. Normally, Anji could only use it to see a person’s aura. However, the golden dragon rolled his eyes when Anji thought she had already mastered it by controlling its activation at will.
According to the dragon, a master of the Heavenly Eyes can see two worlds at once. Moreover, the master of the Heavenly Eyes can be in a thousand places while standing in the same spot. Anji had a long way to go, so they were training her to look without opening her eyes.
At first, it was difficult. Anji could not even see past her closed eyelids. It took them almost half a year for Anji to see past her closed eyelids. However, the rest was about extending its reach once she could do that.
"Oooh! What’s that? I think I see Researcher Yang punishing the assistants who bullied you earlier. The man looks so sad. He’s actually packing his bags to leave the compound. But where are they taking the woman?"
Fidgeting with interest, Anji wondered if she should sacrifice her rest to train with the golden dragon. Spying on others was not a good thing. However, if she happened to see some things while training, it was merely coincidental. Right?
Caving into her curiosity, Anji finally opened her eyes to the dreamscape. The golden dragon looked rather smug, twirling his whisker with a claw.
"Took you long enough," he smirked. "Are you ready to go? She’s being taken away to a different building."
Grinning, Anji nodded. However, she had to make preparations first.
Connecting her energy from her body to form threads that spread out like a web, Anji slowly pushed the qi outside and used the sensory feedback to tell her about the world outside. Slowly, she merged with the energy threads and formed her second sight.
Grandpa Jin watched carefully and timed his chosen contractor. She was slowly improving, and the time it took her to create her astral self was becoming shorter. Previously, Anji would take a whole night to tap into the soul’s energy and accumulate it in her core. Now, Anji can complete the formation of her astral body in less than an hour. Although it was far from a complete astral body, they should be able to achieve the perfect astral form in a few more years of training.
Feeling ready, Anji took the plunge and dove into her new sight, trying to control the movement of her sight with her will. It was fairly difficult at first but more manageable now after practice.
"I see the room outside," Anji informed Grandpa Jin. "It’s very dark. I’ll head outside first."
Going ahead, Anji let the golden dragon follow behind her as she cruised along to test the limits of her range. When she first manifested her second sight, the limit was five steps away from her body. Seeing her sleeping face was also an awkward experience. The golden dragon would sometimes tease her, reminding Anji about her drooling face while she slept.
Tonight, Anji did not drool. If anything, she looked exhausted and slept like a log, snoring softly.
"How far do you think you can go?" asked the golden dragon. "You have about four hours until you need to wake up."
Pushing her extended vision past the cottage, Anji frowned. She did not have a lot of stamina to cover the distance of the entire sect. When she was training in the Celestial Dragon Sect, she could only manage to get to the main entrance of the sect from her room. Compared to that, the Mystical Qilin Sect was several dozen times bigger than her home. If she measured that distance, it was possible that Anji would only cover the western district, excluding the further rows of the research quarters on the higher part of the mountain.
"I don’t know if I can reach Researcher Yang’s lab," Anji admitted. "This place is much bigger than home."
Agreeing, the golden dragon told Anji to travel in one direction as far as she could so they could measure her new limit.
Anji’s previous record for the measuring test was fifteen minutes of non-stop travel. The speed mattered just as much as the reach. Anji’s control over her extended vision was still shaky at best. Sometimes, she would lose focus and lose her connection instantly. Reconnecting her second sight was harder after the initial disconnection. When that happened, Grandpa Jin would call it a night and tell Anji to rest. The Heavenly Eyes could become exhausted if she focused too hard.
Tonight, Anji picked the direction towards the researchers’ labs and pushed her second sight. It was probably the best way to measure how big the Western District was compared to the Celestial Dragon Sect. Assuming the Eastern District was just as big as the Western District, her shifu’s ancient sect had to be at least eight times bigger than her father’s sect.
To think that she would one day inherit this massive sect... Anji had no idea if she would do well. Her sister was impressive for not faltering even once as the successor to the Celestial Dragon Sect. The sense of responsibility Zhao Ruiting was willing to bear on behalf of their parents must be very heavy. Now, Anji could finally understand a fraction of that feeling. The weight of the world should never fall on a single person’s shoulder. However, sometimes, it does.
For now, Anji looked forward and continued marching towards a neverending sight of research quarters. Up until the fourth row, Anji found it manageable. From above, Anji studied the layout of these research labs and realised how silly she was to be lost in it during the day. Despite the cluttered layout, it was rather systematic, just like everything else in this place.
Eventually, Anji stopped at the edge of the seventh row, unable to go any further. Unlike regular vision, where the images became blurry in a distance, second sight vision worked differently. Everything was crystal clear no matter how far away they were until the vision stopped. Then, it became a sea of darkness cut off from that point. It didn’t matter if the vision saw half a tree, the other half the extended vision did not cover would simply become a wall of shadows.
Tonight, Grandpa Jin noted down Anji’s new record. Although there was not any significant improvement in her reach, her speed was faster. They would have to continue this training until Anji could travel freely within the Mystical Qilin Sect’s barrier. After that, they would work on breaking past the illusion barrier around these mountains until Anji can travel back to the Celestial Dragon Sect using her second sight.
There was a long road ahead, but the night was still young. Grinning, the golden dragon told Anji to trace her steps back. They were going to find juicy gossip tonight.
